  1. Sorry my mistake, it’s these guys you linked (pistc.com) that are currently undergoing the recertification process so not available at this time,, MOGIT only offer some STCW modules but not the full basic course as they used to when I did it a few years back yep, updated my FOET a couple times at Falck in Bangkok but they don’t seem to offer the STCW apparently. Looks like the only valid option is a trip to Phuket
  2. Decided to start a new post since last info in the searches about 3 years old Anyone recently done it or know where I can have it done, I understand Phuket still do it and next date there is next month but prefer somewhere closer around Pattaya or Bangkok I last did it about 5 years back at MOGIT banglamung but they’re currently under recertification process and can’t really wait as I need this within the next month, I don’t see it amongst available courses at Falck Nutec Bangkok, any confirmed options where I can have it done preferably without having to hop on a flight. edited to add in checking my old certs, it was actually 7 years since I last did it at MOGIT banglamung
  3. Wow, thanks for all the replies, hadn't really checked back till now as I already had the required info from a poster, appreciated from both those respondents who advised on specifically what I was looking for, and also to those with other suggestions, finished up buying her an AIO as planned, and to answer some questions that I don’t really need to answer, yes she certainly could’ve bought one by herself, however I bought it as a bit of a Christmas present, she was quite delighted with it, although it was to help her in her work setup and not really as an irrelevant gift. Quite interesting and humorous to read some of the counter replies, thanks for those too,
  4. Thanks, I’ll check out Pattaya2u next time in town
  5. Any recommendations where to look in and around pattaya, Chon Buri, sriracha etc,, without having to travel to Bangkok, I would even consider a decent used one, I’ve checked tukcom and see little choice there, not sure about the online (invadeit or advice) as I’d rather see the product, I understand better options available and better for upgrading if avoiding All in One PC but it’s what the mrs wants for her works set up. thanks
  6. Jeez, didn’t realize it was so long ago I last used the service, but checking back on my emails I see it was in 2018, time flies. great I’ll check out that other option on return from my next assignment thanks
  7. Returned from an assignment in Middle East last week, immigration queues back to pre covid levels, as title suggests Bangkok Flight Services no longer offer options to use the immigration fast track as part of their package for arriving customers flying on economy, any other options other than the obvious “business or first class travel” to pass through the lengthy queues?.
  8. I’ve been living in thailand long enough to agree in part with you, I can assure you common sense prevails in this instance, if you wonder why she gave up her parental rights you will see the answer to that in the very first line of my post, although I personally feel her giving up parental rights due to work commitments was extreme and she’d have been better with a mutual agreement, but what’s done is done, just looking at whether there are options, my initial thought is to cover the uni costs and after 2 years of the 4 year uni program the daughter can then fully make up her own mind as to where or who she wishes to spend time with,
  9. A number of years back due to work commitments my wife gave up parental rights for her daughter to her ex husband in the courts, the daughter stays with her grandmother in the north whilst the ex husband his wife and their 2 children live in Bangkok, as I understand from the document from the courts granted as agreed by both parties the parental rights were given to the husband and not the grandmother, my wife has kept in continual contact with her daughter with the holiday visit every year. Her daughter is now 18 years old and readying to go to university, however the wife’s ex husbands wife will not provide funding to help this, since I see over recent years my wife and her daughter becoming more closer as she gets older, I have offered to help fund her university costs on condition that my wife’s daughter can be allowed to spend more time with my wife, her ex husband is non to pleased about this, and seems to be blocking the options for his daughter, incidentally the visits of the father to his daughter are similar to my wife again as he has also another family with children from his new wife to take care of. I just wonder whether there are any legal options that can be followed if the ex husband still refuses his daughter the opportunity of a better education, specifically since as I understand it’s the husband who has the parental rights and not a third party (grandparents). really want to avoid any issues but just want to see mother and daughter happy and to give her a chance of university education ?
  10. For me nothing changes except a reduction of time in the quarantine hotel, just be sure to get adequate travel insurance, be smart and continue taking the pre flight pcr, I know I will, I’ve no option due to business travel, spent about 2 and a half months in total quarantines last year traveling in/out, at least they’ve reduced the time spent,, but I’ll continue with that pcr just to be sure, don’t want to have to pay the excess for no reason, especially when most locals just stay at home when testing positive
  11. For Thai pass entry requirements to those that already have adequate long stay Thai insurance for the required covid cover value, is it also requirement to have an additional separate covid travel insurance ?
