My Wife tells me of some woman on Facebook bragging about her payment she received and was not entitled to.

So some people have actually received money already?   May I ask how long it took from application date until the money arrived in the bank account?

    ---------------

And yes, I agree with many other posters.   A lot of the very people who would need it the most are likely being disqualified.   Perhaps someone from the top could wave a wand and just push the payments through.   The money has already been earmarked.    So what could possibly disqualify these people?   are they making "too much" money?

    Things will start getting ugly.

I do not want to fresh install windows , I need to keep the files/apps I have and just want to duplicate/clone whats there, dont understand what could be wrong here, any ideas please ?

I suggest installing a fresh copy of windows 8.1pro/win10 pro (LTSC if possible).   Then hook up the old hard drive in the 2nd sata slot or using a sata 3 to usb 3 cable and copy the necessary files over.  Reinstall any necessary apps.

This will be a lot less stressful and still give you what you want.

So where are the eggs ? none in the shops markets or supermarkets in my town . Chickens gone on strike ?

Hens lay less eggs during hot/high humidity season.   Then you add in some panic buying and a shortage is imminent.   But it seems to depend on where.  Seems like pockets of farms are sold out.  But there may be places that stock eggs that still have them.

  5. Local Egg farm near Chumphon is out of stock.  Hot season + mild panic buying has them out of stock now as of a few hours ago.

Not sure about Makro/other places in Chumphon.  But the word is getting around though, and causing some locals to take eggstreme measures.

  6. While she is under 15 years old no overstay fees can be imposed.   So no worries there about overstay or blacklisting.   When the borders open up again, you can stamp her out on Canadian passport and on the next entry use her Thai passport to enter.

She was always a Thai citizen.  Just didn't have all of her paperwork yet.

I think others will have better explanation

I sent an email a several hours ago with full name as it appears on the current passport, date of birth, and passport # and they replied.   it was like 2-3 hour turnaround time.   I assume they do it in batches.

I will try the local immigration later this week or early next week and see what happens.  I'll aim for the 60 day extension for visiting Thai family.

I didn't need this letter at all to get the 60 day extension of stay for visiting Thai family.   Totally different category of extension.

But good to know the US Embassy provided quick turnaround time and didnt have any ridiculous restrictions on who they would issue the letter to.

    Visa exempt tourist entry thing.

    Expires on 28th.

I emailed and applied for the support letter for 30 day extension. Haven't received a reply yet. So I will have to wait, and go to immigration in Monday. My visa will already be expired by that time.

Visa Exempt you can just go and apply for 30 day extension without the letter.  At least the first time for that entry. You already qualify for that without having to do anything extra (except pay 1900 baht + passport photo).

Same is true for tourist visa entry.

not true for non-immigrant entry.  You will normally get 7 days extension, unless you have a specific reason to qualify for a longer period (visiting thai family, employment, education, etc).

or if you already did a 30 day extension for VE / TV entry.  This is where the emergency letter from is handy.

    Am I correct @ubonjoe

agree, it's done every single day and more then once or twice.... drastic situations call for drastic decisions/actions

I think all of these observations make a good point. The signature to certify the document copy could be easily gotten by your ex-wife or someone authorized to sign on the ex-wife's behalf.   Hopefully when you calm down, you will be able to obtain the necessary signature.

Let us know how it works out ????

I believe if the child was born out of wedlock, then yes, if applying for a 60 extension based on child, not wife, you would need to be legitimized as the father.

I dont think its easy as the marriage one, i think you have to be legitamized as the farther of the child, which takes a long time to sort out. Unless its all changed.

If the kid is old enough to be interviewed and if the mother complies it is simple to do at the registry office. Took us an afteroon.

It's just about as easy as the marriage one.  And in my case (and some others I've talked to), no legitimization was necessary.  At least for the 60 day one.

In my case the local immigration office requested some letter from the school showing my name (in English), mother's name, and everything else was in Thai.  And I believe this was because he was over 7 years old, but without an ID card.     I was concerned that school was out during this Corona virus, and what could have been a country-wide lockdown. Turns out the teacher was contacted by the mother that day and the letter was ready the same day or the next day.

Mother was not present for the immigration interview.  But my son was.  And it was 1 minute interview.  He was asked if he could speak Thai, what school he went to, and what grade he was in.   Everyone smiled and then I completed the application.

  11. got it done.

