However, being organised enough to 'go through the process of card in machine' is already a step away from the 'degree of autopilot' that results in one leaving the card in the ATM.
I don't think this issue is a loss of mental acuity from the Op... It has much more to do with being relaxed, on low alert and functioning on autopilot with complacency.
Early on in adult-hood I developed a very simple rule of 3 that covers most options.
Using and ATM: 123
1) Card in
2) Cash
3) Card out
... I get into that habit of one two three and mentally state the number at the point of action.
Parking the Car:
1) Keys
2) Lock
3) Location
The same applies to being at home:
I only ever leave things in one of 3 places and make that a habit.
The one issue I did have... was for getting my keys...
I used to go through the 1,2,3 before going out..
1) Wallet
2) Phone
3) Keys
But then I'd forget the Wife !... Seriously though, I forgot to take out my keys on a number of occasions and for some reason house keys became a weak link. A couple of times I nearly had to get a hotel because I was back late, wife was fast asleep and I can't get in.
The 1,2,3 thing didn't work with keys because I was usually taking more than 3 things with me... Wine, football kit, etc.
Simple solution there was to go to switch to locks....
Its the same when leaving a bar or restaurant etc... doing the 'pocket pat down' to make sure I still have my Wallet with me.
Making behavior a habit so we don't forget things helps a lot... I'm trying to pass this over to my Son...
Wife is already a lost cause and is outrageously forgetful. If the AC remote is lost, the first place I go to look is the freezer !!
Any chance you could teach the natives: mirror, signal manoeuvre ?

I use cardless ATM and on several occasions have been found waiting for the card to re-appear !
I get easily distracted by the pretty thing working at Dunkin Donuts.

Why would you deny it?
Nearly every store has CCTV, you are going to be captured on video.
It is the ingrained Thai way, deny until no longer possible, then change the narrative and finally invent a counter claim.

Guess the Chinese chap didn't believe the Thai guy was her brother after all .

Perhaps they should have said they were only reporting the crime in the interest of preserving the integrity of the Kingdom.
Seems "in vogue" at present.

I hope you mean that the Russian woman was a jerk, not the Thai shopkeeper
Yes, of course. The shopkeeper merely playing the social media card.

Interesting that the language of the article portrays them as naughty boys rather than disrespectful vandals who engaged in a pre meditated action designed to cause offence and anger and get them noticed. They initially bought the spray paint then chose a target then posted a video of their actions
Yeah, just a couple of jerks seeking a cheap kick on their social media. not unlike the Thai shopkeeper who was "assaulted" by the Russian idiot.

I think it's because it's a major commitment/career path which men are more happy to follow than women .Harder for her to pursue that path if she wants a family etc, although more are seemingly taking up the challenge given better equal opportunity and changing family/social values .

The opposite is true. Skills matter more with 250 passengers. If a F1 driver dies it is 1 person.
Pilots should have the best skills.

Because flying is a sport. That's why there are few females in it. Men are superior at sport than women.
Amazing you don't know this.
Commercial flying is anything but a sport.

Meanwhile South Korea has found themselves again in the position of needing to offer an amnesty for Thais overstaying/working illegally.

All the schoolkids and most family members here in Ubon seem to have/had it. Very persistent and hard to shrug off. Never sure which (if any) medication is best. especially for the children. as the clinics seem to want to administer injections every time !

We always believed in the old adage "there's no pockets in shrouds" or "he who dies with the most toys wins"

Perhaps she thought she had no other options if she sought refuge in a temple rather than family ?
