  1. I had the same problem....went to Bangkok Bank and was refused.  I then downloaded the Thai name for "retired person"...printed it onto paper and presented it to the same bank staff and asked to open an account again...success.

You don't need a work permit if you are "retired"...you would never be issued with one anyway as someone on a retirement visa is not permitted to be working.

The Bangkok Bank has online forms for completion and a visit to your embassy is required to have one of the forms "verified" and stamped by the embassy before the a/c will be officially opened.

    Good luck

In the real world the owner would be responsible, but this is Thailand and getting an owner to do any maintenance is almost impossible. (money only flows one way) Why don't you go and buy a cheap replacement that you can use and put the broken one back when you move out.

Perfect answer......had the same carry on with my apartment owner over the bum wash hose...it had split and was leaking....apartment owner said 750b to replace...I went to Tesco bought a similar one for 299b....left the apartment 2 years later...put the split hose back on....... petty No! Its a matter of  principle...the hose had split because of "fair wear and tear"....something unheard of in Thailand it seems when renting an apartment.......or a jet ski...!!!!!

Nobody knows what's round the corner regarding relationships. We all change with age so perhaps those changes will make a difference...

I have the T-shirt regarding my UK ex after 20+ years...sad-face.gif.a9520de50d7ffbb57456f138b1bf5b3b.gif

...and I have the T-shirt from 24 years of marriage to my New Zealand ex......there are NO guarantees in life...no matter what...!!!!

I have found Bic Easy Clic from Lotus to be very good at 110 baht per 4 blades.  Did not like the more expensive 4 blade model.  Previously used Mach 3 and there 5 blade models.

Bic Easy Clic Pre Season Refillable Shaver 3pcsBic Easy Clic! 3 Blades Refillable Shaver 4pcs

lopburi3 is correct with his post...I have been using the above product for the 8 years I have been in Thailand...8 years ago the packs of blades were 65b...today they 110b...no big deal

The Gillete products seem to be increasing in price weekly...my local Tesco has some packs of 4 Gillete blades at a ridiculous 900b.

The Barbasol foam cans are the way to go also (American import) at Tesco...avoid the Gillete ones..to expensive.

As an alternative shaving cream go to The Body Shop and purchase a pottle of "Macca Root" shaving cream...around 600b ..expensive but will last you a year or more (no BS)...this stuff is a "natural" cream derived from some peruvian plant...and will give you the closest shave imaginable...like a babies bum.

You will need one of those old fashioned shaving brushes to use the Macca Root product 60b and these are  available at Ma and Pa shops...or your local mens hairdresser.

long post......but this is an important "man only" issue...right.....hahaha

  5. It's often a difficult call for me...should I give..or shouldn't I.

The children begging around Bangkok pull strongly at my heart strings.

I don't like to see kids begging. Kids should be playing in the park, having fun and doing other stuff that kids do...so I give a little to them.

The beggars that are disabled..well..... I stopped giving to them some time ago...I asked myself the question...How the hell does the beggar with the cup in his mouth sliding along on a wooden platform be in Sukhumvit Road one day and in my suburb 25km's away the next.

There was an article written some time ago...where it was stated that 90% of the "adult" beggars were controlled by beggar masters (read the mafia)....and were transported all over Bangkok so as not to appear in the same location for too longer period....lest the "givers" amongst us wised up.

The article claimed that the money the beggars received ended up in the mafia pockets and in exchange the beggars received some shit accommodation and food plus a tiny percentage of their daily takings.

I don't know if the children seen begging are part of this setup or not....but I give to the kids.

Maybe you are not interested in what others think.

In my opinion not a good idea taking your wife away from her family.

At the end of the day they are family, you are the husband.

In Thailand, family comes first above and before all others, you are the farang husband.

She can get rid of you, but not her blood relations, be very careful.

Well said...colineil......and absolutely 100% true....particularly the words "..in Thailand family comes first above and before all others..."

I would also like to add....be very very careful...!

  7. They even can't get the 90 day reporting working properly....how in hell would they ever get a EVisa system working...i could envisage a traveller in another country booking his air ticket and paying for it only to find the Thai Evisa system offline for two weeks as happened recently to the 90 day shambles....and would the Thai paper Visa on arrival system still be running alongside the EVisa system...not a hope..."solly must use computer"

  8. Same with the sellers in Chinatown...90...100...120b..special numbers they tell me because of the "recent major event" that occurred....same with black clothing...food..bottled water...all prices jacked up..because of you know what.....for me it is a huge show of disrespect....that the sellers of these items increase their prices....total blatant disrespect ...they just can't help themselves can they....

  9. yes agreeing with previous posters...don't go the option B and C...it would be disastrous and even dangerous for you to do so....it doesn't matter for what reason whatsover in the whole world...make a thai lose face.....and all hell could let loose on YOU.

I feel certain your wife can handle this situation...just you remain calm...don't make to bigger issue of it in front of your wife...it not as though she loves they guy or even likes him.

At the end of the day as another poster has intimated...she can resign if it gets to uncomfortable for her to work alongside him...and based on the previous behaviour of this guy (as you posted)...sue the sh*t out of the company she currently works for if she is forced to resign...sexual harrassment...loss of earning...loss of face (haha)...stress...not eating as a result of the stress caused...cannot sleep...losing weight as a result of the stress...

.hell I reckon there at least 100 good lawyers ready and waiting to take on her case (if it results in your good wife having to resign her position)

  10. mix some bird seed with some Plaster of Paris in flat shallow dishes...set the dishes out prior to the birds arriving...when they feed on the bird seed and ingest the plaster of paris you will have the most wonderful display of dead birds in all sorts of poses..... (a new tourism venue for TOT)...if the birds don't feed on the seed/PP at night they will definitely feed on it at first light....

Works a treat with rats/mice as well...change the seed for cheese or crumbs of meat
