  1. A build is a your basic Kodi software programmed by a third party by which they do all the work of downloading the repos that contain all the add-ons and then installing a bunch of those add ons to give you a fully loaded version of Kodi.

Any build will contain what the creator of that build "thinks" a fully loaded version of Kodi is. Most 3rd party builders generally throw in the kitchen sink in terms of add ons as they try to make something for everyone. That makes some builds large and bloated. Generally you will find that you end up using 3 or 4 addons for most of your viewing and 100's of addons that the builder put in the system are just left there.

Most builds have the same set of addons included but I use builds because good builds set up your home screens set up your Libiary and add artwork and link every thing into your screensaver. They set up services like subtitles etc etc . Even great builds may require some tweaking, I turn automatic play feature off, I adjust the audio output to be used through my AV receiver and delete a few shortcuts from the main home screen that I don't use.

Finally pretty much all builds are FREE, people create them because they love doing it. Some builders are chasing Kodi community fame, some builders are obsessed with creating the perfect system, some want to provide a system so you can get rid of the cable company etc etc

  2. One thing I would mention is that some of these builds have a lot if bloat ware in them. It doesn't bother me as my box is a Intel NUC with Intel i5 processor 16 mb of ram and a 250gb ssid hard drive running windiws 10 so it doesn't blink at anything Kodi can throw at it. I did try to set up Andy's build on a 3 or 4 year old android MX box and the performance wasn't that great.

  3. I use Andy's build and just make some minor changes to the start up page like deleting the karaoke, news and other shortcuts I don't like. I also turn off auto play on genius and the one channel.

The builder of Andy's build runs a website called Kodimaster.com ( the repo and wizard for all the builds is in http:/kodimaster.com/repo). He has a bunch of his own builds and also a bunch of 3rd party builds. I stick with Andy's build as I think it's his flagship so it's always updated but some of the other builds are very good as well, but I personally can't be bothered going through the hassle of installing and testing them as Andy's build has everything I use and it dos the job for me.

  4. Couldn't you just leave your stuff here and go get a feel for the place first

I have, I loved the central areas particularly Da Nang and Hoi An, oceans, extremely fresh seafood, good beer for ~8 baht/glass, cheap, and the people are friendly. I wouldn't mind HCMC but it is very crowded and noisy. I am sure the quality of life will be higher than in Thailand if the visa situation is easier.

Da Nang gets about 8 -10 weeks of good weather each year when you can actually enjoy the beaches. If you visit during that period then it's paradise but otherwise it's too wet, too cold or too humid. The weather really sucks.. The other thing that you need to be aware of if you are planning an extended stay not in a hotel is that Da Nang is controlled by the army and considered a communist cultural hotspot. Fun is not allowed. As a foreigner living there the people may be nice but anyone in authority will consider you a carrier of social evils there to pollute society.. You'll see lots of residential streets with blue signs accriss the entrance with Vietnamese writing which roughly translated is this street is protected against social evils by the fatherland front. It means that there will either be a resident or some old guy sitting in a chair watching what everybody in the street does and reporting it. ( it exists in HCMC to a lesser extent but is still there) you will be the center of attention that's for sure.

Finally Da Nang still has a huge dioxin ( agent orange) problem. They are still cleaning up areas just outside of the city and there are concerns that it has contaminated the water table. Googke it now or you may end up coming back to Thailand with two heads and 3 arms.

  5. I came across an interesting series when surfing the latest episodes list on genisis .

Series name is Glitch, it's an Australian series about a bunch of people from over the past 200 years rise from the grave in a small Victorian town. The local policeman discovers them and tried to keep them hidden.

I've watched several episodes and it definitely makes you curious to see more. It's not an edge of your seat cliffhanger can't wait for next weeks episode but more of a "lost" style, what's happening here I need to watch more to get more information.

Maybe not for everybody but I like it so far.

  6. I'm excited about Fear the Walikg Dead. It's the spinoff series of the walking dead and it premieres on August 23 in the states so it will be available on Kodi and bit torrents August 24 here.

  7. Downloaded, but, haven't watched, yet.

May delete it if I need the room.

Waiting for the 1st July to download episode 2 of Mr. Robot. Looks like a very promising series.

This is an interesting series. I am beginning to wonder if Christian Slater ( mr robot ) may be a figment of the main characters imagination something like fight club.

  9. I have the original "SE" lifetime visa which requires me to extend every 90 days at Changewattana. Years ago this used to be ok as the extension was processed at the diplomat section so you would be in and out in 30 minutes to 1 hour. Some time ago they expanded the processing section to include student Visa's and now it take a whole day of waiting to get your extension which is a real drag.

Has anyone used the elite service to do the extension of stay for you? And if so what is the process. ( I know they can do the 90 day residence report but I am interested in the extension of stay report)

Also any news on the 5 year driver license?.

  10. If you go to the Streamtopia website they have a section on how to get Netflix. I bought a box from them ( it was fully loaded already ) and it works very well. The quality of streaming on Netflix is excellent but for my tv shows I still watch them on Kodi (xbmc) as it has more up to date episodes than Netflix.

  11. I agree this is a good unit. Around the end of last year there was a problem with the Internet cable being cut in the south China sea. My ISP true throttled all the consumer bandwith to favor the corporate clients at that time so my internet was pretty much useless.

I bought the AIS pocket wifi with a package of hi speed 21 Mbps and 12 gig data. I was able to stream movies over xbmc better than my true connection could even when it was working properly.

  12. I've never heard of this service in Thailand and a quick read of the terms and conditions on their web site says its up to you to ensure you have enough internet bandwidth for it to work. Also I thought the monthy fees were super high.

Personally I think you would be better buying an androx box with Kodi. It's a one off cost of 4000 - 6000 baht and then everything is free.

If you you dont know about Kodi and would like a someonr to program everything for you then I would recommend you contact Patrick at Streamtopia ( they are a sponsor of this forum) and he can set you up with a box customized to your TV and movie viewing needs.

I recently purchased a box from him ( cost was a little under 6,000 baht and it is excellent.

I also have boxes that I bought myself at pantip and fortune town for 4-5,000 baht and programmed them myself but the guys at Streamtopia do a much better job then I can so its worth using them. I plan to buy another box from them for my place in Phuket.

And before I forget yes I get all the British TV and sky sports and TV from all over the world. I have TV show and movies and even radio. And it's all free other than the original cost of the box.

Please note no matter what box you get they will all depend on the quality of your internet connection so bear that in mind.

  13. I would like to order some new furniture from Italy and have it shipped to Thailand. The company in Italy will ship it but I'm not sure what exactly I will have to do to get it out of customs and how much it will cost. I understand the thai import tax will be around 30% calculated on the price plus shipping cost and vat will be added to that price. The cost of the furniture will be around 50k euro.

Has anyone ever done this and did any problems occur at the Thai side? We're there any unexpected charges and did customs give you any grief.

    Thanks

  14. A few new series to add

Dig - an American FBI agent in Israel stumbles onto a g,oval conspiracy

American Odyssey - a special forces team is wiped out by contractors to hide terrorist funding
