  1. OK, so not me being stupid you can not transfer out of a fixed deposit account using the Bangkok bank website. Thanks for the confirmation. My interest is always added to the fixed deposit account when it renews. Yes, I could phone them but I do not like phoning Thai call centres (actually any call centre) and also suspect it can not be done by phone either.
  2. Is is possible to transfer money from a Bangkok Bank Fixed deposit account to another Bangkok Bank savings account using their website? I want to transfer the interest earned this year into my savings account but can not find anyway to do it on the website. As I'm in the UK I can not go to the branch, difficult to phone them and I can not make the app work. Only their website is available to me.
  3. To avoid edge opening all the time try installing msEdgeRedirect. Every time something tries to open in edge it instead opens in your default browser. Now you do not have to uninstall edge, it is, instead, just ignored.
  4. I can not make the face recognition work either, thought it was my beard as it always says it can not see my chin.
  5. Don't forget if you want to go to the EU the passport must be less than 10years old from date of issue. So if, like me, you renewed 9 months early and have to have 6 months of validity for the EU then you have to renew 15 months before your passport expires
  6. Thanks KhunBENQ - With KrungThai I can not register for online banking with the mobile app - and they have closed their web based internet banking. Bankgok bank says turn off WiFi, but using mobile data they can not recognize my phone number. Probably because I use an eSIM that does not have a phone number and goes via HongKong or else I use my UK data. I don't have data in Thailand as I never need it, except (it seems) for BKK bank app. At least their web based banking still works.
  7. Has anyone with a beard managed to register for online banking when photo recognition is required? With KrungThai I get nothing but "Can't see your chin" and "Can't see your mouth". I assume the problem is the beard. Since KTB do not have a website to do banking and I can not get their app to work I plan on closing the account. Except that will take too long in the bank so I'll just run the account down to B10 and they can close it for me.
  8. Maybe because I am too old but at 108 Clinic I had to see a doctor and that took a little over 1 hour and cost B300 for the Dr and B60 for the certificate. But do love their self service blood pressure machines - better than anything I have seen elsewhere.
  9. Recently notice a change booking train tickets CNX to BKK. The 18:00 express can be booked up to 90 days ahead, all the rest of the trains just 30 days as before.
  10. I knew I had see it somewhere. I'm renewing an expired 5 year to 5 year licence. Just need the medical certificate now, found out that Suan Dok will do one at the 108 clinic. Don't know the price yet.
  11. Klaimor hospital on Hang Dong road is good for the medical certificate but inconvenient for me. Is there any hospital in T. Suthep that is as easy and as cheap to use? Suan Dok probably does but it is such a warren it's probably quicker to go to Klaimor! Also, can anyone confirm that Foreigners do not need an appointment at Hang Dong?
  12. 12 month fixed deposit always works for me - but other periods are not allowed for some reason.
  13. Stay with Quicken - only problem in Windows 10 is that the window opens blank, you have to change the window size to see all the details. Quicken works in multiple currencies, nothing else I tried does that satisfactorily. If Microsoft finally breaks quicken it will work on a Virtual machine - there are at least 2 that are free and you can install WinXP and everything works fine.
  14. Thanks for the replies, just as I thought you have to be very naughty to get refused an "Under Consideration". But it is interesting that the procedure does check and you can be refuse.
  15. Having just got an "under consideration" for a visa conversion I started wondering. Does "Under Consideration" ever get refused?
  16. Just as a reminder for some people: Done a visa conversion, visa free entry to Non O, you must have two copies of everything, that is: Passport photo page Last entry stamp Yellow "tabian Ban" Book or rental agreement etc Letter from the bank Bank statement (if money is new to the country) Completed form TM87 (And photo, forgot mine!) TM30 Arrived about 2pm, left around 4pm. Under consideration to return exactly 21 days later in the afternoon.
  17. Once paid 6p for a flight Liverpool to Dublin and return for 3 of us on Ryanair. Except for £17 parking paid nothing else. Luck of the draw.
  18. I'm following the same route. My wife was my dependent on my retirement visa. To do the same again I am told that we must get a visa before entering Thailand. This visa can (maybe) have my wife as dependant but it seems this visa will be a non-OA and will need medical insurance. Difficult at my age. Doing a visa conversion from a visa free entry, or a tourist visa, in country and you can not have your wife as a dependent. You have to get a retirement visa each, I.e. you both have the 800,000 baht in the bank on the day of applying for a conversion to a non-O visa. And your wife must transfer the money from her account to her sole account in Thailand . No joint accounts. I'm ok for myself as I have the 800K in my account. Appears my wife will have to transfer to her account in Thailand, luckily we had opened such an account before covid. I might be wrong but I have been following things for the last year. One thing has changed. If you enter on a visa free 30 day entry and you must get to immigration with 21 days remaining that is a rush. But immigration will give you a 30 day extension on your visa free entry, so you have 38 days to sort things things out and still apply with 21 days left on your stay.
  19. English is a horrid language, 30 day visa free entry - able to enter the country without a visa 30 day free visa entry - has a visa that cost nothing So similar wording but meaning such different things. Sorry for any confusion.
  20. Thanks for the information, Yes I still have my 800,000 Baht, unfortunately my wife was on a dependence visa that appears to be impossible to do in the country so she'll have to have her own 800K. Covid has a lot o answer for ..........
  21. I'll be arriving in Chiang Mai on a 30 day visa free entry that I want to change as soon as possible to a Non-O visa due to retirement. Can I make a booking with Chiang Mai immigration or do I just have to turn up and queue? I can see the option for retirement purpose but not for change of Visa
  22. Just pre Covid the train did not cross the Malaysian border, I think Malaysia has upgraded their track to standard gauge and Thailand is still narrow gauge. We have to get the Thailand train to the border (book your tickets), go through emigration and immigration on the platform and wait for the Malaysian train buying the ticket in the station. They run quite frequently. Seat61.com is a fabulous site and very up to date
  23. Buick, very useful clarification. I'm looking for a late January renewal date, then I can go to Chiang Mai Immigration on the 25th December - I believe that date is always very quiet for some reason?
  24. Thanks, nothing much has changed. Now I must work out my dates carefully.
  25. I want to resurrect my retirement visa but also want to ensure my renewal date is sometime January to March, so a couple of questions. If I arrive on a visa exempt 30 day visa and then apply for a change of visa to non-O what date does the non-O start the date I arrived originally, the date the non-O is granted or the date my 30 day exemption finishes? (i.e. I arrive on the 1st November and get 30 days on arrival, apply for my non-O on the 4th November, it is approved on the 25th November, when does the 90 days of my Non-O start? 1st, 4th, 25th or 30th November.) Then I have my Non-O valid for 90 days. I apply for the 1 year extension 30 days before it expires. Does that extension run from the start or the end of my 90 day non-O visa? It used to run from the day your 90 days ran out, but I remember reading that this might have changed some time in the past. Finally a supplementary. My wife is not Thai and always had a dependents extension, meaning we had to have a marriage licence but the financial side (800,000 Baht etc.) did not apply to her application. My wife reads that this has been changed and she now has to have the money in the bank. Is she correct or can she still be my dependant? Thanks.
