Just looked it up on maps. It's not on main. Soi Buakao as Farangs know it. It's called Buakao 15 and connects second road with Soi Buakao which passes the Mercure hotel.

the rock factory site on buakaow was for many years the rich bar. it is a restaurant/bar combo. i went by around 14.00 hrs on thursday and it was packed, way busier than usual. i knew that it would be bound to get a visit and that things would not end well. the photos shown are after the police showed up and many would have checked bin and left ASAP.
the situation thursday on buakaow was confused with some places shut others open but not selling beer with the food. by friday there were still a few places with beer but way less and a number of the places visited by the cops on thursday were sporting closed till april 1st signs.

there are 3 "artworks"
1 opposite soi 6
1 opposite central shopping
1 opposite soi 13/4 near the south end of beach rd.
where the dolphin statue used to be opposite central rd aka pattaya klang there is a big empty space that they use now and again for various events .
they stick temp stages up there now and again. at the moment there is a temp tableau for mothers day with flowers etc
i walk the coconut bar almost every day i know what is there

This have been going on for decades, but still the tourists keep on renting from them despite they know they gone get ripped off, so who is the stupid ones? Welcome to LOS (land of scams)
The answer is they don't know. if they have never been and even if they are internet savy they may search hotels night life, gogos etc but to expect them to research scams when they are looking forward to a holiday? come on !

with regard to the OP.
there is nothing where the dolphin statue used to be at the end of pattaya klang/central rd , the nearest "artwork" which is metal is to the south opposite central shopping.
there is seating that they clearly ordered and paid for and then thought best not put any south of soi 9 police station in case ladies decide to sit on them............you can find them if you walk up towards the thai airways office towards the north end of the beach
as to pickpockets which have been mentioned i don't think there will be any more or any less than before, thats down to policing.
as to collapse of the walkway the only bit in danger is the bit opposite soi 1 near the north end of the beach and that is due to the sandbag redoubt slightly to the north, nothing to do with the alteratons to the coconut bar.
the big green truck at the south end towards walking st is to act as an emergency pump when it rains hard. however since it's been there, 7 weeks or so we have hardly had any. they should have installed a proper permanent one in the pump room they built.......it has walls walls like saddams bunker but TIT.

well before you all break out the champagne, news of this has yet to reach pattaya beach.
today at 12 15 i saw 3 indians come back in opposite the nautical inn near mike shopping. as it happens i had watched them depart and they never went far , didn't hit each other etc but i knew they were likely to be targeted so i sat and watched it all unfold. i was joined by 2 BM's from another forum just as they came back in and we watched the panto.
they left just before 2 city council officers (not the police) showed up. lets just say i have seen these 2 before and the outcome for the tourists would have been bleak.
this event brings my running total of photographed scams to 139.
number 138 was 2 days ago opposite burger king royal garden plaza.

i have not noticed the guy described in action near Mike Shopping but i will keep an eye out now.
in the 136 or so ski events i have taken pics of dating back to april 2010 the only one i have seen a falang volunteer cop turn up to (not in uniform, but with Badge round his neck was the first one) so i figure they were informed to stay out of it.
the bit of beach near Mike Shopping has little cover and a lot of ski guys on the look out so taking pics is never easy esp if you have been hanging around. newbie photo guys be careful, i've been on this a long time and have a powerful zoom so have stayed safe. sometimes i have not taken pics as i have decided it was just too risky.
as far as helping with the scam there is an old sikh tailor guy who still shows up from time to time and there used to be a big russian/eastern european guy who favoured black shirt (with some badges) and black trousers but not seen him for a long time and mostly near royal garden plaza.
take great care if taking any pics it's their ricebowl !!
as for howard most nights he can be found in front of the gogo he has a share in, oscars in soi lk metro

