  1. The Japanese used prisoners of war to build their rail infratructure, now the Chinese are getting Thailand to do it for them. 😉
  2. Lasic won't work for everyone, I tried to get it done back home in Australia before moving here 17 years ago, it didn't work for me. They told me that it won't work in around 10% of people. They test you by figuring out which is your dominant eye and then they fit a flexible contact lens to one eye, can't remember which one. The theory is, within a few days your brain will adapt and use one eye for close up vision and one for long sight.
  3. I had a different problem last week when trying to do a transfer from Australia, even though I have been using Wise for quite a while, the bank declined my transfer to Wise 3 times and I then had to sit on the phone to my Oz bank waiting for nearly half an hour to speak to someone to clear it up, all because it was flagged as a possible scam. Grrrr what a bloody waste of my time. Com bank if anyone is wondering.
  4. I used to get heart burn that would kill a bull Elephant because I had an Osophegial Ulcer and I was told I needed to take a pill for the rest of my life. After a checkup at Queen Sirikit hospital and telling the Navy doctor I spoke to, he implored me to stop taking most of the meds I was taking. So I went looking for an alternative and Raw Apple Cider Vinegar was the answer. It needs to be the unfiltered type which still has the Mother in the bottle, I take 1 tablespoon in a good sized glass with soda water, that I started that maybe 8 or 9 years ago now and I can't remember the last time I had heart burn. Just recently I have switched to Coconut Cider Vinegar and that works just as well and is considerably cheaper.
  5. There are actually 5 variants now of Dengue Fever not 4, and as previously stated you only have immunity to the variations you've had, I've had it twice, the 2nd one wasn't anywhere near as bad as the first which was horrific, and I got a full understanding as to why it is referred to as Break Bone disease. 🥴
  6. I was told the same thing the last time mine was rejected after returning from overseas, first 90 day after return must be done in person, then from that point on you can do it online.
  7. My wife had a nose job about 16 years ago, nothing fancy, they just inserted a rod of silicon about the thickness of a pencil to form a ridge. The only reason I agreed to pay for it was she needed to start wearing spectacles, and she basically had nothing to hang them on.
  8. Back when I used to live on Soi Yensabi about 16 years ago, the BiB used to call it Soi Yabba, may explain what happened
  9. Did mine last Friday the day before it was due, with Pattaya Immigration had it back 2 hours later, fastest I ever got it back was 30 mins, I could never understand all this nonsense about it not working, as I have been doing mine online ever since they first offered it, obviously operator error, ie: GIGO
  10. I'm using Windows 10 and Firefox, with the uBlock Origin add-on, and it recently started blocking posts because it contains a tracker
  11. I did say the form to print out, or did you miss that bit, the one you staple in the back of your passport.
  12. Mine was due 19th, so I did it on the 18th because immigration was closed on the 19th, submitted it at 9:06am, had my form to print out at 9:09am. Never had a problem with it.
  13. I took a punt a few months ago after realising I had missed it and lodged an online report 3 days after it was due and it went through no problems at all, I also saw a post from a friend on Facebook yesterday saying he lodged his a day late and it went through as well. The old system was very strict on when you could do it, but this new one seems to be a bit more flexible.
  14. I've been here nearly 16 years now and quite a few years back I was asked if I would be interested in teaching in a Thai technical college, my simple answer was, NO, because you can't teach a Thai anything, especially if you are a Falang. I did some renovations here a few years ago that required a sloping fence top to be cut off and a new top put on it, I told the guys doing it I want a 10mm slope put across the top of it, they argued with me that it wasn't the way "They" do it, I simply told them I was paying and I wanted it done my way. When the same guys came back and saw why I had asked them to do that, they said, Oh mister you very smart, we would never have done that. It was there, so I could fit a flashing on top of the fence so the rain would drain off it.
  15. I don't live in a condo, but my first lodgment wasn't accepted even though the woman that processes them at my IO said she remembered it and had approved it. I figured out that I had to use exactly what I used when I lodged my extension or what is stored in their database won't match, luckily I had used the editable Word doc and saved it, so I could refer back to that. I've never had an issue since.
  16. They are taking around 3 days to do a transfer from Oz to my SCB account and have been for a while, originally it was done pretty smartly same day.
  17. I've been advocating for a while that if you are legally married to a Thai that you should be allowed to be a joint owner of a house and land package, if it is your principal place of residence. If they wanted to restrict that at all, then cap the size of the land parcel, and then they could say if you want to move and build a new home, then the foreigner's name could not be added to the new deed until it is removed from the previous properties deed. Where's the harm in that.
  18. I did mine yesterday, it was relatively painless for a change, word of warning, DON'T use a downloadable TM7, go there and get their form, they won't accept the downloadable version, 2 years in a row I've had them rejected and made to fill in 2 new ones. Also I was asked for photo copies of the inside cover page of my SCB passbook, not sure I've been asked for that before, I use the seasoned 400k method.
  19. Far out, I did around 13 or 14 border runs when I first moved over here 15-1/2 years ago and never paid more than 1200 baht, things have gone through the roof it appears ????
  20. I started using Wise to transfer from Australia to my SCB account about a year ago, at first it was in the account soon after, over the last few months it has dragged out to 3 or 4 days to show up.
  21. Not sure where you got 990 baht from, Int’l Small Packet-Air is only 195 baht. I priced up sending a coffee mug to the states, now that is expensive when it is going to cost around 7 times the cost of the mug @ 690 baht. https://www.thailandpost.co.th/un/rate_result_nrs/?service_id=&to_country_code=US%3A%3AUnited+States+of+America&parcel_weight=50
  22. I switched from OrbitRemit to Wise a few months back, initially it was pretty quick, in my SCB account same day, lately it has been really slow, I did a transfer on Mon 28th Feb, and it didn't go into my SCB account until the 3rd Mar and I set up the transfer from my ComBank account around 5am here in Thailand, so it was done well and truly early enough in the morning to have been completed same day or at worse next day.
  23. I ordered a couple of things from Aliexpress and according to their tracking it has been in the country since 30th Nov, it's ridiculous, I can only assume customs is where they are. The bits only cost less than US$10, but I wish customs would pull it's finger out. When I order stuff from Lazada they seem to clear customs in a day or so, but maybe they have a deal with them.
  24. I have a Yamaha Aerox the wife and stepson bought me for my birthday this year, 155cc Fuel injected, goes like a cut snake, fantastic bike. I rode a Suzuki Hayate for 14 years before that and thought that was pretty good, but the Yammie is a cut above.
