  2. I neither speak nor read nor write Thai but as I was intrigued by the question I asked Google Gemini and I don't know if its answer is of any help: " There isn't a single perfect term in Thai that captures the full meaning of "shelf wear." However, here are a few options depending on the specific nuance you want to convey: ร่องรอยจากการหยิบวาง (róng rói dtaak yahk hip waang): This translates literally to "marks/traces from picking up and placing down." This emphasizes the wear caused by repeated handling. ความเสียหายจากการจัดเก็บ (kwaamเสียหาย dtaak yahk jad kéep): This translates to "damage from storage." This focuses on the damage caused by improper storage conditions. รอยสึกหรอ (rói seuk ró): This is a general term for wear and tear. While not specific to shelves, it can be understood in that context. สภาพ (sa-paap): This translates to "condition." You could use it with a descriptive phrase, for example: สภาพเสื่อมโทรมจากการจัดเก็บ (sa-paap seu tom dtaak yahk jad kéep) - "condition deteriorated from storage."
  3. Songkran called a world class tourist event the other day, hundreds die and are maimed every year, drunken driving the main cause, I stay well away from it, they cannot control it and I feel sorry for the people who lose loved ones because of this senseless event.
  4. I knew it wouldn't be too long before the tag team leader in chief showed up! Re: Guesses vs Facts: read the introduction, read the caveats, read what the Simple Guide says it is....nowhere does it say everything is fact, grow up for gods sake. I quote: "What this guide will provide is, A STARTING POINT for readers to manage their own tax affairs, and it will also provide links to many of the answers for those with simple tax affairs, especially the average pensioner". Re: Separate Thread: We every comfortably had our own thread until your mob barged in and destroyed it with long rambling posts about Australian tax, we've already had this discussion, you know what you did. You do not get to dictate who posts what where in this this forum. The fact that you want to organise things in a way that suits you is disturbing.

This is probably true. He was apparently a perfectly healthy person with no known illnesses. But his death has highlighted the problem of Koh Tao, which now has a reputation and the local police do nothing to alleviate this.

  11. Definitely agree that there is a ridiculous amount of complaining that goes on in this forum. It gets downright toxic far too often. In this case, Thais being arrested for what could essentially amount to attempted murder, shouldn't be anything in particular to be touting as something so special that someone actually got arrested. I think people equate things like an idiot kicking a lady in the back and leaving a bit of a red mark (which could easily be left by a slight scuffing of the fabric against the skin, especially a lady's softer more sensitive skin) and having the aggressor's face and business paraded all over the place as worthy of complaining to a case against when thugs like these may get arrested, but the town will likely hardly care and they won't have their places of work or businesses publicized and there won't be protests in the streets to have them put away for a good long time, even though they actually put lives in danger over a situation similar to the Swiss guy - someone wanted someone to move. The Thais endangered human lives. The Swiss guy committed a simple assault with hardly any danger more than maybe the possibility of breaking a fingernail and an ego. The outcome between the two are hardly comparable for the level of the results among the public and media. Of course, that's just one example. But I think that's the gist of why so many make harshly negative remarks on this sort of thing. So, in this case, I would say it is more justified. Whereas very often, I agree that the complaining and racist sorts of remarks get ridiculous. Your rant is justified on many threads in this forum, but in this thread, I think you more or less went the same route as those complainers.

