  6. The legal team of Police Commissioner-General Police General Torsak Sukvimol is gearing up to take down a high-profile celebrity lawyer who pointed his finger at the police chief in the bribery case. Lawyer Suteepong Chevitcharoen, flanked by Atchariya Ruangrattanapong, chairman of the Crime Victims Assistance Club and a key member of Torsak’s legal defence squad, made the announcement. The target of their legal onslaught is lawyer Sittra Biabungkerd, whose accusations have sent shockwaves through the corridors of power. Atchariya declared that justice would be served tomorrow afternoon, firing the first shot in what promises to be a legal battle of epic proportions. The feud erupted after Sittra’s damning press conference, where he dropped bombshell allegations of a vast bribery network implicating senior police officials. While he stopped short of naming Torsak directly, he left little to the imagination, hinting at a shadowy figure with the national police chief’s initials in Thai at the heart of the scandal, reported The Nation. Sittra’s claims of clandestine cash transfers, murky bank dealings, and illicit temple donations painted a picture of institutional corruption reaching staggering proportions. Yet, Torsak remains defiant, steadfastly denying any wrongdoing and vowing to clear his name. ORIGINAL STORY: Thai lawyer uncovers police-linked bribery network A recent revelation has shaken the Thai law enforcement scene as a lawyer uncovered a gang, allegedly linked to the police, involved in an extensive bribery racket. The racket reportedly amasses over 100 million baht each month through illicit kickbacks. Sittra Biabungkerd, serving as secretary to the People’s Lawyers Foundation, brought this issue to light in a press conference held yesterday, March 26. Sittra, armed with substantial evidence including bank transfer slips, money trails, and video footage, claimed the existence of a bribery network with a deep-rooted police connection. According to Sittra, no less than three police officers are suspected of being involved with this notorious gang. He further alleged that several police units had been accepting kickbacks from various illegal businesses. These businesses range from illicit online gambling sites to unlawful loan sharks. Sittra went on to detail the operation of the gang, stating that they would gather bribes from all over the country and deposit them into multiple bank accounts. Notably, some of these accounts reportedly belong to a senior police officer’s relatives. The monthly kickbacks are presumed to exceed 100 million baht (US$3 million). In his address, Sittra affirmed that his exposé of the alleged bribery was not influenced by personal gain or hidden motives. He stated, “I only want to tell the public about the matter despite knowing that I may be in danger.” Further in the press conference, Sittra had a phone conversation with Police Major General Jaroonkiat Pankaew, deputy commander of the Central Investigation Bureau. Sittra disclosed his intent to lodge a police complaint against the individuals implicated in the gang by tomorrow, March 28, reported Bangkok Post. Despite the potential risks, Sittra remains committed to bringing this corruption to light, promising a riveting development in Thai law enforcement integrity. by Puntid Tantivangphaisal Photo courtesy of The Nation Source: The Thaiger 2024-03-29 - Discover how Cigna Insurance can protect you with a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment. 8. "Who said God answers prayers?" Christians seem to think so. Are they still posting ads in newspapers saying "Thank you to St. Jude for prayers answered"? I am an agnostic, which means I simply don't know. IMO that's smarter than Christians and atheists, who claim complete certainty. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jude_the_Apostle#Patronage

  12. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin advocated for the legalisation of casinos to combat the shadowy underworld economy in Thailand. PM Srettha outlined his vision for a new law permitting entertainment complexes housing legal casinos, aiming to drag illicit activities into the light and bolster national revenue streams. “We have to bring the grey [underground] economy into the light to allow us to control it, both for security and suitability. And we can collect taxes properly. I agree with this and believe it’s an important issue.” The Bangkok-born Thai prime minister articulated the potential of legal casinos to dissolve the nation’s pervasive illegal gambling dens while concurrently replenishing the treasury. “If they can go to legal casinos, why will people continue breaking the law? Gamblers can try their luck at legal casinos.” Addressing opposition, the 62 year old PM asserted the necessity of parliamentary deliberation, urging lawmakers to heed the voice of the populace. He called for an end to the hypocrisy surrounding gambling, advocating for stringent regulations to oversee its practice. In his dual role as finance minister, the Thai prime minister acknowledged the prolonged timeline for implementing the proposed law, acknowledging the ongoing battle against illegal gambling. Labour Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn echoed the sentiment, foreseeing a surge in job opportunities with the establishment of legal casinos within entertainment complexes across Thailand, reported The Nation. Phiphat anticipated the creation of up to 50,000 new jobs, underscoring the potential economic windfall and the prospect of quelling illegal gambling through legitimate means. ORIGINAL STORY: Legalising casinos to boost economy: Thailand House of Representatives forms committee A 60-member committee to probe into the potential launch of entertainment hubs, inclusive of casinos, has been established by Thailand’s House of Representatives. This move seeks to rectify the issue of underground casinos and invigorate the nation‘s financial state, as suggested in a proposal put forth by members of parliament from diverse parties. The endorsers of the proposal encompassed Thoedchart Chaipong, a Pheu Thai MP for Chiang Rai; Non Paisanlimcharoenkij, a Move Forward Party MP for Nonthaburi; and Chatchawal Kong-udom, a United Thai Nation Party list-MP. The process of establishing a committee to explore this matter was debated upon in a House session presided over by House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha. Rangsiman Rome, a Move Forward Party list MP, conveyed his agreement, whilst cautioning that a parallel working group had also been set up by the preceding House of Representatives to scrutinise this issue. The opposition MP disclosed that he was alerted about a Tak province-based firm, implicated in human trafficking and illicit human organs trading, that managed to send a representative to present its perspective before the committee, seemingly with harmful intent. Rangsiman emphasised the requirement for preventative steps against ill-intent influence. He expressed his belief that legalising casinos could lead to the downfall of casinos operating at the borders, thereby redirecting the money of Thai gamblers towards the government revenue for national development. United Thai Nation Party list-MP Chatchawal underscored the financial loss resulting from Thai citizens travelling to neighbouring countries for casino gambling. Chatchawal revealed that he had initially proposed the legalisation of casinos 30 years ago, but faced opposition, reported Bangkok Post. He suggested situating at least five entertainment complexes with casinos strategically across the country — one each in the North, the South, the East, the West and the Central Plains. He affirmed that this would provide local employment opportunities, eliminating the need for some Thais to seek employment overseas. by Puntid Tantivangphaisal Photo courtesy of The Nation Source: The Thaiger 2024-03-29 - Discover how Cigna Insurance can protect you with a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment. 13. Not being critical, just curious. How do they call each other? Do they both say "my husband" referring to their spouse, or is one identified as "the wife"? What is written in their documents? What if two men "have a child", how would the baby call his two dads? I have to say that "his husband" does sound wrong in English. Perhaps languages will have to adapt to these new situations.

