But, according to modern biblical scholarship, the book of Isaiah was written by different authors at different times from the 700's BC through the reign of Cyrus in 500's BC and later, and especially that Isaiah 45 dates from around 536BC, that is, during the reign of Cyrus.

So to believe this is a prophecy you must ignore or refute the scholarship that assigns the different parts of Isaiah to very different time periods.

This seems to be a generally uncontroversial view as it's in the Encyclopedia Britannica (compiled by experts in the various fields and not considered a radical source) :

    https://www.britannica.com/topic/Book-of-Isaiah

"Book of Isaiah, also spelled Isaias, one of the major prophetical writings of the Old Testament. The superscription identifies Isaiah as the son of Amoz and his book as “the vision of Isaiah . . . concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.”

According to 6:1, Isaiah received his call “in the year that King Uzziah died” (742 BC), and his latest recorded activity is dated in 701 BC. Only chapters 1–39, however, can be assigned to this period. Chapters 40–66 are much later in origin and therefore known as Deutero-Isaiah (Second Isaiah). Sometimes a further distinction is made between Deutero-Isaiah (chapters 40–55) and Trito-Isaiah (chapters 56–66).

    [edit]

Chapters 1–39 consist of numerous sayings and reports of Isaiah along with several narratives about the prophet that are attributed to his disciples. The growth of the book (1–39) was a gradual process, its final form dating from perhaps as late as the 5th century BC a date suggested by the arrangement of the materials and the late additions.

    [edit]

Deutero-Isaiah (40–55), consisting of a collection of oracles, songs, and discourses, dates from the Babylonian Exile (6th century BC).

    [edit]

Trito-Isaiah (56–66), coming from a still later period, reflects a Palestinian point of view, with the latter chapters in particular addressed to the cultic concerns of the restored community. The diversity of materials in these chapters suggests multiple authorship. How the three “Isaiahs” came together is not known."

Isaiah 1:1 identifies the author of the book of Isaiah as the Prophet Isaiah and was written between 739 and 681 B.C.  The Prophet Isaiah was primarily called to prophesy to the Kingdom of Judah. Judah was going through times of revival and times of rebellion. Judah was threatened with destruction by Assyria and Egypt, but was spared because of God’s mercy. Isaiah proclaimed a message of repentance from sin and hopeful expectation of God’s deliverance in the future.

Jesus regarded the Bible as the “Word of God.” He insisted elsewhere that it contained the “commandment of God” (Matt 15:3, 6). The same truth is implied in his reference to its indestructibility in Matthew 5:17–18.

Elsewhere, Jesus’ disciples call it “the oracles of God” (Rom. 3:2; Heb. 5:12).

Jesus ascribed ultimate supremacy to the Old Testament. Jesus often asserted the ultimate authority and supremacy of the Old Testament over all human teaching or “tradition.” He said to the Jews: “Why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? . . . Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition” (Matt. 15:3, 6). Jesus believed that the Bible alone has supreme authority when even the most revered of all human teachings conflict with it. Scripture alone is God’s supreme written authority.

You would be wise to put your faith in God's word (Bible) and not the Encyclopedia Britannica.

  2. "Isaiah 45:1, This is perhaps the single most remarkable prophecy in the Bible.
One of the Most Astounding Biblical Prophecies

A person is named in v. 1 as Cyrus. Cyrus is an identifiable person in history, mentioned also in II Chronicles 36, Ezra 1-4, and Daniel 1-10. Cyrus ruled Persia from 559-530BC. Nothing amazing so far, except when you turn back and look when Isaiah wrote this chapter.

For the biblical facts, look at Isaiah 6. When did Isaiah start writing? “The year that King Uzziah died”. When was that? 739BC. That date happens to be exactly 200 years BEFORE Cyrus was the King, that Ezra & Daniel are writing about.

Now, to help that event sink in, let me give you a modern equivalent. Russia recently elected a man named Vladmir Putin to be the next President of Russia. On March 4, 2012 Putin won the presidential elections of Russia. That is just a fact of history.

But, for a well know and recognized servant of God to have publically predicted that momentous event in writing, 200 years ago, would be astounding.

There are three very well known and godly men who lived 200 years ago. Most of us in this place have heard of one or more of them. They are pioneer missionary to India William Carey, American missionary Adoniram Judson, and famed orphanage founder and man of faith George Muller of Bristol, England. So, all three of those servants of God were alive 200 years ago.

What you are reading in Isaiah 45 about Cyrus being in power would be the historic equivalent of one of those three missionaries writing and publishing, and distributing the world over, that a man by the name of Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin would become the President of Russia, in the future.

