  5. Man who carried gas cans into NY cathedral charged with attempted arson By Gabriella Borter FILE PHOTO: People attend Christmas Eve Midnight Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York, December 25, 2013. REUTERS/Carlo Allegri/File Photo NEW YORK (Reuters) - A 37-year-old man who entered New York's famed St. Patrick's Cathedral carrying two full gasoline cans, lighter fluid and lighters was charged with attempted arson on Thursday, police said. Wednesday's incident occurred two days after a massive fire severely damaged the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, causing global shock and sorrow. That blaze was most likely the result of an accident though a major investigation is under way. A New York City Police Department official said Marc Lamparello, a New Jersey resident, was charged with second-degree attempted arson, second-degree reckless endangerment and trespassing after he entered the Roman Catholic cathedral in midtown Manhattan just before 8 p.m. on Wednesday and was confronted by a security guard. It was not immediately clear if Lamparello had a lawyer. As Lamparello turned to leave the cathedral, police said, gasoline spilled from the cans he was carrying, causing cathedral staff to alert police officers stationed outside the church. Lamparello told police he was taking a short cut through the cathedral to get to Madison Avenue from Fifth Avenue to return to his van, which had run out of gasoline, according to John Miller, deputy commissioner of intelligence and counterterrorism for the NYPD. When police checked the vehicle they found it was not out of fuel, at which point the man was arrested, Miller said. "An individual walking into an iconic location like St. Patrick's Cathedral carrying over four gallons of gasoline, two bottles of lighter fluid and lighters, is something we would have grave concern over," Miller told reporters on Wednesday. The main entrance of the neo-Gothic cathedral, which has stood in the heart of Manhattan since 1879, is on Fifth Avenue. The cathedral faces Madison Avenue on its east side. Lamparello has been a faculty member in the philosophy department at the City University of New York, but his name was no longer listed on the university's website on Thursday afternoon. He had booked a one-way plane ticket to Rome for Thursday, The New York Times and other local media reported. Lamparello was charged earlier this week in Essex County, New Jersey, with resisting arrest, interfering with the administration of law, and trespassing after he "refused to leave" the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark on Monday at closing time, the county sheriff said. Lamparello's alleged arson attempt at St. Patrick's comes only a few weeks after a man was arrested and charged with arson and hate crimes for burning down three predominantly African-American churches in Louisiana between March 26 and April 4. St. Patrick's is considered one of the most important symbols of the Catholic Church in the United States. 6. Why as the fixed deposit they only have to look at 2 numbers. Seems simpler as there are no deposits or withdrawals.
  7. That's bad. Pence is probably going to be even more worse president than Trump is. Pence is a known religious nutter. Trump only loves himself, which is far better for the world.
  8. Maybe the trouble arises from complaints about the decrease in income from visa agents.
  9. Never found her remotely attractive. Her Netflix movie isn't bad, tho....but I wonder if she really directed it.
  10. Is there some reason you would need ever to be in the same room with your tax preparer? Because, if not, you can just find one on the internet in the US, where they are after all abundant, and provide documents by email. If you need to have a discussion there is always Skype or any number of competing programs. Likely to be cheaper, as well. Many of them will advertise an expertise in expat taxes. You won't owe Thai taxes unless you have income in Thailand. Be sure to take the steps necessary to avoid liability for state taxes, if any.
  11. Yes, it is hot, but this weather, sunny with sometimes a shower, is quite normal for this time of year.
  12. While I agree, from a Thai bureaucratic perspective, that must be an oxymoron.
  13. Pence would serve the remainder. You don't seem to realize Trump said that in a supposedly private moment two years ago.
  14. That is indeed a new change we were notified about when the changes came into force.
  15. So much confusion on this thread! There are four ethanol/gasoline blends available in Thailand: E85 = 85% Ethanol, 15% Gasoline E20 = 20% Ethanol, 80% Gasoline E10 = 10% Ethanol, 90% Gasoline Gasoline = 0% Ethanol, 100% Gasoline E85 is cheapest and contains least energy. Gasoline is most expensive and not commonly available. The ethanol content also effects the RON rating (octane content). For simplification we'll say E20 and E85 are only available in RON95. Most of what is sold is E10 and advertised as 91 or 95. These numbers refer to the octane content (note - not percentages, in other countries 101 and 103 (and others) are available). I'm not sure why they don't phase out 91 completely as the price is virtually the same as 95 and anything that can run on 91 can run on 95 (with vice-versa not true, my '04 Ford Laser only runs on 95). Diesel will be in the news shortly with them increasing the biofuel content from B7 to B10 - 7% to 10%.
  16. I cant ever remember the A/C on 24/7 for this long think the rain cant penetrate the smog in CM and when it comes the following humidity will boil you on the spot
  17. I would just use the savings account unless you perceive maintaining that one at 800,000 for 3 months then 400,000 minimum etc as possible problem.
  18. Well, good. This era is about to be over. Will president Pence be able to hold the office until 2020 or will there be a new elections before that?
  19. Given the effect such a position has with allied nations. as a non US national, I am entitled to my opinion of the worthiness or otherwise of who holds the title "President on the USA". To repeat, IMO, trump is unfit to represent the Office of the President of the USA. The Mueller report more than adequately justifies such an opinion. Barr is also unfit to hold the Office of AG.
  20. If you are refering to President Donald Trump, I doubt he needs help in this area as the USA does not border Thailand. Your weak attempt at political humour misses the mark of a connection between fact, timing and fantasy.
