If the current tourism numbers are any indicator, I believe that is exactly what they are doing.

I did some dummy bookings LAX-BKK on Cathay, I'm seeing prices of anywhere from $3-10K for economy during the christmas period , with anywhere from 2-3 flights per week via Hong Kong. Some were the standard one-stops, others were two to three stops. They have upgauged their long haul flights from A350-1000s to B777-300ERs so they must be forecasting some kind of traffic increase but again they're still only sending planes across the water 2-3 times a week. Pre-pandemic, Cathay did indeed fly PE HK-BKK, several flights a day at least. Typically they'd put PE lift on flights that went onward usually to Singapore and what not. These days, who knows, they're barely flying as it is now. JL appears to have more lift with daily trips on B777-200 for the Asian sectors but are only using 787s for the transpacific sectors.

Thing of it is, if Thailand actually were to scrap this silly quasi-reopening scheme, the air traffic numbers wouldn't have to be explained away!

We both know the answer to that. It’s a BS money making scheme, for the hotels, insurance companies, the hospitals, and the government. Which is why I’m I personally going to Pass on Thailand for 2021.

So if we know that, then why is Thailand basing Thailand Pass and its entire reopening around people who are supposedly safer because they are vaxxed?

Any time you’re infected is too long, especially when you don’t present with any symptoms, as people who have been accepted for Thailand Pass only to test positive on arrival are unfortunately finding out. Do better with your research. The data is out there. There shouldn’t need to be a “Thailand Pass” in the first place. The paper TM.6 form that they make you fill out every time you’re inbound to Bangkok, a vaccination certificate, the appropriate visa, and MAYBE a negative PCR/NAAT test should be all you need to enter Thailand. Nothing else. And the numbers will continue to play out that story until the Thai government get their heads out of their bums and stop manufacturing all this difficulty. If they wanna make an app that you can upload this info into to get a QR code, cool. But anything else and the majority of tourists aren’t gonna go for it. All that just to get there and have a better chance of getting covid anyway? Eff outta here. And not that I need to prove anything to you? But I have a piece of property that’s likely become a beehive after two years away and Thai friends who can’t wait to have me back, so get off me with this “Thai basher” nonsense. Stop simpin. This whole scheme is obtuse and absurd, and all by design. They don’t want farangs there, and this is a real convenient way to keep them out. In Spain, where I am, you need a PLF and a vax cert. that’s it. The whole country is booking 2000 cases/day. Meanwhile Thailand is booking 4x that and those are the ones we know about. Only those with vested interests are jumping through the hoops to get there. You can see the evidence everywhere. Manufactured complexity, just how the Thai government wants it. And the silly comments on masks and vax…if those were actually truly effective, this virus would’ve run out of hosts to infect by now. All the vax does is keep you from getting deathly sick, studies worldwide show the vaxt harbor and shed the virus as much as the un-vaxt. Masks merely limit the amount of aerosolized saliva that gets into the air, they don’t stop viral particles. The debate on this has long since been settled. I hope your brown envelope is fat.

You’re never gonna get an answer…they’re too busy simping for the government. i hope they’re getting paid at least. the fact people are even discussing this should show how much they like thailand. but this ???????? is too far over the pale for anybody who doesn’t have a vested interest in getting back there, such as family or property. Nobody’s putting up with it, not when there are closer destinations with a far less chance of picking up covid.