Only God would know such a thing. Only God could know who will rule on Earth and when. Only God's Word has historic facts prophetically revealed hundreds and even thousands of years before they happen.

In God’s Word we hold history written in advance, which is called Biblical Prophecy.

The Book of Revelation is the singles greatest tool to understand the future because it is the only book that clearly spells out each step from today to the end. Each of the stages of God’s plans is found in another part of the Bible, but only Revelation features them all in one place, and explained in detail."

The Bible is the word of God.  Anyone who can read this book in its entirety and walk away as a non-believer, is a fool.  You have until you take your last breath to ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins and repent.  Everyone who reads this will remember this above written message after they take their last breath.  Some will say, I am so happy I listened to that guy, and others will say, I wish I had listened to that guy.  Choose wisely and may God Bless.

If you want some credit and aknownledge for your posts, you need to start posting your opinions with your own words. Quoting the bible for every posts gets a bit tiring after awhile. I also thought it is against the forum rules to just qoute texts as an answer.

I'm not looking for any credit or acknowledgement from any of my posts.  I would think most people would enjoy hearing what God has to say on this subject more than me.  Since the Bible is His message to us, one has to read or share what He says to those who haven't read the Bible.

Night rider,i really can not decide whether i should admire you for your blind faith or consider you a fool.

You are so convinced you are right and every one who does not agree with you is wrong.

I hope you realize that for every person like you (who believes in the bible) is another person with just as much faith in the Tanahk, the Koran, the book of Mormon etc.

Surely not every one can be right,so some must be wrong.

What makes you so sure you are right?

I remember when i was young i got to meet people from different faiths yet they all tried to convince me

they were right. That really put me of off religion. The arrogance of the people!!

Now i am a non believer for more then one reason.

I am not attacking you,i just want you to realize that there are many other religions and people are willing to lay down their life defending it,But!!!!!!You can't all be right.

Almost one-third of the Bible are prophecies.  A large percentage have come true and others will come true in the not too distant future.  You are right about there being so many other religions in the world with different beliefs.  What separates Christianity from other beliefs is the 100% accuracy of Bible prophecies.  No other religion has that because only God knows the future and the Bible is Gods word, as confirmed by Jesus Christ.

Matthew 7:13-14 Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Luke 13:23-25 Someone asked Him, “Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?” He said to them. Strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able. When once the master of the house has risen and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, open to us,’ then he will answer you, ‘I do not know where you come from.’

Don't be the one left out because you don't believe the word of God.  It only takes about 72 hours to read the Bible.  It is the most important book in the world to read and place your faith in.  May God Bless you to open your eyes.

  5. The Bible makes claims about the creation of the universe, the nature of the God who created the universe and reigns supremely over it, and the fate of mankind. If these claims are true, then the Bible is the most important book in the history of mankind. If the Bible is true, then it holds the answers to life’s biggest questions: “From where did I come?” “Why am I here?” and “What happens to me when I die?” The importance of the Bible’s message demands it receive fair consideration, and the truthfulness of its message is observable, testable, and able to withstand scrutiny.

The writers of the Bible claim that the Bible is God’s very Word. The apostle Paul writes that “all Scripture is God-breathed” (2 Timothy 3:16). That is to say, all the words recorded in the original writing of Scripture originated from the mouth of God before ever reaching the minds and pens of the biblical writers. The apostle Peter also writes that “prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit” (2 Peter 1:21). The phrase “carried along” is indicative of a sail being propelled by the wind. That is, the writing of Scripture was directed by the Holy Spirit. The Bible does not originate with man and is, then, a product of God and carries the authority of God.

John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

In Psalm 12:7, God promised to preserve His Word from “this GENERATION for ever.” Preservation served to prevent accidental corruption of the text during transmission. Also, this divine preservation counters the deliberate, concentrated war on the Bible by Satan and his agents. This conspiracy to pervert the Word of God is world wide, and dates to the most ancient of times. The Word has been under attack since the serpent deceived Eve. The enemy of mankind, knowing that the scriptures lead to salvation, causes man to doubt the Bible, reject the Bible, and even alter the Bible. The corruptions are as numerous as the heresies which spawned them. God has strengthened and purified His Word, that it may stand against this assault. Martin Luther once said, “The Bible is like a lion; it does not need to be defended; just let it loose and it will defend itself.” God has preserved His Word, and it can defend itself. Despite the opposition of devil and man, God’s Word remains pure, inspired, and inerrant. How do we know that heretics have attempted to change the Word of God? God has given us warning about heretics bringing perversions of the gospel.1 The Lord takes His Word very seriously. He has preserved it for us. He has commanded us not to change it in any way. He has also given us warning about those who alter it, and to those who alter it.