  16. Inquiries from Malaysian tourists have flooded hotel operators, eager for the inside scoop on Thailand’s immigration policy regarding the exemption of arrival cards for travellers from Malaysia. Songchai Mungprasitthichai, chairman of the Songkhla Tourism Promotion Association, revealed that Malaysians are particularly curious about potential extensions beyond the current expiry date of April 30. Travellers from all corners of the globe entering Thailand via the Sadao checkpoint in Songkhla have been enjoying the luxury of bypassing the Immigration Bureau’s Tor Mor 6 card requirement, part of a government initiative to lure more tourists to the scenic south. Hat Yai stands as the prime destination for Malaysians exploring southern Thailand, with hotels anticipating a surge in visitors gearing up to celebrate Songkran, the Thai New Year, next month. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin hinted earlier this month at plans to expand the policy to additional border crossings between Thailand and Malaysia, sparking further speculation, reported Bangkok Post. However, ambiguity shrouds whether the current exemption at the Sadao checkpoint will persist beyond April 30, leaving tourists on the edge of their seats. In related news, to ease the journey home for migrant workers from Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar, Labour Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn announced yesterday that they will be exempted from re-entry fees if they wish to return to their home countries to celebrate Songkran between April 1 and May 15. The decision, greenlit by the policy committee on the management of alien workers, aims to facilitate the annual tradition of Songkran celebrations for these workers and their families. In other news, anticipation builds as the Songkran festival in Chiang Mai, set to span 10 days, is projected to pull in millions of tourists, raking in an estimated 20 billion baht in revenue. This year’s observance of the festival, scheduled from April 7 to 17, is particularly special as it not only seeks to uphold the local Lanna culture but also marks the city’s 728th anniversary, shared Deputy Governor of Chiang Mai, Weerapong Rithrod, and the city’s Mayor, Assanee Buranupakorn. by Mitch Connor Photo courtesy of Bangkok Post Source: The THaiger 2024-03-29 - Discover how Cigna Insurance can protect you with a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment. 20. Air India sacked a pilot caught flying under the influence of alcohol following a positive alcohol test conducted after operating a flight from Phuket to India. The captain, who flew a Phuket-Delhi route last week, underwent a breathalyser (BA) test upon arrival in Delhi. In a bold move, Air India is set to lodge a First Information Report (FIR) against the errant pilot, firmly establishing their stance on the matter. “While Air India’s official statement is pending, sources within the airline have expressed zero tolerance towards such misconduct. “We have taken very strong action, not only terminating his service but also planning to file an FIR as operating a flight under the influence of alcohol is a criminal act. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been informed.” This incident sheds light on the vigilance required within the aviation industry. Unlike domestic flights where alcohol is strictly prohibited, international flights often offer alcoholic beverages, necessitating post-flight BA tests for flight crew. Notably, statistics from the initial half of 2023 reveal a concerning trend, with 33 pilots and 97 cabin crew members failing BA tests, reported The Economic Times. Consequences for failing such tests are severe, with a three-month license suspension for first-time offenders, escalating to a three-year suspension for subsequent violations, and license revocation upon a third offence. In related news, come March 31, Thai Airways (THAI) will operate flights to Perth in Western Australia and Colombo in Sri Lanka. In addition, THAI’s first flight to Southwest India’s Cochin Airport will take off on April 2. Chief Commercial Officer, Korakot Chatasingha promised a daily dose of connectivity between Bangkok and Perth, complementing the airline’s existing routes to Melbourne and Sydney. In other news, India and Thailand penned a pivotal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on air services. The bilateral MoU will further enhance the capacities of airlines operating between the two countries, aiming at strengthening people-to-people and economic ties. by Puntid Tantivangphaisal Photo courtesy of The Economic Times Source: The Thaiger 2024-03-29 - Discover how Cigna Insurance can protect you with a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment. 21. US Dollar undermines the US Dollar, doesn't need any help, just like every fiat currency on the planet. In addition fiat is and has been used in more criminal activities than crypto ever has. The propaganda that Bitcoin is a threat to the US Dollar is true but not because of criminal activity, but because of its decentralised nature and requires no permission to use. Can't have the PLEBS in control of their own wealth......That's the threat.
