This is a good example of the crazy laws here. How is it possible that a minor charge like trespass can be four years in jail, while a physical assault can be bought off. I may be wrong, please tell me if I am, but even now after more than 3 decades here I still believe the laws are geared towards the rich and influential at the expense of the common man.

You are wrong to even suggest that you are wrong.

  2. The "journalist" to whom this article is accredited, Puntid Tantivangphaisal, seems to be unaware of the concept of "innocent until  proven guilty".   Is this a direct attack on AI, which it is conceivable though unjustified if no alternative is offered, or a desperate attempt by the state's religion to defend its role in indoctrinating its views on how Thailand should develop.   But then, over the millenniums, all states have used religion to maintain control.

  3. Way back in the last millennium, it was raised to Baht 800 (though I remember not from what).   (Forget all the "adjustments" about it needing to be in the account for month and months.   Those rules came in as groups of farang passed around the same 800.)

At the time it was raised to Baht 800 the grandfather rule applied, i.e. the new amount only applied to those taking a retirement visa for the first time.   For the rest they stayed on the old amount.   Allegedly some needed just 100 though it is doubtful that any of those guys are still breathing.

What do you think of the chances of Immigration applying that rule this time ?

  4. May be the lady would care to do a TikTok display with the pertinent facts or, as I would assume, just the one fact.   If she bothers to read her bill. she will see that it tells her how many units her meter has recorded as supplying her with during the month.   She will also see that the bill tells her how many units she has been billed for in each of the previous six months.

Ours has gone from 1,700 to 2,400.   It's the weather.

  5. If you look at all the new concrete structures in Bangkok, (road junctions, sky train, buildings), it is not surprising that the capital is sinking.

Far too late now but, if a couple of decades ago, they had invested a decent public transport system and brought in a tax or toll system for private vehicles, not only would they have not contributed to the sinking rate but also decreased Thailand's contribution to global warming.

Traffic congestion would be reduced and less production of cement (which is a significant pollutant) necessary.

  6. So Thailand do not give a damn about any other sovereign state's right to exist independently.   As usual we will simply lie our way around the problem.

If Thailand did cease trading with Russia, the country's current trade surplus would increase by over $1+billion as they export less than $1 billion to Russia and import over $2billion.   And then we would get even less Baht for our US$/EU/GBP/A$/what have you.

The reason for the outbreak is pretty clear

    1. Opening borders and Pattaya to foreign tourists without opening up enough venues to support them which created mass overcrowding in a very compact area of Pattaya that was clearly not equiped to handle the numbers

    2. Telling foreign tourists that Thailand (Pattaya) was open when it clearly wasn't (see above), as I said before - either open up or don't - this was clearly a massive error to create some sort of half way house with pubs still being forced closed - how on earth was that going to work - it created mass overcrowding in a very compact area

    3. who to blame - well the authorities and their stupid restrictions and opening up to tourists when they clearly were not ready which created mass overcrowding in a very compact area

    4. Do I blame the few venues that tried to pack em in - not one bit - not their fault that they became overwhelmed.

    5. Do I blame the tourists who swamped the place - not one bit, they were told Thailand was open when it clearly wasn't

Like I have said before - either open up or don't - no half measures, and they should have opened up to locals weeks before accepting foreign tourists

What next - likely a ### lockdown  of their own making because of their stupid insistance on control and not allowing the place to fully open in the first place - you cannot defeat stupidity like that

What do you expect ?   Good management is difficult to find in Thailand, particularly near the top of the money tree.

And as for visualising the future from actions taken (or not taken) now, well, the study of cause and effect has yet to reach Thailand.
