I went to do a 90 day report in CM yesterday waste of time queues like I have never seen 6 deep on the steps and around the car park just to get in wonder if any virus vetting was taking place I gave up and went home not leaving the car anyone else there to confirm? ????
I had to spend three days there recently and this is exactly what I encountered. I have been reporting to CM immigration for several years and this is the worst I have ever seen.
I posted my experience on the CM forum, and had a few posters claim I was making it up and bragged about how they get processed so quickly. Thanks for the post ????

What I understand was the law was implemented when there was an influx of Vietnamese and Cambodian refugees fleeing the war into Thailand in 1979.
The Thai government wanted to keep track of their whereabouts but this was expanded later to include all foreigners.
The purpose is to keep track of foreigners so that immigration can nab overstayers and/or criminals.
I think you are right about this as I have heard this explanation before. If one were to give this explanation a little thought, it is even more idiotic to require foreigners who finanicaly qualify to live in Thailand, marry Thais, support Thai families, or just comfortably live out their retirement years, to be hassled with yearly extensions, 90 day reporting, and TM30's.
As far as arresting people who overstay their visas or God forbid participate in some sort of nefarious behavior, only people with low cognitive abilities would believe these individuals would ever participate in 90 day reporting, yearly visa extensions, or TM30s.

It's an unfair question to ask them. They are not makers of policy - only implementers.
Gee Moldie, since you expressed your concern over asking immigration staff the reason for 90 day reports and TM30s, what questions do you believe would be more appropriate to inquire about? You apologists are always a source of amusement. Thanks for sharing.

Seriously, immigration should reopen Promenada branch for those who don't need higher officer approval like 90 day, TM30 check-in, 30 day tourist visa extension etc. That should cut the queue length considerably.
BTW, 90 days report can be done on the internet, I don't know why people still want to add to the imm. crowd for this.
I prefer to do my TM30 check-in online if I knew how.
Have you ever wondered why we are required to do 90 day reports or TM30's in the first place? I haven't met one immigration officer who was able to give an intelligent response to this question.
It doesn't seem to bother the Chinese, since they come from a communist country, and are used to being under the watchful eye of government officials. It's hard to imagine any westerner who wouldn't question this.

Went to CM Immigration this morning to update my TM30 Receipt of Notification (having arrived back from a short trip out of country on Saturday). Walked up to the third floor, was handed a queue number at exactly 11:00AM as I walked in the TM30 office and was finished at exactly 11:03AM. Not bad and even several minutes shorter than when I last updated this past October.
Well, that's great Bob. Good for you ????

I believe BritMan is ignoring you guys because you appear to be low functioning posters, and are badgering him over something taken out of context. This topic isn't about BritMans two children. Maybe you guys can spend a little time outdoors taking in the smoke filled air. ????

A long time ago, I made a comment in a reply to one of your posts (reflecting even then your complete disdain for CM Immigration) that I was puzzled as to why you stayed around given your attitude. Now that you've said you are leaving and have no need for further annual extensions, hopefully you'll feel no compelling need to keep telling us how horrible it is out there.
Many people, including myself, experience minimal hassle and wait times at CM Immigration for annual extensions or whatever. Some have had to wait 3-4 hours to get through the extension process recently (some part of which is due to the time of year when a higher number of people need various extensions) and, while sitting there for 3-4 hours isn't all that much fun, it's only once a year and one can possibly survive that. Most do it without railing at the officers or the system.
Good for you Bob ????

You really think that the Thais working at immigration can write decent English?
I have been going to immigration office for a few years now and I have never seen any officers who can speak English beyond the lower elementary level, let alone their writing.
I went to immigration in November last year and my application was approved in less than 2 hours even though I went there at 11 am.
I had this experience at immigration recently, so this information probably doesn't pertain to you. I have no idea what was going on at immigration in November, but thanks for sharing your enjoyable yearly visit to immigration during the month of November.
As far as most Thai's not being able to write in English, one or more of the comments on this subject were written so poorly, it looked like it may have been written by a Thai masquerading as a westerner.
In all the years I have been reporting to CM Immigration, it has always been packed with foreigners this time of the year doing their required yearly extensions, 90 day reporting, and all the other reasons we are required to return to this building. This year was the worst I have ever experienced.
I was so surprised immigration would go to the trouble of building a new facility that is woefully inadequate to handle the people who are required to report daily, much less than in the future. Maybe immigration will continue increasing their requirements for foreigners to live here and don't plan on having many foreigners in the future. I have no plans on waiting around to find out what their future plans are. They have convinced me it just isn't worth the yearly nonsense anymore.

