  1. As in the subject, and hopefully in the correct forum. My Laos friend from Vientiane who has a Laos passport is planning to visit Thailand, traveling to the north from the northeast. I understand they are ASEAN exempt and can enter for 30 days without a visa, and travel anywhere in Thailand.. correct?

At the 30 days duration can they pop across to Tachilek, Myanmar and back for another 30 days, or say to Huai Xing, Laos from Chiang Khong and back? Or would a Thai visa be needed?

  2. Mae Sai immigration told me I would need a non B, they also told me they cannot convert a non O to B, is this conversion possible at Chaeng Wattana, or must I go to an embassy outside Thailand and apply for a Non B? If I must apply outside what paperwork is required BT Vientiane? Passport, photos, visa application and job offer from school..or do they also require all the school documents such as what the labor dept required? Signed copies OK? Anyone have a working phone number for the Vientiane embassy? The one I have just rings with no answer.

  3. I have a 1yr Non O multi entry visa expiring Nov 21, based on NGO volunteer, I have been offered a volunteer position for a year at a government school. The school director accompanied me to the Labor dept to request a work permit where the officer said I must change my visa to Non B before he issues work permit. Can I change visa type at immigration here in Chiang Rai or must I leave the country and apply at Vientiane? I have not exited the country for my final 90 day on this existing visa before it expires.

  4. My non O expires in mid November, the day before it expires I plan to exit and re-enter extending my stay for a further 90 days.

I'm volunteering at a gov school, and we have been talking about me staying throughout next years school terms.

So I'm looking at extending my current visa (I guess), 1st question, do I request the extension before the November expiry date, or during the 90 days I have on my final entry?

As it stands I'm not sure if the school will make a volunteer request for extension or a work permit request. Can the school sponsor/request the extension based on volunteering? The school is not the organization that requested my current visa. Thx

  5. $1400 is not a bad price for a return ticket.

Your really asking for trouble stating you intend to work entering on a tourist visa.

Bangkok is expensive, your money will run out likely before the new year. Consider the price of your ticket $1400, passport $100?, dual entry visa $80, 2 extensions $65 each, entry visa into adjacent country + transportation $65, Thai girlfriend $pricele$$.

  6. Hi

Currently I'm studying and volunteering on occasion teaching in a public school in Thailand on a multi entry non O visa.

    My visa expires next year.

The school has hinted they would like me to work part time (about 70%) next year for two terms. I am interested in visiting countries bordering Thailand during that time. My question is would acquiring a work permit restrict me from re-entering Thailand regularly as I explore nearby countries? Furthermore should/would my current visa be extended, and if so, does the multi entry status continue as well? Is the non O visa OK to extend coupled with a work permit, or would I be required to get a non B?

    Thx.

  8. I did a day trip into Tachilek last week on my bike. Two copies of passport and my green book + green book in hand. Shuffle back and forth between customs window and immigration. Received two copy's of papers that had to be presented upon return. Drove off across the bridge, paid 500baht to Myanmar immigration, got stamped in and kept my passport (usually day trips they give you temp passport document and hold your passport). Returned at 6pm..handed my papers to Thai customs..the only cost was 12baht for the 4 copies mentioned earlier.

  9. I live 30 meters from the BKK incident. Altho the shooting happened near Soi 25 the incident started at Soi 10, where the residents of Soi 10 where clustered at the beginning of the soi. Basically it was soi 10 mafia squaring off against soi 12 mafia. They fought at the soi then chased the man down on motorcycles. An AK47, a 9mm and a machine pistol were used. The street was littered with shell casings and I even saw a live 9mm shell. They partied hard and aggressively all three days at the soi entrance. Lots of young kids barely 10 yrs old with experience well beyond their years.

I was meters from the soi for most of the last 2 days. I felt like having a rest at 6pm so I went home. Lo and behold within the hour the situation occurred. I thank full my Lord led me away from this impending encounter.

Last year a young girl 14 was killed by a stray bullet in soi 29. Sad and stupid alcohol fueled bravado for some.
