No it's not. But if you hit your wife and she doesn't want to press charges then that was the end of the matter until the rules were changed so that the CPS also decide based on set criteria - roughly is there a more than 50% conviction probability based on the evidence and is it in the public interests to prosecute. The mental state of the accused is also taken into account.

Why on earth would, in this case, the CPS decide this was in the public interest to prosecute when it was a minor domestic assault and the victim expressly didn't want a prosecution?

The British gutter press are tossers, hounding people and fake news purveyors, but the CPS need looking at here too.

so why did he call the police in the first place?

You're quite obviously not drinking enough in the evenings.

But, hey, well done to the TV guys helping out! :clap2:

Haha your analysis is spot on Grollies.. weirdly it doesn't bother me at all when I've had a skinful lol :drunk:

Now then, earplugs or singha.. hmm, never have liked earplugs

You think you have problems. We have a resedent Tok ker. It has moved in our aluminum gutters, It has found that it amplifies its call. It does it most of the night.

I stayed in Trat at the wife's Dad's house last year. My first introduction to the 'Tok Ker'. That coupled with the rock hard bed I was invited to sleep in, meant I did anything but sleep. I spent the whole night imagining what creature could possibly make such a sound. I spotted it in the morning nesting in the eaves over the bedroom window. Nice looking reptile, but what a racket! How anyone can sleep through that I will never know. You have my sympathy for sure

I have the fan running all night which drowns the outside noises .During the day and early evening those grasshoppers (Jacajan)that live in the trees and sparrows are annoying too

My fan is too new and quiet.. I had an old 'rattly' one. Wish I'd kept it now

I suspect it's an Asian Drongo Cuckoo (Surniculus lugubris).

There's a recording of its call at http://www.birding2asia.com/Sounds/Thailand/KrungChing09/AsianDrongoCuckoo.mp3

I think that audio clip in the OP is that of a Plaintive cuckoo. Probably breeding season now and they get very vocal.

Still better than having an Asian koel perched next to your bedroom window.

YES, YES, YES! You guys have nailed it!

These are definitely the same sounds as my bird. I've not managed to actually see it yet, but it's one of these cuckoos for sure. Thank you so much, I can get researching them now. Thanks again

Yes, I think you're right. I think the OP is hearing a nok-ga-wao (that's how I'd transliterate its Thai name).

Otherwise known as a common koel I believe.

But I love its bird-song :heart_001: so exuberant. Absolutely one of my favourite sounds of Thailand.

no definitely not the Asian Koel, I know that familiar sound. Loud as they are, they only squawk by day. My bird seems to prefer squawking through the night

I think this is your culprit. English name Red Wattled Lapwing. Sound of bird starts around :50. It's incessant nighttime crying isn't year round. If you've been hearing it for a couple of months, suspect it should be ending before long.

I was slightly encouraged reading that, but having listened to this bird, whilst sounding equally annoying, this isn't the one unfortunately. But thanks for the input.

Fingers crossed someone will work it out

Be glad it's not an asian koel, i had one under my window.... it's the most annoying bird in the world. I truly hate it. Just google for most annoying bird in the world and it hits the first page!

Haha I've got a Koel Bird as well, but at least he restricts his annoying chirps to daylight hours!

  9. This bird is driving me crazy. It chirps ALL night long incessantly. I recorded this clip on my iPhone at 1am this morning. It usually carries on for most of the night and through the day too.

I am hoping someone can identify it then I can research it. I'd like to know what times of the year it is likely to be resident, because if it's a permanent fixture I need to find a new room. I can block out lots of 'Thai' noises, but not this for some reason. I've not slept properly in months :saai:

Many Thai folk will not get involved with a house where someone has popped off, some go to adjacent houses to ask if someone has popped off in the place they are interested in.

I know a guy with a lovely place he is/was trying to sell, unfortunately a girl drowned in the swimming pool, big problem...

I've just asked my g/f would she buy a second hand house... her answer.. depends if somebody die there, maybe give you bad dream, cannot stay there :laugh:

  11. You can see the kid loves his mother but love is being destroyed by fear. He won't run because she knows she will beat him. Someone needs to plant their foot squarely in her ass......

so you prefer the physically violent approach?

See people like you are just too dumb to get it. I mean, look at the way you phrase your statement..... "so you prefer the physically violent approach?" Well, I cannot speak for all of us, but I think a good portion of us would prefer an approach that does not include psychological torment OR physical violence.

I really, really hope you don't have kids (and never will).

Err.. it wasn't a STATEMENT it was a QUESTION. Of course I don't condone physical violence on anyone, especially a child. I was slating the poster for suggesting that kicking the mother would offer a solution.

  12. So please tell me everyone... where can I find this guide you've all read on how to be a perfect parent? (I hope it's not one of those written by Bill Cosby!)

My parents are guilty of all the things you accuse this woman of. Should I call the police? Should I seek help from a psychiatrist?

Or should I just laugh at the ridiculous comments suggesting that this boy will suffer any long term damage from being threatened with an insect?

  13. I remember a guy (intelligent bloke too) who tackled a broken water heater here in Pattaya about 2 years ago. Sadly it was the last thing he ever did in this world.

Don't die for DIY is very good advice here. Especially in a country with lower standards of electrical safety

  14. But it's ok to call us falang.

    how is that offensive?

it's just a generic word for a foreigner

the first white people seen in Thailand were the French **** Thai language edited out **** (Farang Saet)

hence the word used to describe foreigners stuck
