  1. Plug yourself into Rawai.

Get a room at Green Valley Resort, they have a pool, wifi, onsite bar. restaurants up and down the streets in all directions

Next door is Freebirds, and although Chris the owner doesn't live up to the name of the place (the birds there are not for free) he's a great bloke and there are other good guys there too.

Then off to Asia/Jasmine bars where you will meet plenty of punters googling the girls, and knocking back some drinks. Then down to Laguna bars where you will have plenty of people and lots of partying.

If you are still standing at 3AM, get to Icon pub which is walking distance to your Green Valley Resort. Sleep til 1 the next day, head for Nai Harn Beach.

There is your program designed by GOM, enjoy.

+1 Took the words right out of my mouth GOM. See you at the Freebird Lokililithu!

  2. Aaaahh ... BangToaBoy you are really struggling to defend your pals in the Tuk Tuk union. Well, up to you ... :whistling:

I don't see BTB's comments as defending the actions of the Tuk Tuk mobs. He's just pointing out that comparing prices in tourist areas with prices in rural or city areas is irrelevant to the thread and pointless. I agree.

The problem is the Tuk Tuk drivers' readiness to inflict extreme mob violence on farang tourists with impunity. That's what this thread is about, not bargain transport tips!

  3. Theres a big difference between being culturally tolerant and accepting, and being apathetic about life threatening shortcuts and bad choices..

Should we just say discos shouldnt have fire escapes because thats how its done ?? Or passenger ferries may as well skip the life jackets because.. well.. lifes cheap ?? Lets forget seat belts or crash helmets.

Someone choose to put that there.. That choice cost a young man his life. Unless poor judgement like that gets punished theres no reason for the next person not to also use poor judgement, and also cost lives. Thai or farang, people deserve better. To argue otherwise is to say we may as well remain cavemen, because 'thats how it was'.. Suggesting that people should expect the ground to not kill them is not the first leak in the dyke of some Orwellian big brother nanny state, its not the mark of some superior social freedom.

So where's your suggestions on how to 'punish' the poor judgement LivingLos? How can this problem be solved and what are you doing about it? Ranting on about the way things should be is just a useless exercise.

Unless you have the solution you're just blowing hot air.

    How does the saying go?

"give me the strength to change the things I can change,

the serenity to accept the things I can't change

and the wisdom to know the difference"

    (or something like that)

If you can't change it you have to accept it. I think that's the point AjarnJan was making.

  4. I don't get it. Reading here I only see criticisms of the Thai way. You don't seem to realize that things like this actually are what make Thailand what it is; the place we have chosen to live or visit on holiday. Here there aren't laws and regulations for everything; and the ones there are aren't enforced very strictly. This gives you the wonderful freedom to use your head and be responsible for yourself instead of having others packing you into cotton balls and deciding what's best for you.

I surely feel sorry for the young man's family and friends because of this tragic accident. However Thailand is what it is and accident like this occur here. Before going here on holiday, or to live here, you should be aware of that, and make up your mind whether you are willing to run the risks that goes with it or not. People ought to be responsible for themselves instead of always just blaming things on others.

I have worked and lived most of my life in 3rdworld countries, been in the midst of civil wars, terrorist attacks, mob rule, and similar stuff. Yet I'm still alive, have never been hurt, badly cheated, or otherwise burned my fingers severely. I surely had my share of bad experiences, but when that happened I only blamed myself for my lack of forethought, not the place or the people I had chosen to be amongst. Once I had a close friend killed by a dentist in Bangladesh. Who's really to blame? The poorly educated dentist who gave my friend an overdose of anaesthesia or my highly educated friend who was stupid enough to go to a dentist in Bangladesh? If you are a smoker and catch lungcancer can you then blame the tobacco industry?

If you want babysitter mentality with laws and regulations for everything try out a place like Denmark or Singapore instead of Thailand. I'm sure you're going to love it :bah: .

Newbie or not that was an outstanding post, agreed totally.

    Me too!

  5. We used their service a few days ago. They came to the house to administer booster shots to our dogs (charged 800 baht).

They seemed competent enough. 2 Thai ladies, possibly sisters.

  6. Most TV and some other electronics can handle dual and low voltages (110 or 220) and when one phase goes down (blown fuse on transformer) then often that phase picks up some inductive power from the other live lines giving a very low voltage supply. lights dim, fans run slow, fridge not start, but the TV is Ok.

I think the term for this is 'brown out'.