I'm not certain what your malfunction is but you appear to have a reading comprehension problem or may have an extremely low cognitive ability.  However, if you are able to read and have a general understanding of what you read, the Bible is crystal clear about the earth being a sphere.

Everything God wants us to know is in the Bible, including how to spend eternity in Heaven.  It takes around 72 hours to read the Bible from start to finish.  This will be the best spent 72 hours of your life.

These are God's words not mine.  The Bible is very clear, when we die we will spend eternity in one of two places.  The choice is ours to make.  Mocking God's word is not a wise decision.

The only thing I stated recently was that the world has been proven to be millions of years old, and not 6000, like he said.

According to the Creator, the earth is around 6,000 years old and the Bible is the word of God.  Instead of just reading a few Bible passages, you should read the entire Bible.

  10. “God is love” (1 John 4:16). He is not some cruel monster who deliberately and inwardly delights in preparing people for everlasting condemnation. But He earnestly and lovingly proclaims the gospel of Christ, “not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).

Throughout the Scriptures, God urges people to accept the truth. But when people reject Him and spurn His message, then—and not until then—God hardens them and turns them over to a deluded mind to wallow in their wickedness to their eternal damnation. This is what the Lord says about those who choose to reject the truth: “They greatly love to wander; they do not restrain their feet. So the Lord does not accept them; He will now remember their wickedness and punish them for their sins” (Jeremiah 14:10).

Only a fool would reject God's salvation.

This is as bad as Obama is the bad guy and Trump is the savior. I know many here believe so, but in my eyes it is as deleted as it gets when they choose to believe something that is not even close to the truth, or have no what so ever proof and only exists in their fantasy told many enough times to be a real truth among those who can not see.

The Bible makes it clear why God is sending a strong delusion in the end times: “They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness” (2 Thessalonians 2:10-12). Simply put, God sends a strong delusion to those who choose not to believe the gospel of Christ. Those who take delight in mocking and rejecting Him, He will condemn.

It is a person’s choice whether to accept and believe the truth of Jesus Christ as presented in the Scriptures. To receive the truth and the love God offers is in keeping with its teachings, “This is love for God: to obey His commands” (1 John 5:3). Conversely, to know the truth and not obey it is to face the wrath of God: “The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness” (Romans 1:18). Frankly speaking, there is no more dangerous condition for man than to know the truth and refuse to obey it. To do so is to harden the heart and make God’s condemnation sure.

When one knows the truth and refuses to obey it, he is subject to any lie, any deception, any untruth that humanity can conjure up. “For although they knew God, they neither glorified Him nor gave thanks to Him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools” (Romans 1:21-22). Paul goes on in the next few verses to describe the mindset and behaviors of those who disbelieve (see Romans 1:29-31). As a result of human foolishness and arrogant disdain of the things of God, “God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done” (Romans 1:28). And correspondingly, “Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things, but also approve of those who practice them” (Romans 1:32).

Right folks, don't get sidetracked by details like incest and phantomatic prehistoric creatures...look at the bigger picture!

In addition to mentioning giant reptiles, the Bible describes a couple of creatures in such a way that some scholars believe the writers may have been describing dinosaurs. The behemoth is said to be the mightiest of all God’s creatures, a giant whose tail is likened to a cedar tree (Job 40:15).

Some scholars have tried to identify the behemoth as either an elephant or a hippopotamus. Others point out that elephants and hippopotamuses have very thin tails, nothing comparable to a cedar tree. Dinosaurs like the brachiosaurus and the diplodocus, on the other hand, had huge tails which could easily be compared to a cedar tree.

While the Bible does not discuss the issue, dinosaurs likely died out sometime after the flood due to a combination of dramatic environmental shifts and the fact that they were relentlessly hunted to extinction by man.

One thing is certain, these 40 writers of the bible that you mention, sure weren't anti-semetic.

Ultimately, above the human authors, the Bible was written by God. Second Timothy 3:16 tells us that the Bible was “breathed out” by God. God superintended the human authors of the Bible so that, while using their own writing styles and personalities, they still recorded exactly what God intended. The Bible was not dictated by God, but it was perfectly guided and entirely inspired by Him.

Many pieces of the “Ice Age puzzle” remain unsolved, but one thing is sure. Based on the Bible, we can be certain that the changes occurred within just a few human generations—not over millions of years. What follows is only a benchmark based on our starting parameters.

yes but adam and eve had only two sons ,so how did the world go on ?n

The Bible doesn’t say where Adam and Eve’s first two sons — Cain and Abel — got their wives, although it does tell us that Cain and his wife had at least one child (Enoch). The usual assumption is that Cain and Abel married their sisters. (Later this was forbidden by the Old Testament, but was necessary at the beginning of the human race.)

