Looks like another Thai built yacht, maybe by the same company that built the boat which sank in Phuket

Either that or a Thai crew so hence the fire suppression equipment was poorly  maintained or else when the fire alarm sounded they all ran away.

Blazing ‘Lady D’ super yacht cast adrift to burn away from Phuket shore

Local officers of Paklok subdistrict in Phuket were notified at 8.30am on Wednesday of a fire aboard a luxury yacht parked at Grand Marina.

Responding firefighters discovered the “Lady D” was out of reach, as it had parked 500 metres beyond the furthest extremity of the port. Officers had to order the yacht crew to cut its ropes in order to prevent the fire from traveling down the rope and spreading to nearby ships.

Punya Sompoarat, governor of Paklok, said that the fire involved a super yacht. The owner was nowhere nearby, while a small crew was left monitoring the vessel.

According to the report, the fire started at the far end of the Lady D. The yacht crew had tried to extinguish it using fire extinguishers but the flames had rapidly spread.

No injuries or deaths have yet been reported.

probably near to retirement, old vessels like this become very expensive to maintain

I wonder how much it was insured for

My thoughts exactly.  Reminds me of the old RMS Elizabeth which was bought by a HK businessman to be converted into the floating Seawise University; sadly one evening, whilst under renovation, fire broke out simultaneously in several different locations when there was nobody on board!

What was is about it's appearance that gave you that impression?  Couldn't have been bizarre, unwarranted speculation by any chance, could it?

Or, perhaps, as it was US built, British owned, Canadian captained and had sailed from Malaysia it didn't have a Thai crew.

Yacht, Fort Lauderdale, Florida

I'd bet that it was more of a superyacht than you'll ever step foot on, never mind own.

"As it was an ex US coastguard vessel  and an ex rig supply vessel".

Are you suggesting that ex-US coastguard vessels and ex-rig supply vessels can't be British-owned, Canadian-captained or sail from Malaysia?

Well of course something you can not quote , how inconvenient. But hey just tell me the the date of the Bangkok post when it was published as the article I read in it gave no such details but perhaps I missed one.  Many thanks.

No not at all. I am just asking for the links to confirm the facts about your statement as it is a Caymans flagged vessel.

Mega yacht LADY D, IMO 7644219, GT 1285, length 56 m, built 1976, flag Cayman Islands, passengers up to 24, crew 16. Since Apr 2019 listed for sale, price tag 5 mil euro.