  13. Jomtien, Chonburi — Jomtien Beach in Chonburi saw fewer tourists than expected during the recent Songkran holiday. Most businesses blame the ongoing one-way traffic system, which confuses visitors. Beachside vendor Mrs. Poolsawat Singhsawasdi, 55, complained to local media that tourist numbers between April 12nd-16th were relatively normal, without the usual large crowds witnessed during the normal Songkran holiday. Mrs. Poolsawat believed that the decline might be due to Pattaya’s recent traffic changes, including the implementation of one-way system at Pattaya Beach Road. 14. For those, like me, who did not know what shelf wear means: "Shelf wear is a form of damage that can develop on items removed and replaced on a shelf. It can also refer to damage caused by rough handling by staff members and customers. Shelf wear can sometimes be caused by improper storage in the stock room or on the shelves." 18. Local police announced they have successfully identified the suspect in the murder of a 27 year old Thai woman in London but added that the killer may have fled abroad. The dead body of 27 year old Thai woman Kamonnan “Angela” Thiamphanit was found at her luxury mansion on Stanhope Place, on Bayswater Road, near Hyde Park on April 8. She reportedly bore multiple stab wounds all over her body. A neighbour told local media that she heard a high-pitched scream before Kamonnan’s body was discovered. However, she did not go out to investigate because she did not think she could help. Kamonnan worked in real estate but further details about her career were not disclosed. She rented the mansion through Airbnb but there was no report of whether she lived there alone or with others. Local police believe Kamonnan was acquainted with the murderer because no signs of theft or forced entry were visible at the scene. Moreover, the front door of Kamonnan’s mention was equipped with a camera allowing her to screen the visitors, revealed Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell. “We believe that the person who attacked her was known to her. This isn’t a stranger attack but at some point after April 6 at 6.15am she was attacked in the address and sustained several stab injuries.” The Daily Mail reported on April 16 that police already had the name of the main suspect in Kamonnan’s case but officers believe the person has fled England. Foxwell added that she did not think it would be possible to arrest the suspect within the next two weeks. She added that she would consult with the Crown Prosecution Service about whether or not they had enough evidence to extradite the suspect from outside the UK. According to the Daily Mail, Foxwell and the relevant authorities planned to return Kamonnan’s body to her family in Thailand for a funeral ceremony. ORIGINAL STORY: Delayed police response to Thai woman’s brutal murder in London The brutal stabbing murder of a 27 year old Thai woman, in her residence in Westminster, London, has stirred up public fire against the local police over their delayed response to distress calls from her friends. The unfortunate incident unfolded in a home located on Stanhope Place, near Hyde Park, valued at around US$4 million. The victim Kamonnan Angela Thiamphanit’s lifeless body was discovered on Monday morning. Her neighbours reported hearing screams prior to the gruesome discovery, according to British media. The search for the culprit is still ongoing. The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed last night that the deceased was indeed a Thai national who had been stabbed. The ministry further revealed that the Thai embassy in London had reached out to the victim’s family and was working closely with the police on the case. As reported by the Daily Mail, law enforcement authorities were alerted by a worried friend of Kamonnan on Sunday evening. Despite this, they failed to arrive at the scene until 13 hours later. The Metropolitan Police confirmed receiving two calls from the same individual at 7.05pm and 9.34pm respectively, as reported by the BBC. Multiple wounds The police force revealed in a statement that the woman was initially graded as a medium-risk missing person prior to the discovery of her body. Officers visited the property on Stanhope Place at 8.30am on Monday. They were confronted with the grim sight of a woman who had suffered multiple stab wounds upon forcibly entering the premises. An autopsy report revealed sharp force trauma as the cause of death. Before Kamonnan’s body was found, neighbours reported hearing two high-pitched screams, followed by an eerie silence. Given the lack of forced entry and the presence of a video entry system at the front door, it is speculated that Kamonnan might have been acquainted with her attacker. The Metropolitan Police has referred the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to the criticism received for their handling of the investigation. Detective Chief Inspector Adam Clifton made a public appeal for information. “I would appeal to anyone who has information that could assist us, no matter how insignificant you think that may be, to come forward and speak to us. Kamonnan’s family and friends have been devastated by this murder and we must ensure whoever is responsible is held to account.” Neighbours revealed that Kamonnan lived in the £4-million (182 million baht) property situated in the posh neighbourhood of the City of Westminster, just a stone’s throw away from Hyde Park. The property, which served as the Ethiopian Embassy until four years ago, has since been converted into several Airbnb units. Kamonnan’s specific rental spaces within the property remain unknown. The three-storey, five-bedroom terraced home originating from the 1820s is rented, according to a local hotel owner, who was oblivious to the identity of the tenant, reported Bangkok Post. by Petch Petpailin Photo via MET POLICE Source: The Thaiger 2024-04-19 Get our Daily Newsletter - Click HERE to subscribe
  19. I would like to get some short sleeved shirts and slacks made up. Also a lightweight blazer. Does anyone have any ideas of a tailor with good quality and resonable prices? I think many of the tailors use the same factory/factories so i dont want to pay over the odds for a tailor at expensice location. Thanks

  23. "Phi and Shi then got out of their SUV and asked Rattaphum and their friends to move." That equates to confronting? Drunk and foolhardy or arrogant? Not sure how you come to that conclusion. How about they needed to get somewhere and they saw that the car ahead of them could move, but maybe its occupants were playing water fights with people on the street instead? Who knows.... The two foreigners may have been perfectly polite. They may not have been polite. We don't know. But either way, being asked to move politely or rudely is not a reason for attempting to kill someone. Stabbing is a hell of a lot more serious than a many people seem to think. You imply that they had a reason to try to kill these guys. That's pretty extreme. They may have had an excuse, but nothing remotely close to a reason that anyone can possibly reasonably conclude from this article.
