    P.S.

If you do go to see some live music in Rawai, I hope you really like Hotel California.......

KarenBravo, I haven't seen you at any of the venues I mentioned. You really don't have a clue about the present music scene in Rawai. Meet me at The Freedom Bar on Friday and be prepared to hear some great live music. Come early if you want a seat as the place is usually packed.

  3. Rawai is the only choice right now. The place is open and buzzing. Bars and restaurants are open. Live music most nights. Cheap accommodation (e.g. 2 bedroom villa with pool 15000 baht p.m.) Some expats have moved down to Rawai from Patong, Karon and Kata as those areas are ghost towns.

Hmm, you must have a hell of a lot of pre-existing medical conditions.  More than $8,000 in premiums every month?  I'm almost 62 and pay $200 per month for a $1 million+ annual coverage.

Or perhaps you mean 100,000 Thai baht?

Wait till you reach 70 simon43. Your premiums will rocket. I was paying around 20,000 baht p.a. for years (no pre-existing conditions) on reaching 70 I got a nice letter from the Insurance company saying my premiums were now 100,000 baht p.a. World renowned company. Happens to everybody. Sorry to burst your bubble.

    You're answering a different question.

I was talking about the actual reason the large amount of troops and police are out on the streets and suggesting their gathering is directly opposed to that which they expect from the public.

The side effect of curtailing the activities of bad guys and bike racers is not actually relevant to the point.

And, you'd be surprised what I can work out without the need to shout!

I'll say it again. They are not 'gathering'! They will be at different points all over the island and if you check the photograph it shows that they are observing the social spacing rule.

What's your opinion as to why they are out on the streets enforcing the curfew? I didn't shout this time, I just used inverted commas and an exclamation mark for emphasis.

    Is that ok?

Perhaps for my edification and also for the other "Sad Sacks" on the forum, you could state your version of the obvious?

How does a gathering on the streets of large amounts of troops, public servants and volunteers to control a few late night wanderers prevent, not exacerbate, the spread of the virus?

Ask yourself why the curfew is between 10pm and 4am. People have lost their incomes and some will think of turning to crime to get money. Work it out, it's for YOUR protection!
Anyone skulking about during those hours are possibly up to no good if they haven't got a legitimate reason to be out.

You won't find Phostrogen as a brand of fertilizer here, though most garden shops or Homepro will have a range of products specific to where/what you want to feed.   Lazada is another option.

Lazada only stock large sizes, much too big for my purposes. I've checked the garden shops and Homepro but I can't read Thai so don't really know if their fertilizer products contain the same ingredients as Phostrogen. Thanks for your suggestions anyway Pagallim. ????‍????

  8. Nah! Forget surface tanks and all those expensive solutions.

Pump it dry, get a couple of your local, keen, well diggers (every Thai village has them!) to dig it deeper (They'll clean out all the mud and junk in the bottom while they are at it), lengthen the pvc pipe into the well, and bingo! you have more water. Just remember to fill all the containers you have with the pumped out water because it will take a few hours for the well to refill.

I've done it twice - cost me 200B per time (Stupid Bangkok rules on minimum wages are ignored here in the boonies.)

What sort of well can be dug by hand? My bored well goes to 65 metres depth and it's still drawing water.

I suggest building a concrete storage tank underground and run all the drains to the tank, even the well pumps into it when I switch it on. I have never ran out of water again and don't need to rely on the overpriced water trucks again.

I just checked it and I'm at about half a tank so about 12-13 thousand litres left and it was all from the rain last season. Just drop one slow release chlorine tablet into it once and a while.

Q."What sort of well can be dug by hand"?

    A. The sort of well made using concrete rings which are all dug by hand. facepalm.gif I hope this helps.

  9. These vendors have no other means of income so of course they'll keep trying to work the beaches. It's that or starve. There is nothing wrong with forbidding them from the beaches now but some consideration must be given to them to continue working. They are not looking for cash handouts that farmers have been getting. They deserve respect.

The government has taken to employ rice and sugarcane farmers during drought times in civil projects so that they will continue to earn income. It needs to do something of the same for beach vendors. But that may require retraining and creative solutions to relocate the vendors to industries where they can both contribute to society and to the own survival.

This military government seems to adhere to tried and true practices with little penanche towards creative solutions. Since they are not accountable to the citizens, they seem blind to citizen needs.

'These vendors have no other means of income so of course they'll keep trying to work the beaches. It's that or starve'

What a load of uninformed tosh!

There is plenty of paid work to be had in Phuket. These people don't want to work, they want to sit around while the money rolls in as they have been doing illegally for years.

That's why they keep trying to get back on the beaches.

I have a neighbour who recently sold a beach chair 'concession' for 15 million baht!! A shock for the 'buyer' when the military arrived I should imagine.

Keep these vultures off the beaches!
