  1. Past hour
  2. I'd like to see some serious investigative reporting that shows all of the peasants. plebs, commoners average "elderly" incarcerated Thai citizens who are at this exact moment currently being treated exactly as billionaire, connected, frail near-death's door Tottering Tony in his "deteriorating health" was treated - ie, removed from Gen-Pop and placed in a penthouse conditions in a "prison" hospital. And given the current pictures with Srettha during Songkran, Tottering Tony seems to be the picture of a healthy and vibrant recovery. Buddha Be Praised. 🙏🙏🙏 Sadhu sadhu sadhu Instead what will the peasants. plebs, commoners be fed? 🐂💩 Mushroom food.
  3. So how bad was it, and when? 30 years ago Bangkok was bad, but it showed significant improvement over the years only in the last decade has air quality started to deteriorate again. To my recollection air quality has never been this poor.
  4. You need to be a little careful on the wording. There was a time when you could deposit the marriage certificate with the General Registry Office(GRO) through the British Embassy in Bangkok. I did it in 2008. I should point out it was a deposit rather than a registration, as you say the UK will recognise a legal marriage in Thailand. I think the embassy stopped handling GRO deposits in 2012 but not sure if you can still deal with the GRO direct. In reality not a great deal to be gained but you did get an annotated copy of the deposit with the GRO seal which over the years has been very useful in visa applications for my wife.
  5. It looks as though the landscape is changing from, "no need to file because there's no penalty", to, there is a fine for not filing plus not doing so exposes you to back audits for the past decade.
  6. I haven't got the air con on and I've been reading Winnie the Pooh in Thai to my step grandchildren, it gives one some strange ideas.
  7. I'm not mixing them up. I mentioned content spinning, I mentioned plagiarism, I mentioned unnatural AI text. They are separate issues.
  8. We eat >95% of our meals at home (GF is an excellent cook) & my grocery bill is approx. 30,000 THB PM (No alcohol included) for the 2 of us, mainly due to my foibles when it comes to eating (I don't eat Chicken or Fish which are cheap here & will only eat high quality meat so no Thai beef & only eat lean pork which is approx. 360 THB per KG) + my love of Cheese, Butter & Korean/Japanese spices doesn't help, but also because she loves Chicken, Fish & Seafood so will often cook 2 completely different meals. NB. I don't dispute that you can eat out or at home very cheaply in Thailand but it's not something that I would want to do, & would rather give up other things (e.g. rent a cheaper condo, socialise, go on holiday less etc...) before I went down that road & turned vegetarian (Cos I still wouldn't eating Chicken, Fish or cheap Thai meats).
  9. I think I read somewhere that password sharing was only being blocked on TVs and not on computers, tablets and phones. Can't find that article now, however.
  10. I think you can trust your Thai wife to not get ripped off. She knows the culture, after all. I'm sure she knows the appropriate cost of her son's wedding.
  11. G-man is the man, we are staying. Here is a bit of factual information: China 🇨🇳 is sitting on 10 million of un-needed vehicle production capacity. Expect more discounts and price wars on all vehicle types. The next few years will be golden times to buy a new car 🚗. New York Times (Free): https://archive.ph/4jCiQ
  12. there used to be a sony service centre at the Suk and S pattaya road junction, not sure if it's still there but they'd be able to help.....maybe?
  13. The Iranian response for the Israeli bombing of its "Diplomatic Premises" was launched and recorded "Universally" in real time was to enact an enabling responses, this was followed by a salvo of cruise and ballistic missiles being hours later, testing the concept of the "Iron Dome" for protection. Iron dome was breached upon test, regardless of any inclusiveness from both the Saudi and Jordanian interventions employed.. Israel and its unconditional backer actually lost face regarding this foray.
  14. 15. Some of the people who do have more and don't find a need to brag about it are called humble, modest, frugal and a quiet achiever.
  16. I don't do anything like that, it would upset the dogs and I've always regarded the movements as a little ridiculous, especially if the wife starts moving as well.
  17. So instead of "I do" he said "Neigh"? ("Nay" as apposed to "aye" - for those not familiar with Scottish terminology, or House of Commons parlance!))
  18. The same reason there was no national outrage a few weeks back for the 10 year old girl who was shot over a land dispute.
  19. 7-Eleven Thailand only accept True Money app and credit cards (not debit cards) over a certain amount, i think it's 300 Baht. I've never tried Google Money in Thailand as I have iOS (not supported).
  20. so Lou. He can allow someone on Ko Panghan to sell ecstasy pills legally?? Really!
  21. Sometimes the TRD does send out blank forms to people who filed in the previous year but not always. I file some years and not others, based on my circumstances but they stopped sending me forms as soon as I got an online ID.
  22. Penny Wong, Australia's Minister for Foreign Affairs, announced the appointment of Kirsten Fletcher as the new Consul-General for Phuket and surrounding areas. Fletcher is known for her dedication to sustainability and tourism. Her appointment came after her recent participation in a local event in Phuket focused on reducing plastic waste, in which the Australian Ambassador to Thailand, Angela Macdonald, also attended. Minister Wong emphasised the strong ties between Australia and Thailand across various sectors, including defence, law enforcement, education, and the green economy. Australia sees Thailand as its 11th most important trading partner, with an estimated trade value of about US$30.8 billion (or roughly 740 billion baht) during 2022 to 2023. Thailand also plays a significant role in Australia's international student population, with about 21,000 Thai students currently studying in Australia. The Phuket Consulate-General, which opened in August 2017, reflects the strength of both countries' relationship and the growing number of Australians living and visiting Phuket. Fletcher, a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, brings a lot of experience to her new role. Wong thanked Matt Barclay, the former Consul-General, for his services and contributions since 2019. In related news, to promote easy travel and business ties, both Thailand and Australia are considering a reciprocal visa-free agreement. This plan came to light during a meeting between Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and David Hurley, the Governor-General of Australia, on February 14. 23. In 'developed' nations, there are also various types and styles of crossings... thus, whilst lack of consistence could be used as an excuse I doubt that it would make any difference as the underlying cultural trait of 'do anything but slow or stop' and 'only slow & stop as a last resort' will not change' until a cultural shift towards road safety itself and pedestrian safety is 'forced'.... and I mean forced because its ingrained in the Thai culture not to be considerate of anyone outside of the primary *circles of influence then I expect little will change... At least until huge fines and effective policing is enforced at every crossing. *the circules of influence have been discussed before. 1) - Inner Circle - Family and closest friends and loved ones - Thais are extremely giving 2) - Second Circle - Acquaintances and colleagues - Thais are polite and somewhat considerate 3) - Outer Circle - Everyone else - Complete indifference, don't care as if they don't exist This explains why Thai's can be so kind and polite face to face as we enter the 'second circle' yet can be treated with complete indifference and disregard when in the outer circulce - i.e. such as crossing a road and someone driving and it does not enter their consciousness to be careful about us. Perhaps this method of crossing the road (below) would force us into the second circle of drivers who'd otherwise not see us.