todays visit to bali hai revealed the media, police and ambulance with tent HQ have left.
there was Thai navy fast patrol boat tied up as was the koh larn travel company fleet.
all ferry passengers were wearing life jackets and the ferries were as busy as ever
-
i thought it strange the TV news vans were hanging around bali hai yesterday after the story had lost momentum.
i caught them filming another group of officials inspecting things but i missed the big cheese
-
update from bali hai pier this morning.
yesterdays heavy police presence was much less and down to one ambulance but the HQ tent was still there and strangely a couple of news media vans.
the need for TV crews was soon apparent as an official inspection was going on, lots of braid, lots of clipboards, lots of nodding..........the government is on the case and no need for tourists to worry.
meanwhile the sister ferries to the one that sank were still tied up and other officials were making sure departing ferries had all passengers wearing life jkts. how long this continues who knows?
there was also a police patrol boat and a marine dept sea patrol vessel in dock.
as to the ferries well whatever folks on here think about the risks involved it has had no effect on holidaymakers determined to have a good time.
the ferries were going out full one after another
-
ok, i went down to bali hai this morning to see what was going on.
i understand from various news feeds that it was not a 30 bht each way ferry that most of us have used (typically turquoise in colour ) but one of the thinner white ones run by koh larn travel, which drop and pick from the beaches and charge 150 bht round trip
5 sister ships to the one that sunk were in dock and did not look like they were going anywhere at least today.
at the end of the pier there were a load of cops and various ambulance assets complete with a command HQ tent, plus a couple of thai tv news outfits, presumably waiting any news of navy diver search of the sunken vessel.
most annoying of all was that every ferry leaving and arriving had all passengers wearing life jackets. a great many of these were brand new, i stood and watched take loads out of poly bags. and i mean loads !!
i have no idea how many were on board but if as stated in one bkk paper i read yesterday it was the last vessel of the day to leave nuan beach so it will be a fairly safe bet to expect it to be full and probably overloaded

115 incidents with photos is my running total
Has you tracking incidents achieved anything?
if i have stopped one person getting ripped off by having read my threads then yes.
i have no illusions that it will stop the rip offs, the only way that could happen is a total ban which given the amount of cash this generates will never occur
-
115 incidents with photos is my running total

I think it has stopped now , no recent reports .
i am not in pattaya, but anybody who is out there it's your turn to put in a beach walk!!
the only things that put a stop to beach activity is wind and rain
-
the bit of beach opposite/near mike shopping mall to the nautical inn is the most dangerous place on the beach to rent a ski. there are other hot spots but this is the worst.
I have seen it loads of times here, but there are many ski guys watching the passing crowds and little tree cover, observing this section of beach and getting a pic is very risky.
on my last few trips i have simply kept on walking rather than hang about !!
the next day weather permitting it would have been business as usual
-
i looked today about 15 00 hrs no sign of the jetlev or the powered shoes.
maybe they have gone off to jomtien or wongamat or the immigration / work visa police are on their case
-
14 50 today opposite the nautical inn next to the five star bar and mike shopping mall 2 indians getting the treatment from the usual suspects
-
14 35 right at the start of beach rd the first ski unit were stitching up 2 indians.
-
Thanks Lenny and Striderman for your input. Any more pics or info out there ?
same place today near central festival, different piece of kit, this time the full monty, a german made jetlev (which looks like a jet ski but no seat or steering)
and a full body harness frame with seat that looked like it was made for james bond.
did not see it in action but watched them recover it onto a small trailor and push it up the beach to hitch it to a 4 x 4
-
yesterday 16 10 opposite five star bar (next to mike shopping mall of course) 2 scams both on indians the first one a large group the second one a pair.
both almost next to each other, outcome unknown there is not much cover there and a lot of ski guys, best to keep on the move.
when i walked past about 2 hrs later 2 indians were still in talks but not sure if these were ones i had seen earlier or a new lot

this may sound daft but i had some problems with my hitachi and i thought the door seal on the fridge bit was not closing as it should.
somebody on another forum suggested rubbing vaseline on the door seals and door and believe it or not it worked.
cost me 50 bht and i still have most of the contents of the jar.
right this trip i have used the vaseline method on 2 other fridges owned by doubting ex pats and it worked both times.
cheaper option than buying a new one
