Recommend that you use Windows 10 + Windows Defender + Windows Firewall. Then add WFC (Windows Firewall Control, recently acquired by MalwareBytes). This makes Windows Firewall more user-friendly like the paid firewalls, without compromising the firewall itself. You want to turn on notifications for all unapproved requests. This gives you full control over all outgoing connections.
Agree with @kebabby Have had several computers, including servers, and if secured properly and you don't go clicking/downloading every flashy thing presented, install specific programs from sensible developers, you should never get a virus. No antivirus installed since Win2k. And windows defender disabled. Just windows firewall and for home computers, WFC with full notifications installed. Denying all programs that don't have a legitimate need to connect to internet.
For the Thai user (or any computer where you will have random people using it), just leave on Windows Defender + Firewall with default settings and they should be fine 99% of the time (Windows 10).

- how do you prove you have covid-19 cover? Did you use a "recommended" insurance cover, or your own private insurance policy?
- where did you fly from (city, country or airport name)? And what was approximate price of airfare? one way, or R/T?
- How much was quarantine? What were you allowed to do while in quarantine?
what kind of food were you able to access?
- After quarantine is over, anything else required? Or are you "free to go".

Also, i forgot to tell OP to check Advice shop first. Although they are normally 1.5-2.5x the price of lazada sellers. But at least you can take it to someone local if it defects within warranty period.

Wasn't sure which subforum was best since this affects more than just Chumphon.
All learning institutions under the supervision of Ministry of Education (MoE), formal or not, are apparently under an urgent order from MoE to remain closed until at least end of Jan, 2021.

Seems to have gone away. I was able to login to google accounts that were previously showing "account does not exist"????
Not sure if the fix is permanent or there might be another wave. @webfact Will be interesting to hear what excuse google releases.

I was just going to post something here about not being able to login to google accounts.
Started as a youtube glitch, in which I deleted cookies and would need to login again. But then I could not login. accounts.google.com would say "account does not exist" So then I REALLY started to get nervous.
Both 3bb and myCat networks.
This is pretty big.

I have caught a couple of sellers pretending to be local and then taking like 8-10 days to ship the item. Clearly meaning they did not have item in stock. But you can get apology voucher from Lazada customer service if they are late sending out.
COD from Chinese or unfamiliar Thai sellers has not been a problem. From China, it usually takes 7-12 days to arrive. Logistics company will switch from Cainaio to Kerry or Flash once it leaves China or arrives in Thailand.

- What is the maximum topup amount?
- What is the maximum balance for your SIM topup balance
- do you have to use some sort of Tmobile app to do Wifi calling, send/receive SMS, etc with wifi internet?
- Do the wifi/sms features work if the sim card is not in the phone?

I've used CallCentric for a while, but it may be considered a VOIP number. Never really tested the SMS feature, but I should.

Immigration is not saying that you cannot continue to stay. Just that you cannot do it for free anymore. You must apply for 60 day covid-19 extensions. Letter from embassy apparently will not be necessary.

nothing should be happening to old hard drive. Put win10 LTSC on new SSD. Then with old HDD, you can copy files to new SSD.
You should also install programs fresh. Especially if the version of windows is changing.

covid-19 and the pandemic that it prompted caused a lot of disruption worldwide. There are a lot of visa/entry options pre-covid19 that are currently unavailable; this is outside of most of our control.

I know a guy that does hydroponic/aquaponic farming locally. I get muskmelons from him, and he also does tomatoes, lettuce, and occasionally watermelons. No dye injections or pesticides. But 1kg is like ฿60. There may be other places that are cheaper. Try to see if you can find a local farmer and buy direct. Or you can buy from someone you trust and have them ship it to your house.

Depending on the trust of the restaurant and how serious you are about ensuring the meal is meat-free, I would watch the food being distributed.
It's best to go to places that have dedicated vegan dishes or just 100% vegan. Or with a local restaurant that already knows your vegan preferences.
Of course going to a new restaurant and trying to assert your vegan preference can be interesting on the first or second go.

"Go to see an agent" is what I've read very often. But how serious and legal are these documents from an agent?
Use a proper one, which is usually from a law office. There are some trusted tour companies that may arrange one also.
Talk to other expats that you trust. See if they can point you in the right direction.

To be fair, the OP stated that this particular experiment didn't take into account "bigger expenses" such as rent, internet, insurance or health and medical costs. So it is interesting what you can do for a day without having to outlay too much.
But those "retire on 550 USD/month" websites/videos have been beaten to death. And TVF users did a lot of the beating. Would be interesting to see what $$ minimum budget the new Thailand retirement blogs are quoting now.
