Thankyou ubonjoe, I have been in Thailand since 2005, married a Thai woman in 2010. I didn't bother with the marriage visa, just kept renewing my OA visa every year. I think this year I might apply for the marriage visa, and I have the 400,000 in the bank. Do I have to leave the country to change the visa? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

The fellow at the currency exchange desk told me yesterday that Central Festival branch would be a good option for me, and that I won't have to transfer money or close accounts, just bank as normal using my existing bank books etc. Hope it's true, although I'm not enthralled with Central Festival.

There is a guy with a shop at Kad Suan Kaew just across from the nearest entrance to Tops. I've used him many times, my wife has had shoes and purses repaired, he also makes keys and managed to get me into my car once, after I locked myself out. Very handy guy.

I stopped at the highway police station not far from Promenada. According to the officer, 90 km is the speed limit on Every highway in Thailand. That is obviously incorrect, but I went to the government bank and paid the 500 baht because it may really be 90kmh on the section where I was photographed, near Central Festival.

II did not suggest that anyone not pay a fine, I get very few tickets, and pay them all. My wife said that the ticket was not right and called the authorities, who agreed with her. I was simply telling people that was the case. If people want to pay a ticket that was issued in error, they should do so, or donate the money to an orphanage.

Thank you for that Digger, I must say that I would not drive faster than 100 kmph between Huay Kaew road and Don Chan intersection. There are to many cars entering and exiting, but South of Don Chan it's like a race track for some.

You may be right, but that is what she was told. We will take the ticket to the place they told us to go, see what happens.

Got a letter from, I assume, the police. It said that I had been exceeding the speed limit, doing 110 kmh on the Super Highway. I only travel that road from Huay Kaew to 121 so the camera had to be in that area. My wife said that the speed limit is not 110Kmh, it's 120. She called, the person on the other end said to bring the ticket in and it would be cancelled. I wonder how many others, just like me, were willing to just walk in and pay, as I would have done

I miss the young people as well. In 2005 I lived inside the old city, in the evenings there were always groups of late teens, early 20s explorers wandering in a quest for something different. One night I was in a bar and a group of them were talking about a new pork restaurant, decided to go, and invited a few of us older folks along. Enthusiasm, generosity of spirit, not in the least concerned with a bottom line. A great time to be in Chiang Mai for young and old.

Last time I was in Canada I visited the city I lived in for 35 years, there were many roundabouts, two were consecutive. I was driving, my brother in law asked me where I was going, damned if I know I said. I'm sure they work, I'm equally sure I want nothing to do with them lol.

Sold 2 homes, and the only thing making a 'profit' was the appreciation of the land they sat on. Brick & mortar part, simply breaking even on that part of the ROI, and the land was the money maker. Not very interested in buying someone else's dream home. Find land in a good location, with a good view and a reasonable price. My Thai wife was interested in buying some land, we looked at many locations in our area and purchased a reasonably priced property, with a stunning view outside Chiang Mai for 400,000 baht about ten year ago. she has had offers of 2,000,000 baht for it. Unfortunately, you have to be willing to sell at the right price. She wants to keep it. For what, we will never build on it, sell and buy a revenue property I say.
