Took my gal to Malaysia - she lover eating Roti Canai for breakfast and all the Indian Khanom to try...Guess thats why I like her she'll try anything although every now and then she throws a I want eat Kow Neow mood. Most of all she liked the Makan Padang restaurants in Indonesia - although the Indo's couldn't understand why she added some many chilli's !

Think its just getting them over that theres more to the world than Thailand...much like many British people...

We went to a very expensive restaurant here in Sydney xmas eve.

I think the waiter got very offended when she requested chillies for their signature steamed fish dish....they said they didnt have any!!!

I could see the chefs all peering out to have a look at this philistine.

Been to more than a dozen thai restaurants where we live around innner cbd sydney and none are up to scratch either!!!

Last time I dialled in Indian ....some lovely butter chicken and a hot vindaloo all the windows were opened and mutterings of ki men etc etc were heard.

Wonders why I keep her at home cooking.

I found the Indian restaurant at Rembrandt too noisy and expensive.

I loved this place called "Malaysia Auntie" but it seems that it has disapeared. It was the best indian food i ever had - especially the naans :o

It has been replaced by another Indian restaurant that I am going to try very soon.

Feedback within a week!

I forgot to say that the restaurant I am talking about is situated on sukhumvit soi 8.

20m into the soi and first left.

Strange thread - Western Food forum, Indian cuisine, order curries from England, try Senior Rico Mex.

I like Taj Mahal at the end of Suriwong - food is as good as Rembrant's (who'd have guessed that Rembrant serves Indian food?).

Khun Yak,

A bit confused as to whether you are looking for naan which is a type of Indian flatbread

or

cheese which is known as paneer in hindi.

If it is naan that you are looking for then there are loads of places specialising in naan bread around the Sukhumvit soi 3 area.

best Indian (only my opinion of course):

India Hut, Surawong Rd (Lucknow/Nawabi-style cuisine)

Dosa King, Soi 19 Sukhumbit (Gujarati-style)

Komala's, Soi 20 (Madras-style) http://www.komalasweb.com/

Royal India, Chakkaphet Rd (northern Indian/Punjabi; don't confuse with lesser branch on Khao San)

The Rang Mahal at the Rembrandt Hotel is good, but the resto is very fancy and the food rather pricey. It's also strictly north Indian/Punjabi, which for me is the least interesting regional cuisine in India. All in all India Hut and Dosa King are my top picks.

I went to an Indian restaurant in Brisbane once.... it wasn't too bad but Indian Food is not my cup of tea because they don't use vegetables you can only see meat, curry powder/paste and coconut milk :o:D:D:D

Believe me, when Indian food is good, it is VERY good.

You just have to find the right place! :D

Not being a Bangkokian and therefore not eaten at many of the Indian restaurants, however, I reckon this one will take some beating:

"Bukharah's Sukhumvit Road near Soi 7

Recommended by an Indian friend, I tested this restaurant and you should not be disappointed. Slightly more expensive than it should be, but probably due to the location on the main street. Try and get a seat on the ground floor as service upstairs is a bit sporadic."

Not my words but I've eaten there on a few occasions and I was certainly impressed.

best thing to do is to learn how to cook Indian...there's some time required for the preparation(peeling and chopping, grinding spices, etc., get the wife away from the soap operas and into the kitchen where she belongs) but the cooking is simple. Then...the next time you're in the UK or elsewhere find an Indian market and load up with whole spices - cumin, coriander, mustard seeds, fenugreek and etc. as well as garam masala, tandoori masala and ground tumeric - just check an Indian cookbook for your favorite dishes...either use a coffee grinder or get a small wooden mortar and pestle. You get the best result with freshly ground spices and when whole they last for a year.

I brought a load back from Bahrain...divided it up and brought some to VN where I'm presently working...so ah's set for awhile...

Never had a decent Indian in BKK. But will try the one Yorky mentioned. All the others have either been tasteless and not spicy at all. In this region the best 2 curries i have had were in Laos and a place in Penang. Still not quite as good as what i have had in the UK. But very close. Just remembered went with a mate and his missus the last time i was in Singapore and we ate Indian. That was pretty good also. Oh! Well i'm off back to Blighty in a week or so for 12 days. Will have my fill by the time i come back. BTW The wife Indian food. She donbe the menn thing until she tried it. Alot of Thais are not used to eating Lamb. They say its smells. The missus was the same until she actually tried some decent lamb with no fat(mutton).

don't we all know about that one...sometimes when I enter the mom-in-laws house after a meal has been prepared I have to immediately head back out breathing thru my mouth...

and true about thais not knowing about lamb/mutton dishes...the closest they get to it is some poor old billygoat that was past his usefulness(attacking strangers with head butts)...

however, it is true that my wife did enjoy the occasional mutton shwarma when we were in the Gulf...

I don't understand the appeal of Cha Chas.

My fave BKK Indian restos are

India Hut

The Sunday lunch buffet at the Holiday Inn Silom

The Sunday lunch buffet at Rembrandt Hotel

and for a more moderate price and also excellent -- here they have exceptionally good biryanis (comparable to what you get in Malaysia):

RED PEPPER RESTAURANT

(AT REMBRANDT APTS.)

SUKHUMVIT SOI 20

BANGKOK 10110 THAILAND

PHONE: (66-2) 261-7100

EXT. 7540
