  1. How does one prove that they are a genuine tourist?

I would imagine that someone who has entered Thailand never before or just a few times they would be safe. but those seasoned falang who have many many tourist stamps would need to show some evidence such as hotel booking etc..

I agree with the clampdown, I have worked in Thailand legally for 30 years and have seen forigners on touist visas with no work permit setting up shop and damaging my industry by suppling cheap and bad quality services.

  2. It's when the human race master the alteration of space-time, is when things get really interesting.

At the speed that such sciences are developing it may not be that far away (hundreds of years rather than 1000's).

Consider that the first person to walk on the moon could have met the first human ever to fly, as they were both alive at the same time. That is the speed of our development.

When time-space can be bent and altered, in 200, 1,000 or 5,000 years (my bet is for less than 1000) then what is out there will be seen and explored. Until then, the physical exploration using space craft won't be able to get us too far away from home, to Mars and possibly the moons of the gas giants, and that is it.

its "the space-time continuum" but here is why you are wrong in thinking its ever going to work :

view time as a dimension or a simple human construct to make sense of entropy/energy transfers and their rates, the conclusion will vary, one allows for time travel (if its a dimension you can supposedly move either way) if it is an illusion of the mind there is nothing you can do aside from slowing down or speeding up natural processes which is quite different from the idea of time travel.

The clocks differences and time dilations all can be explained by difference in rates of decay/energy transfer, and if that is the case then again, calling something going really fast time travel then you have to call your fridge a time travel machine, same principle (slowing down processes) different means (removing energy vs gravitational effects on matter)

  3. I think we all know the galaxy is teaming with life.

It would be extremely arrogant to assume we are the only life in the galaxy.

Probably some alien civilizations much farther advanced than humans on account they could have been around for tens if not hundreds of millions of years longer.

Our own race is in its infancy, just a few million years in development, and look at what we have achieved, especially in the last 150 years alone. Our own development is accelerating at a breakneck speed.... Imagine how advanced an alien race could be if it has been around on an earth like planet for say 150 million years.

Chances are, they will come visit us before we visit them.

I believe the nearest star with the possibility of an earth like planet is 25 trillion miles away.

I dont think its arrogant to think we "might" be the only life in the universe its perfectly possible it was a one off occorance. when you look at the coincidences involved just in the very first aperance of life, that very chance mix of amino acids and some sort of trigger at the same time the ods are staggering, and the conditions for alowing such life to start up in the first place must be extreemly rare as well.

There has been no confirmed evidence whatsoever of life outside our planet. and its quite possible we are completely unique.

Structurally complex and intelligent life evolved relatively late on Earth, and in looking at the probability of the difficult and critical evolutionary steps that occurred in relation to the life span of Earth, A limit to evolution is the habitability of Earth, and any other Earth-like planets, which will end as the sun brightens. Solar models predict that the brightness of the sun is increasing, while temperature models suggest that because of this the future life span of Earth will be “only” about another billion years, a short time compared to the four billion years since life first appeared on the planet.

Sorry to be such a pessamist but you have to study the facts and then the theory of a universe teaming with inteligent life does not hold up.

  4. The goverment should "dictate' that smoking should be made ilegal, that would solve the stinking problem. or do they enjoy the tax revenue too much?

40 baht a pack for local brand, 90 baht for international brands, I can't see a whole lot of tax revenue there.

Thailand’s main taxation on cigarettes is excise tax. Since 1992, the excise tax on cigarettes was increased on ten occasions, from 55% in 1992 to 85% in 2009. This created large amount of government income, from 15,438 million Baht in 1992 up to 41,823 million Baht ( 1,228 million USD) in 2007.The current excise tax rate on cigarettes is an ad valorem rate at 85%of ex-factory price which accounted for 71% of the retail price. An attractive feature of the tax regime is its single rate applied to both locally produced and imported cigarettes.

  5. At least he is not smilling like a cheshire cat as a Thai would do in his situation.

I blame the fairground atmosphere of Pattaya, it gives these tourists the wrong impression that they are welcome to try and do anything without repercussions, unfortunatly for him he will loose his holiday money and will probably be on the phone to his dad to send more cash to get him out of the can.

  6. I think if you took a look at the chassis, it will be one of these 'stitched together' dubious imports. Quite common to cut them in half and re-weld them in chop shops to avoid lots of cost. MLM, he nearly became a bit multi leveled himself, car, body, amulet, car.

    Oz

Lamborghini and Ferrari are projected like that for save the life of the driver and passenger. that's why he walk away uninjured from a crash like that, if he crash on a tree at 150 kph on any other car he would be death now

Really? I put a Volkswagen GTI into a concrete wall at 80mph (128 kph) and I'm still around. That was almost 20 years ago when cars were far less safe than they are today.

So your amulet must have been working well? cheesy.gifclap2.gif

  7. The rear of the car breaking off in this type of impact is something Lamborghini have designed into the sructure for safety, the heaviest part of the car "engine with transaxle" is desigend to part company as to avoid more severe kinetic damage.

The unusually rich man should thank the brilliant engineers at Lamborghini for saving his life, not some stupid bit of metal around his neck!!

He may or may not have a battle with the insurance company as he has admitted driving 30Kph above the speed limit in bad conditions, hopfully the police will prosocute him for dangerous driving which will affect his claim.

I feel sory for the Lambo, and not at all for Mr Rich <deleted> Pitak Veangsima.

  8. ANy fix should be about safety, even the "father" of todays electricity system regrets he promoted a 2 wire system of supply to be the national standard

What is a 2 wire system?

I thought Thailand is on a standard 3 Phase system that uses a comon return netral (polyphase system)

The problems Thailand experiences is due to the usage of lower cost (to insatal) overhead system, whereas in cities and towns in the non 3rd world contries is underground,

Almost all countries must keep the HT 765,000 volt power station lines on large overhead power line pilons because of heat on those lines must be alowed to escape.

  9. At first I missed the word "trial" and found the headline rather special..... I.e. one wonders what the outcome was.

I am very concerned about these attempts to modify nature. Why not simple cross bananas the old fashion way to get the desired results? Takes a bit longer, but is probably safer.

The old way has been happening for thousands of years, cross breeding, selective breeding etc... GmM just takes waway the pot luck and long waiting times.

I personally think its great and cant wait for GM to be acepted generally. Most people who are against it are the ones who have not read up on the subject.

  10. I beleive heroin is very expensive but that wont stop the adicts, the only outcome will be an increase in crime when the tobacco junkies cant earn enough money for the adiction they will simply turn to crime to support the cravings.

Simplest way is to ban tobacco completely dont produce it dont import it dont allow it. also show tobacco junkies in ads on tv to put people off.

  11. the Daily Mirror, which said it had hired "audio forensic experts" to analyse the clip it had obtained.

Unbelievable that these days audio forensic experts are hired to find something to destroy someones career.

Isn't such a practice racist on itself?

    No....no it isn't

    Yes it is (nt)

But its a huge abuse against freedom of speach

Language its self will be banned and we will need to resort back to pre cave man noises, ah. mmm, oooor, grrr, ah!