    • application to extend the stay, 60 day request for visiting Thai family
    • 1 passport photo glued to the application page (they provide the stik glue)
    • copy of passport bio page
    • copy of entry stamp page (think tm.6 was also copied also on the same page.  I didn't have it; they copied it for free and made me sign it)
    • copy of birth certificate (showed original)
    • copy of mom's id card
    • copy of tambien baan for mom and child
    • copy of old lease agreement in mom's name (I just advised I was staying with her or a friends house)
    • present kid in person
    • original of elementary school "attendance letter"  (over the age of 7, without ID card) [local office request]

also made to sign notification of overstay consequences, and another disclaimer-type of document for reason for extension changes.

I did NOT show the Embassy emergency letter, nor did I need it.  I brought 3 copies of everything but you just needed one.   Overall the Chumphon office was not so busy.  Good luck getting through via phone.   Best to have someone go inside and request information or chat on phone if you want to avoid 2 trips.   I ended up making a second trip to get the school attendance letter and take son in with me (first time the corona virus scared the mother).

You complete the app and hand over the docs with 1900 baht.  waited about 20-30 minutes.   Then I was called to the desk and made to take a photo with immigration computer (similar to the border immigration office).  Then they give you your passport and a receipt(!?!).  I double-checked the stamp and then i'm off.

A receipt???????? Am I in the correct office?   But honestly the experience wasn't as unpleasant as I imagined.   I remember helping someone else a couple of years ago with a 1 year retirement extension....different staff....express fees boldly asked for, etc.

    --------------------

FYI:  Initially before I mentioned extending to visit family, she saw non-immigrant O and suggested that I could only get 7 day extension.   It's almost like they have no idea what is going on with the Corona situation + borders being locked down.   But that's a different discussion I guess.

The question was are they working today

The signs on the ATMs from yesterday were removed.  They were already working from yesterday afternoon around 15:30 or so.    And the mobile app was working shortly after that.

But yesterday there was a problem with their mobile app.  Internet banking via full desktop browser page allowed you to login and check some things.  But interbank transfers turned up an error that they were unavailable.   ATMs were down also.

    Other banks were working fine.

And I was able to go into the branch to withdrawal with passport and passbook.   I cannot remember the last time I did that, lol.   So used to doing everything at ATM / CDM / mobile/internet banking.

This bank is no longer worthy of my trust.

Is that to say that no other major Thai bank could have found themselves in a similar position?

It was an inconvenience.  But not insurmountable.    It could have happened to any Thai bank or any bank really.    It's pretty rare for the error to be such that the atm card could not be used at a 3rd party bank.

The best option would be to have bank accts with at least 2-3 different Thai banks.   You have a primary bank you use most often, but then a backup/secondary bank to cover the things the primary bank cant/doesn't do or do well.

  13. Sheltering in place is often the best strategy.

Or put another way, what advantage would you have if you left?   And what would you return to when you got back home?

Keeping a few hundred cash isn't a bad idea if you do not have Cambo bank acct.   Even if you did, some cash on hand could help.  Maybe prepay your rent for the next 1-2 months.  pay extra on the utility bills if possible.   Then the remaining cash can be focused only on "situational" purchases.

  14. @theVenerable you can now get the letter from British embassy.

They have specific emails setup for you to apply.  I would advise to do so and then head to your local immigration office and request 30 day extension of stay for covid-19.

BTW, not sure if you mentioned what type of entry you were on now.   What type of visa did you last enter on? when does the permission to stay expire?

  15. Currently on a ME non-O with an entry that will expire in about a week.  Borders are currently closed for border runs from Covid-19 situation.

Wanted to know the documentation + monetary requirements to apply for extension of stay for visiting Thai family for 60 days (not the 1 year extension).   Not married, but have 1/2 Thai son and on amicable terms with mother.

I will be going to the Chumphon immigration.   So any local/regional specifics is also appreciated.

Mother may not be able to come, but can get copies of her ID, etc.  Son will likely be coming with me.  (is it a requirement that family member(s) come??)

You can pay with any bank app

I agree.  Try using different Thai banking apps to scan and pay the bill.   (it might not work with one bank, but might work with 2nd bank).

So you can do an initial scan to see if the bills can be paid.  If they show up as payable after scanning, then you know you can pay them.

But there may be a limit on how long it takes to pay.   Like the water bill if you miss the deadline after a few days, the scan will come up as "this bill is no longer payable with this method.  Please contact the biller customer service".   Basically meaning you have to go to the office to pay.