  12. Did you also the long stay visa insurance cover providing in excess of the minimum requirement for covid treatment,, and also required travel insurance cover for the duration of your permission to stay ? also interested to know what Uk travel policy you used ? I used staysure a couple years back which was at that time accepted
  13. I wonder whether the compulsory long stay insurance which mine covers for well over the minimum amount required for covid illness will suffice for Thai pass entry requirements or will it still be the case to have separate travel insurance for expats on long stay multi reentry permits, last year I had to get 2 insurances, the travel insurance had to provide cover for the duration of my permission to stay, even though I enter/exit every few months,, or maybe they would permit to have a minimum travel cover for 30 days then revert to my long stay cover,
  14. is it still a requirement to have separate covid travel cover for entry, even if I have long stay insurance cover which includes cover for covid related issues,
  15. Ok although this delivery was valued at only 1300, still was sufficient value to incur the Duty, in fact the full invoice was almost double the cost of the contents, absolutely no issues for me since I claim back these costs anyway, I think in more than 10 years living here I may have faced this on one other occasion so not something I do on regular basis, but just posted to try to have an understanding of the procedure and how it works. thanks for all the replies.
  16. Just thought to post this one here to clarify import duty calculations,, I’d have thought import duty rates refer to a % of the cost of the actual item being delivered, However it seems that import duty is calculated by taking the % from a combined total of item cost + freight costs + insurance costs. Maybe someone who is more familiar with importing items can confirm if this is correct ?
  17. Great, Rayong will be my go to place also, but thanks to the previous info I’ll wait till after my birthday
  18. Great thanks, yeah was just unsure about the date of expiry is strangely exactly same date as birthday and not related to previous renewal date, thanks again
  19. Could it be that immigration asked you to get the visa letter just to verify that both passports are the same person which would then allow them to do the visa transfer,,, maybe I’m barking up the wrong tree but I had a similar situation although Amphut related and not immigration office, which was rectified by Brit embassy giving me the letter to confirm old and new passports are one and the same person
  20. Had a renewal 5 years back, just wondering the requirements/paperwork for renewal if they are still same, incidentally my license renewal date is my 60th birthday, any additional requirements for that ? also I’m at different location this time round so different office, do they require proof of address and what docs suffice if so?, thanks in advance
  21. The only way I’d choose to drive my car over riding the big bike is when it’s pissing rain, we’re relying on the story that the biker likely wasn’t looking or whatever, sadly there’s only one side to tell, so many times I’ve seen big trucks suddenly cut across 2 or 3 lanes to catch the U turn, been here long enough to know the standard of driving generally isn’t the same standard as many other countries therefore try to anticipate for such, especially at U turns and junctions, whilst personally I’m not into big noise exhausts and never modified any of my bikes as such, i have installed additional lighting on the bike and I do believe that these can alert other road users to the motorcycle and could potentially save a life, particularly in the scenarios of big trucks at U turns,
  22. it was something that I also considered and getting for the wife to maintain it, but just thought not sufficient support in this area, I had wondered if they could be run using solar panels but additional equipment to supplement a solar mining set up would be quite costly and you’d certainly need the space for that
  23. When I first moved to TH in 2009-2010 we were using the cabinet (move around style) kitchen units and I didn’t really think about the height difference, I doubt if I ever noticed it,, until 5 years later when we were building our first house, I was lucky enough to get home from work whilst the builders were building the walls of the house and only figured it out about the lower worktop height when I noticed how low the window looked at a wall where the units were to be built, took measure of average unit size here and just got them to add another brick in height to all the windows in the house as too close between window sill and worktop height
  24. as I understand the “fit to fly “ is no longer needed to satisfy traveling to thailand, I think they just require the T8 health questionnaire together with your COVID PCR negative result,
  25. thanks to you all for the info, yes also have both the insurances as required for travel and the in country insurance to satisfy immigration requirements,
