  1. I think chiangmaifun has got the analysis exactly right on GBP/THB. Many of us who were here pre-1997 and transferred money at 35-40 baht range have a longer term perspective on the GBP/THB rate . It never ceased to amaze me that that alot of the post 98 farang influx thought 65-75 baht was fixed in stone if not a god given right. I've always been a fan of the investment concept 'reversion to the mean' which is what is happening now. Look at the charts for the last 30 years

to find the mean-40 baht seems reasonable.

  2. Had the same problem with my previous dormant (and non compliant) company back in 1999.My accountant advised that if no accounts or tax returns had been filed for three years then it would be automatically struck off. Set up a new company subsequently for business and property purchase .No come back regarding the old company despite the fact it had done around a years trading(1997).I suspect the commercial registration department and tax office are more stringent nowadays-always seek qualified legal and financial advice however.

  3. I have looked at the idea of buying condos to rent out many times over last ten years.

The bottom line for me has always been the rental yield has never been sufficient to justify the risk/hassle etc

Most condos i have looked at never seem to give a gross yield above 6%(some significantly less so).Note I'm mainly refering to condos in prime areas(cbd)

Perhaps if any of the previous posters could tell us the secret of their success and what sort of yields they are aiming at etc etc .

    Thanks

  4. Irene,

Agree with you regarding a trading approach to the SET.However since 2002 I have been a bit of a yield junkie and therefore buy for yield.Hold MCS CM NNCL TPC TAF RPC MBK SPALI MK DRACO BAT-3k etc.etc.

A stock with a yield of 6% plus ,with good earnings growth is my approach.Never been good at market timing but have good steady money over the years(despite politcal economic turmoil ).Hope we're due another 2003.

    Best of luck.

  5. When Crawfords in Cha-am originally opened it was a breath of fresh air being somewhat more 'upmarket' than the rest.I'm sorry to hear that things have declined but in my observation (over twelve years) it is par for the course for most farang run businesses there. The difficulties with staff, police, tessaban etc seem to be the downfall of most.

    I hope things get better.

  6. The original post seems to indicate his initial claim for benefits was legitimate. Therefore,if he hadn't have left the UK he would have been fully entitled to the sums received.

His choice was between a life in York financed by the social or a clandestine life in Thailand financed by the same source. At 63 years old in his circumstances ,I know what my choice would have been!

    His fault was getting caught!

Thailand is full of Farang like this.
