If you are married to a thai, you can get citizenship for a fraction of the cost of PR, and you can even get your wife to translate.
How is this possible? First time ever I hear of this. Please share specifics. Very interested indeed.

Prisons are entertainment venues as well
Really dude?
Seems to me we got it better than a whole lot of other places around this globe.
I think you should rethink your prerogatives... for me... who gives a <deleted> about bars and soapy massages when I can still enjoy more freedom than my folks back home.

I guess it is a national security secret as to how when the smart cars enter that they can find villains. I guess they can smell out the dastardly willains... or they can track the wascally rascals...

Despite all the criticism, I really hope it will come true and that it won't be pilfered. My wife is currently working for an international company and they have nothing for her. No social security, no pension plan and no salary increase in the last two years while the foreigners there keep getting 2-5k a month salary increases every year. If I am not there my wife will have nothing left in her old age.
As far as I am concerned, better to try something like this and pray it works than stand by and do nothing. I am not a fan of the PM and this country's heads of state at all... but driving from Bangkok to Pattaya and Banchang has become a lot easier despite everyone saying that the motorway would never be finished because of corruption.
I really hope this can work.

Geeez.... Is it possible that Thai cows, pork or buffalo carry the virus?
Seems like meat vendors are close to home in many of these cases....

Absolutely disgraceful behavior from the Myanmar military as the world stands by and watches it happen! Shame, shame, shame!
I kinda agree with you... but then when countries like the US try to intervene people say the US is acting as an imperialist state and should mind their own beezwax...
Truth is... who can actually keep peace in the world now?
Real catch 22 and it's a shame cos their is no one anyone can really trust anymore. Something must be done but who will be the bouc emissaire?

And the officials that come up with these schemes are elected officials?

From all the hustle and bustle going on in my city it sure is hard to believe this poll. Some things are not always obvious and I am glad that, for now, my family has been spared this hardship. We have had some really dry years so I understand anyone going through hard times.

That old chestnut again.
Your MOE "friend" was talking out of his %$*".
What do you know?
How long you been teaching here? How many people in the know do you know?
I wonder who is talking out of their essra?
If you can't counter-claim what I am saying... then stay in the side lines... seems like a good place for you.

I would like to earn above 40k a month to satisfy the requirements for permanent residency.
Me thinks the permanent residency requirement minimum is 50 000bht.
And.... fyi the gvt gives 40 000bht a month to the schools to hire foreigners. My source is a MOE employee friend of mine and this was the going rate 18 years ago... it was speculated that the HOD's pocket or use the 10 000bht to their own devise. This is why some MEP's can offer 45 000 a month... they will tell you they charge the parents...

Siam Rath reported that deck chair vendors on North Pattaya beach by the Dusit Hotel were doing a roaring trade selling kites to supplement their income.
Does this warrant the use of the word 'brisk" --> active, fast, and energetic.
Damn when I read these posts it makes me wonder about my knowledge of the English language and whether I am losing it or whether the editors here know what they are writing...
How can the sale of a few kites make the sales 'brisk'?
How much is a kite? 120bht?
Jesus Thaivisa... maybe try withholding the play on words and sticking to the point before these reports take a 'nose dive' briskly into the sand?

All of this BS is for BKK. Out here in the other world it will go on as usual. I might be able to make it and walk downtown getting wet and enjoying the water fights with the kids. Great day! Remember this is Thailand if you do not like Songkran consider a long trip home.
I didn't relocate to Thailand for Songkran... and my first impressions of it 18 years were that it sucked... big time. My wife and I lock down for the entirety of it, and she is Thai. It is the worst form of holiday reveling I have ever seen. It is like turning Christmas into a bonfire activity in which people light up there Xmas trees for the kicks of it.

Sixty four year old German national Ferrer I.J. who was apparently uninjured was detained by the Muang Pattaya police and charged with negligent driving, causing injury and mental grief and going through a red light.
Geez... he will spend years in court fighting those charges... imagine if a Thai were involved.
He will surely lose his shirt... wonder how much it will cost him to clean up this mess.

Who are you to say "WE"? Speak on your behalf. It's been legal in Canada for a while now and no big new headings as to crime going up... or people heading for rehab centers.
What do you know about marijuana? I quit 20 years ago but I have no problem with anyone wanting to smoke and I do not think anyone who does should be branded a criminal because some short people rather have prohibition on it knowing full well that if it were legal people would grow there own and that it would then be difficult to tax.