  7. A tad off topic but it has to be said:

I've tried the pizzas at Nikita's, M&M's, Amalfi, Ellis (now closed) and without a doubt, the best pizzas in Rawai are from Modena on Sai Yuan Rd. Check it out.

Everytime I have driven past Modena in the evening it is empty. There seems to be one poster who always recommends Modena, is that you?

Give yourself a treat next time you're driving past and get yourself a take-away pizza. Maybe next time it will be you recommending Modena once you've sampled their pizzas.

  8. Why would you assume I paid for it all? My wife has payed her own way since the day I met her, until the day I told her she would never have to work again if she didn't want to (When my son was born) I have always believed that being a full time mum and house wife, is as deserving and equal a role in a marriage as earning the money. There have been times in the UK that I was a kept man, when my wife worked and I didn't.

So, WE pay for anything we own, and it gos in my wifes and sons name.

If we were to divorce, would I put my ex wife son on the streets? Would the money spent be relevant? Would I not have money in UK bank accounts to support myself?

    I'm on your bus BTB

  9. I think it's a great idea to let the schoolkids do this. Hopefully they will get a sense of achievement when they see the results of their work and pass on the lesson to their own kids later in life. Education is the key to many of Thailand's problems. The same applies to most countries.

  10. Mr Wannawut was driving in the southbound lane when he noticed a motorcycle parked ahead at the side of the road. Suddenly a man jumped on the bike, started it up and zoomed right out in front of his truck without looking, Lt Thannakit said.

RIP the unfortunate bike driver but I'm thinking that if Mr Wannawut had the time to see all this unfold in front of him, surely he had enough time to react to the bike driver 'zooming' right in front of him.

Seeing a bike by the side of the road......no need to react.

Seeing a guy jump on the bike..............no need to react.

Seeing the guy start up the bike...........no need to react.

Seeing the guy zoom out on to the road.....no time to react!

Only the last action is relevant in this case.

  11. I can definitely recommend the Curry Shack.

I've had the vindaloo and the madras - both excellent. Prices are very reasonable too!

They also have a range of Indian spices for sale in case you want to have a go at making your own curries.

  12. I've given up trying to find a really good burger (at a reasonable price). I agree with the others that it's best to make your own - although the ingredients in my burgers are a bit more involved than those of seriouseats. I also use bread slices rather than buns - important to use quality bread rather than those awful sweetened standard loaves.

Quality bread can be bought at the bakery next to The Family restaurant. Not expensive either.

  13. Mr Richards Indian curry.

100 THB cooked by a true chef. yum yum.

Has a shack outside Roxannes bar in Rawai.

I can definitely recommend these curries, good portions, very tasty and great value for your money!

  14. Deep Bar is the blue bar jap.gif

Freebird bar full of Thais now & up for sale @ 3.2 mill Baht

The original Freebird bar is not 'full of Thais', it's the regular haunt of many ex-pats of various nationalities. Always a good night there.

The New Freebird is next door, has live music most nights (Thai band) and has a mix of Thai and farang punters. This is the one that's up for sale.

  15. My pipes are a bit loud,, i don't rev it i just ride it, this is my 3th Harley in Thailand over the last 10 years, nobody have ever told me my bike is to loud, why???

its look like its only the people in here who complain about loud pipes,,,,i wonder why :)

Where else can they complain? If someone complained directly to you about your excessively noisy bike, what would you do? Refit the manufacturers pipes? - I don't think so!

Wait a minute....maybe you have a point there HDRIDER, maybe it would be a better idea to take down the registration numbers of these offensive bikes and report them to the police? As you know, the BIB will only take action if there is a definite complaint. Thanks for your input.

  16. There is no proof anywhere that a noisy bike is safer. That's just the excuse these louts use to try to justify their behavour.

KBB stated that his bike has been checked and is legal - no it's not and it wouldn't be legal in Europe or the USA.

Why aren't they legal if it makes for safer biking? Helloo???

These wannabe butch bikers (they certainly aren't real bikers) enjoy disrupting the lives of others in order to feed their fragile egos. The mod exhaust systems are simply for cosmetic purposes.

Did you know that when they convert to straight pipes they get rid of the catalytic converters?

Yes folks, they are knowingly pumping out much more pollution than a non-modified bike.

The bottom line is that these selfish posers just don't care, as KBB stated in an earlier post.

I reckon they've been watching too many re-runs of 'The Wild One'. :jerk:

Knights of the road? - Yeah Right!!
