  1. Interesting read from people.

Some of the things I have gotten from this are...
Even we are complacent and believe that it is the way it is, because it is Thailand.

The other thing I got was a perception that we are trying to westernize the issue.

The latter, I dont understand as it has nothing to do with westernizing the issue... Its Thai Law, it is a Law that the Thai leaders have put in place and has nothing to do with some of us wanting to westernize things.

I keep hoping that the next generation of kids will impart some logic in their kids, but unfortunately, the damage has already been done and it makes it very hard to predict how generations will change over the years when nothing is really being done to get the ball rolling with each generation that comes and goes.

I appreciate people replying and sending me links to petitions on this exact subject as it does concern me greatly, as I have 2 kids that WILL NOT be riding bikes without the proper training and proper safety gear and licences, but more concerned with the peer pressure that may come about to hop on the bike with one of their friends... And as much as Dad has taught them, kids will be kids and peer pressure is a strong influence... Its sad that some of us do everything we can for our kids and accident will happen due to others inactions..

  2. There is a problem which I am sure is also in other countries, however, I am referring to Thailand specifically as I have 2 children in Thai schools and have more knowledge (not by much), of this issue as it pertains to Thailand rather than in other countries.

Thailand has a healthy reputation for being incompetent with its communities driving habits and is doing a good job of keeping a high ranking in that area.

I am also sure many Thai people have noticed how bad the road rules are ignored and bad habits are allowed to continue.

My question (and a comment), is that education IMHO, plays a large factor in driving habits and at the very least, bad habits which many do grow and fester at a young age while attending school.

In saying that, does anyone know if there have been any studies or news articles that discuss the issue of unlicensed and underage motorcycle riders that attend schools?

I am being quite specific in regards to the school aspect for a few points.

    • In general, entry and exit points at schools are quite specific and schools can monitor these points to do checks on students.
    • Is this issue being addressed at any point with Governments?

Bad habits start somewhere and unless I am mistaken, schools have a responsible of due care to students, whether its reporting abusive parents to the police or dealing and educating with students who by their wishes or their parents wishes, have decided to bypass the rules and educate themselves on how to ride a scooter and how to conduct themselves on the roads and follow the rules that come with it..
The victims of course are the students, but also innocent bystanders and at some point, a few of these students will be behind the wheel of a Taxi or Bus and perhaps continue to be unlicensed and still devoid of the much needed rules of conduct on the road.

So, has this issue ever become a News article and or, does anyone know if there are Govt studies on this?

As far as I know from personal observation is that this is a non issue with the Police and Govt.
As part of that personal observation, one thing that is very clear is that Helmets are greatly ignored by students.

WIKIPEDIA states that to ride a motorcycle, a person must be 15 for under 110cc and 18 for bigger bikes, and they must have a license (Age Groups and the CC they are allowed to ride, I cannot verify, so could be wrong)

  3. You would be surprised how many smiles you get and even nice comments, when you do get vocal at a queue jumper...

Thais dont want to say anything as they are conditioned to "take it"...

Nothing sweeter in life (well there are plenty), than watching a queue jumper vocally humiliated and going to the end of the line. I found out, once I speak up, then other Thais will react accordingly and some even speak up as well!

  4. Its still down for me... My True USB stick is now empty of credit

So just tried USB tethering from my mobile again... Looks like its now fixed on W10

Anyway, its now Friday 11:41 am and still no Internet

My missus called again and instead of being able to speak to support, there is a pre recorded message that states the situation and that it is still being worked on.

There was a fire above the 3BB office at the entrance to Soi Khao Noi on Sukhumvit this morning. Some local posters were off for an hour or so, maybe other areas are taking longer to resolve - if that is the problem for your outage.

There is a thread on the Pattaya section with details.

    Much appreciated :)

Sometimes just knowing what an issue is, can be more useful than the standard replies that leave people guessing

Town or province?  All OK here down Mabprachan way.

I am only forwarding the info we got from 3BB support

As I am in Pattaya (Soi Muslim), I am guestulating the support meant this local area and not the town.

Its been down most of the day and currently still down....

  7. As for speed...

I am on 200 by 50 and 3BB put me on 400 by 50 at double the price a while back...

I told them to put me back on the plan I pay for, which they did and also refunded me the money that was taken out of my account (thats how I caught it)

As I explained to the missus... Super high speed is great if all the sites you visit are Thai based.

Since nothing we surf is Thai based, not one single problem occurred with stepping back down to 200 - 50

I still stream effortlessly in 4k on Youtube and my torrents all are completed before I have finished having a pee!

My wife and kids are all doing their thing on the devices, with the only hiccup ever being when the service is down.

So as for speed.. its not worth getting the super speed one.... But if you need it, just ask 3BB and they will set it up for you, even if its not advertised :)

  8. I thought it would be great to have a thread on Internet services and 3BB in particular.

My missus just called 3BB and it seems all of Chonburi is down at this present time...

As I am on fibre, I cannot confirm if its down for other services, as for me, Fibre is down

I do have a 3G True USB stick for backup, which is great for emergencies like this... :)

  9. If the incenerator is broken, why dont they just fix it...?

Instead they want to have a train of trucks going in and out of the area to transport it to another location, which then needs to deal with it???

Drive some of the soi's where tourists dont flock and you can see garbage piling up... from the locals...!

  10. I need to wait for the "person" to get his finger off the "make it hard for him to access the page" button

The connection to www.netflix.com was interrupted while the page was loading.

  11. drronnie, rather than look at what you perceive to be Thai attitudes on this matter, which any case rely on interpreting often subtle behaviours in a culture that is not your own, look at the attitudes to the poor here on TVF.

This forum has a very special form of bile and disdain for anyone who falls on hard times or god forbid resorts to begging.

Trawl through the posts referencing 'faring/expat begged/living rough/can't afford medical care .. etc'

You'll see the worst of TVF in all its glory.

I do disagree on some posts you made and that is my prerogative.

However, I do agree with you, with regards to this post and I am sure there are some that have replied with disgust at the OP and yet snub their noses at expats on hard times, due to inflicted or unforeseen circumstances

As for the OP, I do think there is a tradition of respect for hierarchy that may not be well founded, but could possibly be as a result of the historical status of the people of Thailand that has yet to be "washed off"

Thai TV does emphasize upper and lower classes with some force (IMHO)... whether its done on purpose or not, can be left to the conspiracy theorists

  12. You can have your ears surgically removed...

Other than that, you get what you pay for and if you want to pay cheap, expect a different type of people living there.

Ive lived in a few places around Thailand and always take the time to visit neighbors and talk with them... So far... most places I lived are quiet.... however.... some have been dreadful nightmares