Don’t be sidetracked by questions like this, however — because the story of Cain and Abel is an important one, and has many lessons to teach us. (You can read it in the fourth chapter of Genesis.) Cain, the Bible tells us, became angry at his brother because God had accepted Abel’s sacrifice but rejected Cain’s sacrifice, because Cain was selfish and his heart wasn’t right before God.

  16. The Bible was written over a span of 1500 years, by 40 writers. Unlike other religious writings, the Bible reads as a factual news account of real events, places, people, and dialogue. Historians and archaeologists have repeatedly confirmed its authenticity.

Using the writers' own writing styles and personalities, God shows us who he is and what it's like to know him.

There is one central message consistently carried by all 40 writers of the Bible: God, who created us all, desires a relationship with us. He calls us to know him and trust him.

The Bible not only inspires us, it explains life and God to us. It does not answer all the questions we might have, but enough of them. It shows us how to live with purpose and compassion. How to relate to others. It encourages us to rely on God for strength, direction, and enjoy his love for us. The Bible also tells us how we can have eternal life.

Multiple categories of evidence support the historical accuracy of the Bible as well as its claim to divine authorship. Here are a few reasons you can trust the Bible.

Archaeology confirms the Bible’s historical accuracy

The Bible today is the same as what was originally written.

Four of the writers of the New Testament each wrote their own biography on the life of Jesus. These are called the four gospels, the first four books of the New Testament. When historians try to determine if a biography is reliable, they ask, "How many other sources report the same details about this person?"

  17. Simple conservative math explains a young earth.

Let us start in the beginning with one male and one female. Now let us assume that they marry and have children and that their children marry and have children and so on. And let us assume that the population doubles every 150 years. Therefore, after 150 years there will be four people, after another 150 years there will be eight people, after another 150 years there will be sixteen people, and so on. It should be noted that this growth rate is actually very conservative. In reality, even with disease, famines, and natural disasters, the world population currently doubles every 40 years or so. After 32 doublings, which is only 4,800 years, the world population would have reached almost 8.6 billion. That’s 2 billion more than the current population of 6.5 billion people, which was recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau on March 1, 2006.

This simple calculation shows that starting with Adam and Eve and assuming the conservative growth rate previously mentioned, the current population can be reached well within 6,000 years.

We know from the Bible, however, that around 2500 BC (4,500 years ago) the worldwide Flood reduced the world population to eight people. But if we assume that the population doubles every 150 years, we see, again, that starting with only Noah and his family in 2500 BC, 4,500 years is more than enough time for the present population to reach 6.5 billion.

By using simple math one can see man did not walk on the earth billions or even millions of years ago.

That the world would have more people than it can handle if it's millions of years old? Did I say humans were millions of years old? Haven't you understood that dinosaurs, of which there is considerable proof existed, came before man? That excerpt came from the American Museum of Natural History, but was written by a scientist. This world is very overpopulated, and it will mean the end of the planet if it continues this way, as our food resources will run out. Do the math yourself. The first humans were supposedly on the earth between five and seven million years ago. The dinosaurs were here 230 million years ago, and long extinct before man arrived. By 65 million years.

I'm a Christian, and believe, but the world is millions of years old, according to The American Museum of Natural History...............

There are two ways to determine the age of a dinosaur fossil. One is called relative geologic time, which involves deciding whether one dinosaur fossil is older or younger than another. The other is often called absolute geologic time, which involves estimating how many millions of years old a dinosaur fossil is.

To determine relative age, one must realize that dinosaur fossils are preserved in layers of sedimentary rock, which are deposited in sequence, one on top of the other. Fossils contained in an older, lower rock layer are relatively older than fossils contained in a higher, newer layer.

The sequences of rock layers containing dinosaur fossils often also contain layers of ancient volcanic ash, and the ash is composed of minerals crystals formed at the time of the eruption, which contain radioactive atoms. These atoms break apart at a constant rate in a process called radioactive decay. Using sophisticated scientific instruments, geologists can measure how long it takes for half of the parent atoms to decay into daughter atoms, a time period called the half-life. Geologists then measure the proportion of parent and daughter atoms present in the ash crystals to determine the crystal's age.

If the earth is millions of years old, there would be standing room only.  Please do the math starting with Adam and Eve.  Then start over after the flood.  This requires a little thought on your part.  Don't rely on some imbecile who works for the American Museum of Natural History.
