  1. Today I was able to get a no-hassle replacement Bangkok Bank ATM card for my bank in Bangkok by going to my other Bangkok Bank in Chiang Rai. My card had quit working in ATMs for some reason. I had no problems getting the replacement, but maybe it was because I also have an account in that Chiang Rai branch as well as the one in Bangkok..
  2. Thanks for your response. It must have been some defect in the Opera browser I was using. It seems to be OK now on its own.
  3. You new format creates this on my Samsung Galaxy S8 phone
  4. I had Crystal Lite (non-alcoholic) drink mix refused entry by Customs as needing a "food additive" certification from Thailand FDA. There are no powder type such drink mixes in Thailand. Crystal Lite has wonderful flavors.
  5. You would be called "American-Thai" if you were born as a USA citizen then naturalized as a Thai citizen. My wife is "Japanese-American". Born Japanese then naturalized as USA citizen.
  6. Yes, Oregon started allowing online notarization because of Covid. I actually "signed" the documents during the video by choosing a font I liked from their choices and then typing my name. If you have ability with a computer pen you could do a real signature with that instead. But definitely easier to just type your name. I prepared an answer list of everything I could find about me and also think of. They still managed a question or two I hadn't thought about. For sure every address and county I have ever lived in during my life is needed.
  7. There are now more than 30 states in the USA that allow legally valid Remote Online Notarization (RON). I live here in Thailand and had my Trust documents notarized that way for Oregon. It cost $25 for the first signature and $10 for each additional signature. I had five signatures for $55. Would have cost $250 at the US Embassy! You have to go through a pretty exacting personal Q&A with the notary to be able to do that. They dig up all kinds of publically available facts on you for the questions. You can only get one answer wrong to use the notary.
  8. TallGuy, thanks for those four forms, but how did you fill out this one: 471867877_2RetExtenStatement3.pdf It appears to be an affidavit signed by a third party that they are your guarantor of where you are living. What portions did you fill out? Or did the IO just have you sign the blank form at the bottom?
  9. Hi Joe, I have friends who are a USA foreign married couple, both over 50 years old, with a son under 20 years old, who all want to move to Ubon, Thailand as a "retired family". If I understand your comments in this thread correctly, the only monetary requirement to get a Non-O (retirement) visa in the USA is "A copy of recent bank statement ($700 per person and $1,500 per family)" (1) Question - are these the valid steps? (A) The husband applies for a Non-O (Retirement) showing $700 in USA bank? (B) The wife applies for a Non-O (Retirement) showing $700 in USA bank? (C) Once in Thailand, the husband puts 800,000 Baht in a Thai Bank and obtains his annual extension (D) The wife then immediately applies for an annual extension as his wife (no 800,000 needed for her)? (2) Question - what can be done for getting the son's annual extension? As always, thank you for being the definitive, correct source of current status on situations like these. Morris
  10. Since there are about 20 drops per ml the "GPO THC 5 ml (0.5 mg/drop" type would have 20×0.5=10 mg/ml or perhaps the same 13 mg/ml as the next one in this list. So not just "0.5 mg/ml"
  11. I think you are thinking about this topic: see link:
  12. I have an invalid wife on her own 800,000 Baht "Retirement Extension" who no longer is able to process complicated events. Therefore I added a totally trustworthy Thai person as a "Kammasit" (กรรมสิทธิ์) = "Right of Ownership" in which that person and her both sign that last page in her "single owner" 800,000 Baht Bangkok Bank bank book in invisible ink which only shows under black light. That person and others will take care of her should I precede her in death, and when she passes away they can easily use that 800,000 Baht at will. So a Kammasit is much more than a "Beneficiary" as they have signing rights over that account while the "single owner" is still living. I don't know if the local bank would prevent that person emptying the account while my wife was still living or not. I asked Thai Immigration about doing this ahead of time and they said "We don't care how many invisible signatures are on that last page. All we care about is the face page showing just a single owner." And in fact I have never had a problem getting her annual "retirement" extensions using that bank book. But, you have to have a totally trusted person as a Kammasit, such as perhaps the husband on the wife's book and/or vice-versa, or some trusted family member or other person. That right seems to be a full right to conduct all legal business with that account, including withdrawals and etc, so it must be a totally trustworthy person.
  13. I stopped in a shopping mall and watched young high school age - college age students in Bangkok eating fixed price "All You Can Eat Pizza 4:30 PM -7:00 PM". They scraped off the topping, ate only that, and had high stacks of crust left over. I don't know if there was a suitable manager there or just the hourly staff. I didn't see that particular special again.
  14. Yes my test send from Wise via Bangkok Bank, New York showed up in my bank account the following morning instead of 2:00 PM the previous day like I thought it would.
  15. Two still unanswered questions. (1) If you go to Thailand on a Non-O (not Non-OA) does the 800,000 Baht needed for an annual extension have to be a proven "International Transfer" or not? (2) Does the 800,000 have to be in the Thai bank account 2 months before applying for the first annual extension? I have become a little confused about the 800,000 requirements, even after looking for answers on aseannow.com
  16. Joe - Thank you for this very good news! I thought only the Non-OA was available these days. The Non-O option answers all their questions.! You can close this topic now if you want.
  17. There is a family I know wanting to come to Thailand. This question is not about the current COVID19 restrictions/policies, it is only about retiring in Thailand with a proper "non-immigrant status". A "Non-O" for "retirement" is not available in the USA, only a "Non-OA". They do not want a "Non-OA" for all the various reasons discussed on Aseannow. They want to be on a "Non-O". They only have enough funds (800,000) for one parent to "convert to a Non-O for retirement" within Thailand. And right now the other parent cannot travel to a bordering country to get his/her own "Non-O". So is this possible: (1) They both enter Thailand on Tourist Visas (or even Non-Exempt) (2) One parent puts 800,000 Baht in a Thai bank as an "International Transfer". QUESTION: is depositing as an "International Transfer" required to "convert"? (3) The other parent converts to a "Non-O" ("ED" status) by studying in an approved school (4) At some later point the parent stops studying and changes the "Non-O for study" status as "following the parent who has the "Non-O for retirement" status. Can this be done within Thailand and without needing his/her own 800,000 Baht? (5) At what age will the child no longer be able to "follow his/her parent" and need his/her own independent visa status? I appreciate simple answers to these questions.
  18. I guess folks in England could use this same system as they have a Bangkok Bank office in their country like we do in the USA. Or maybe they can use their country's Bangkok Bank for local transfers anyway like in the past?
  19. I tested Wise's SWIFT transfer and it works much cheaper than my USA bank options and for USD to Bangkok Bank only less than .5% less Baht than the usual way. I guess those sending England Pound it is more like 1.0% worse. If a trial normal Wise transfer in November doesn't show up as FTT I will use the Wise SWIFT transfer as my backup.
  20. After having my Bangkok Bank account "tagged", I sent from my Borderless account $50 with "for long stay in thailand" and another $50 for "personal expenses". Both indicated they would arrive today, showed up today a little after 2:00 PM, and both did show up as international transfers. So seems like tagging the account is most important, as some others have noted. Good *indicator* for my November 65,000 Baht transfer.
  21. Right now TT is 33.21 Wise is 33.335 not much difference. Of course the SWIFT won't get converted for a day or two so that TT rate could be lower or higher than right now. Still OK for more peace of my mind.
  22. The exchange rate is not "poor" it is Bangkok Bank's TT rate, slightly less than what Wise would gjve at the same time and day.
