  1. KLM just cancelled our return flight from BKK to Glasgow via Amsterdam booked for 11th April 2020.

I don't have any further info yet as KLM have not updated the flight cancellations page on there website yet.

But looks like were stranded here for the time being, not a bad thing maybe, relatively safe in at the in-laws house in rural Phetchabun.

  2. I have 2 British children that have both had long overstays years+ more than once, both under 15, only thing that happens when leaving if the immigration officers clearance is not high enough, he asks us to wait whilst he gets another to get approval, overstay stamp in passport, no fine, no blacklisting. On our way in 5 minutes. No problem reentering.

  3. I disliked my time in Laos, went with my Thai wife to get a Non Imm B visa.

Food was terrible, bland & expensive compared to Thailand.

Transport by Tuk Tuk was expensive with no alternative.

Hotels are not anywhere near the same standard as Thailand.

Market by the river was basically about 30 stalls repeated over and over again selling the same things.

    No shopping malls.

Such a long queue at the Thai Consulate.

On the plus side I did like Beer Laos and the ease of changing money everywhere albeit not the best exchange rate.

I will not be returning to Laos anytime in the near future unless I have to.

  4. Can't speak for Kasikorn, but the Bangkok Bank policy is when the account drops below Bt2,000 "and" there is no account owner activity (i..e, deposit, withdrawal, transfer) for 12 months a Bt50/month maintenance fee will be applied.   Once the account balance reaches zero the account is closed.   And of course any annual fees, such as a debit card annual fee, would continue to be applied to the account (that's bank initiated activity not owner activity) and draw down the balance faster.

My Bangkok bank account has been open since 2008 I didn't use it since 2010 with 100 baht balance and I just went to use it a few days ago and it's still active. Same for my wife's account also. It's another story for Kasikorn the account I had with them shows still open on my online banking but upon checking is definitely closed.

  5. They will keep on charging you until you sort it out, did the same with my wife's bill, one year later go to pay the bill and they wanted over 5000 baht just to settle the account. You could of got an itemised bill on line with true e service, but might be to late now if you have been disconnected. Try registering for an account if you can receive sms then you might be able to register and view the complete bill online.

  6. Update

Went to Dubai restaurant on Soi 4, asked for Shisha at about 2pm and was taken to the Indian nightclub at the back of the restaurant, it has gone up in price from about 250 baht to 400 baht.

Later in the evening went back and was taken inside to the area between the outside and the kitchen has about 10 tables and sofas.

Haven't look elsewhere yet but being an avid Shisha fan I will find out where else has it, I used to like going to Zaling on Soi 4 Ratchada and they had it, it was great having a DJ drinking whisky and smoking will see if they still have it.

  7. Are they still there? I used to enjoy a Shisha on soi Arab, but I heard the military dictators banned them.

Definitely there. I don't smoke myself but am not aware there was ever a ban. Now even the street stalls set them up. And, of course, every ME restaurant in the vicinity.

It seems like I am getting mixed information some of you say have shisha and some say gone has someone seen recently?

  8. Hello

Is shisha still available in Bangkok preferably near Sukhumvit?

I used to go top Dubai restaurant on soi 4 does it still serve shish?

Or is it still available in pattaya?

I am traveling from Phetchabun so don't want a wasted journey.

    Thanks

  9. My Thai Wife, our 3 week old baby and me British have recently arrived in Thailand to live.

My daughter and I traveled on British passports.

We are now in Phetchabun living with my wife's parents.

I want my daughter to acquire her Thai nationality we have her UK birth certificate with her Thai mothers name on it will this be sufficient in the local registry office?

    Thanks

  10. If hiring from a international hire company you will need a credit card and most will take a 20,000 baht deposit+

I usually hire from highway car rent on rama 4, easy 2000 baht cash deposit but they will want proof of where you are staying and they don't speak much English.

  11. From 1983

A child born outside the UK on or after 1 January 1983 automatically acquires British citizenship by descent if either parent is a British citizen other than by descent at the time of the birth.

At least one parent must be British otherwise than by descent.

The above is from your wiki post read it properly.

    Otherwise than descent!

Must be born in the UK to automatically get UK citizenship only applies to your children's children, you might not be thinking about it now but in the future it might become an issue.

I looked into this as my Thai wife was contemplating having our British/Thai baby in Thailand and I explained it can make complications in the future with our grandchildren citizenship and also the health care is better and free in the UK.
