I got a call from a neighbor of mine today telling me that the police and municipality officials had stopped by. Apparently they stopped by another neighbors who is related to my landlord and runs the local tambone office. I'm really quite surprised because all my paperwork is right up to date work permit visa extension etc. Actually I was just picking up my new extended work permit at the labor board and wasn't home. I guess my question is, is this normal? I can understand immigration officials looking for me especially with the latest crackdowns and such but the police and municipality people? My address is the same as its been for two years and I did my most recent 90-day report just a month ago. Should I be showing any of my paperwork to the police and municipality or is that just for the immigration people?

I have a Thai friend visiting Singapore and he was stamped in on the 18th of June and he wants to fly out on the 18th of July I counted and it is 31 days including the 18th of June. Do they have that 1 free day overstay rule same as at swampy? Thx
-
You could also apply for a multi re-entry permit if they only give you a single entry 90 day B once you return to Thailand at immigration and you have your work permit and are getting your visa extension, 3900 baht, or get single entry permits for 1000baht, tho this will fill up your passport pages.
-
I live near Mae Sai, it operates like any legit border crossing.
The two posters asking about activating the second entry can just come on down. Bring your 500 baht for your Myanmar day entry stamp, and return to Thailand to activate your second entry.
The original post is about a totally different animal. Border closes at 9pm now.

You cannot run multiple antivirus programs. I suggest Kaspersky AntiVirus. About $30 a year for multi year multi machine license. AVG if your unwilling to buy..you get what you pay for. Malwarebytes for cleaner. Forget any program that screws with your registry or promises a speedier PC. I know what I'm talking about.

Near Chatchuchuk and the northern bus terminal there is a huge amount of land flattened and under heavy construction, anyone know what's being developed in this area?

Thx everyone, Apex was full and the Ice Inn room was on the 4th *UGH* floor, booked it anyway... 670baht

I think near around soi 10 on 2nd road. Its not too far from beach and walking street etc.

Hey locals, anyone recommend a reasonable nice place at a reasonable price. Not looking for fancy, just clean, well kept and not too noisy. I've had good experience at Ice Inn at about 670 baht high season rate, 520 baht low season. WiFi would be nice. Thx for your input.
While we are at it, how much/how to get to Koh Lan? What are accommodation prices there right now?

Kononi, you can fly from Chiang Mai to Udon cheap, and go to the Thai consulate in Vientiane. Flight leaves at 6am ish, I have made it to the consulate before 11:30am catching a taxi to bus depot #1, bus to near border, Tuk Tuk to border, and private taxi in Laos direct to consulate.

No kidding difficult, considering at all the documents my landlord supplied.

OK, so the contract can be for a month and not cover the 1 year of my extension. I was under the impression I'd have to commit to a year at this address.

Stopped by immigration today in Mae Sai, as I just got paperwork from my landlord and wanted to be sure it was in order before I return for my non B extension request. I had signed copies of my landlords ID, his book house, the book house where I'm renting, and an immigration form with his particulars and a small mention of the property I'm renting.
The officer said I'd also need a rental contract, is this really necessary?
I've lived there for a year already and although I dont have plans to move, I don't want to feel like I'm obligated to stay there as it is a month to month rental. I'd submit and sign the contract if I could notarize that its not legally binding on my staying at this residence.
Comments and such please.

I've been on an AIS 1-2call promo plan all year, initially they said only 3months max, but they keep extending it each month. 799 + tax for 12GB + AIS WIFI. They say its a 4GB plan with 8gb free, ..whatever...Ive never used it all. I think the throttle down speed is 256Kb

I agree checkpoints are only looking for illegals from neighboring countries and drug runners, as well since your heading north your likely waved through without a glance, as most 90% of the action is taken on vehicles headed inland/south. Your license isn't valid without an IDP. That said these checkpoints don't ask to see ID's from farang. You'll be waved through 95% of the time.

This certainly isn't anything akin to laundering money.
Laundering of cash money is illegalThread hijacking attempt. I'm Canadian, I'm looking to sell some CDN $ that i have back in Canada to someone who wants to trade for Thai baht. Anywhere from 100-150,000 baht. So if you know any Thais that are planning on visiting Canada that need dollars, or anyone in a scenario that wants dollars for baht, please contact me. Thx

I'd be leary about a Pattaya rental, unless you know bikes well and can inspect its road worthiness. Bikes can be had in BKK, your not looking hard enough.
-
I drove my 125 MIO from Mae Sai to Chiang Khong, Chiang Kham, Nan, Uttradit, Phitsanulok, and finally Phichit. 4-5 days. Threw it in my friends pickup in Phichit, drove to BKK, pissed around BKK for a week, shipped it on the overnight train along with myself to Chiang Mai, and drove the final 200km back to Mae Sai, Chiang Rai. Shipping the bike cost 80 baht more than my air-con sleeper berth.

Stay off the main highways, use secondary highways/roads don't let your mind wander for a millisecond, anything can happen at the worst moment, keep your gas tank full, sun visor and full face shield, dress with pants and long sleeves, leave early morning and arrive at destination early afternoon, plan for 200 km a day max, usually speed ends up being 60-70kmh or less. Whereabouts you planning on touring from and to?

Thanks everyone, seems like one or two border runs won't be much of an issue.
Just found out the police and municipality officials were looking for me