You don't really believe that - do you? After that, it is difficult to believe anything you have said... good luck in future endeavors.
When quoting another poster, you should quote what the person said not just part of a sentence. I'm not really concerned what you believe or don't believe. I simply wrote down what I experienced during a three day ordeal at immigration, which should have been a non-eventful hour at best. I posted it for people who will be visiting CM immigration in the near future, so they can better prepare themselves. If that isn't you then maybe you should just take a nap.
I think this may come as a shock to you but there are a couple of Thai posters on Thai visa masquerading as westerners. Sometimes it is difficult to distinguish them from the westerners with low cognitive abilities. If that isn't you then maybe go back to your nap.

By the way you write, I would guess you are Thai. If you are a westerner being paid by immigration to write positive posts about CM Immigration, then they are wasting their money. They should look for a westerner who can at least write a coherent sentence.

Unless you pay an agent to walk you in past the queues.
There's something very odd about a few of the posters on this thread.
Why are their experiences different to ours?
And before anyone starts posting their usual nonsense, I've never had any 'paperwork difficulties' all my difficulties have been about getting in to see an immigration officer, followed by their complete rudeness and belligerent attitudes.
The posters who say you can walk into this office during normal working hours and get processed in an hour are being less than truthful. They may even be Thais working at immigration. I didn't embellish anything in what I wrote about my experience at this immigration office. I wrote this for the benefit of those who will be required to report at CM Immigration in the near future.
I actually reported there twice during working hours before going there early in the morning. Showing up before 10:00 am, the line just to get into the building was out into the parking lot. I have been doing this for several years and this is the worst I have ever seen.
The good news is this will be my last one year retirement extension. I plan on returning to the states at the end of the year. I won't even return to Thailand for a vacation. Any vacations from the states will be back to Europe or Japan.
I think the Chinese government is having a strong negative influence on the Thai government. Any government who shakes hands with the Chinese government better count their fingers. These people just count the baht and worry about their fingers later.

Absolute BS, I renewed my retirement extension recently, arrived 10.45 , 1 hour all finished !, I think too many people on TV have nothing better to do than complain !
There is no way you could have done this at CM Immigration. What I wrote is fact. If you would have shown up at CM Immigration at 10:45 am, you would be standing at the back of a long line in the parking lot waiting to get into the building just to get the first number. You need to rub those sleepy little eyes and wake up. This is for Chiang Mai Immigration, not the immigration office you visited.

This is just a heads up for all you Chiang Mai, westerners on reporting to the new CM immigration headquarters for your one year visa extension or the many other reasons you are required to show up at this building. After a couple of attempts to report during normal working hours, I discovered if you don't show up there at least by 6:00 am, you may not be able to do anything more than waste your time.
The building is woefully inadequate to accommodate the number of people who are required by law to report to this building. I'm sure it was designed with this in mind. After all, the people who designed this building already knew the numbers of foreigners required to show up at immigration daily. If you are elderly or handicapped, it will be even more difficult for you.
I was surprised to discover you are given two numbers. The first is a temporary que and will have a number on it. When your number is called, you will have to show the inspecting officer your paper work. If anything is missing or incomplete, you will not be able to get a regular que number, and will have to try again the next day. They run out of temporary numbers quickly. I observed many foreigners who were confused about this new procedure. Many had to return two or three times before they were issued a regular cue.
I actually thought when this building was being built, CM Immigration would be more professional on how they process visas for foreigners. Actually, they have managed to make it more difficult for foreigners to abide by their ever changing requirements to qualify to live in this country. I suspect by next year, new rules and regulations will be again implemented to encourage more foreigners to move to another country.

I think we are all missing the point....which is that targeting Westerners who have chosen to live here and who bring with them money from outside the country is absurd.
I beg to differ. Every foreigner who visits, brings in money from outside. Just for the sake of money, a country cannot keep their eyes closed to all the scum that comes in.
Its NOT all westerners (or for that matter all foreigners) that are 'targeted' - its the scum that they are on the look out. Just reading through the TVF is enough to understand that.
I have read a lot of comments like yours referring to foreigners as scum. I see many coming from Burma who are poor looking to better themselves, Chinese tourist who tend to lack basic social skills, Japanese who are probably the politest, Americans, Canadians, and Europeans but none who look like scum.
As far as immigration officers, I see many of those who have very basic office skills, are void of any law enforcement skills, who are required to follow some of the most idiotic rules imposed on foreigners in the world, while their leaders buy their way up through the ranks. I wouldn't consider any of them as scum either.
These people are living in a third world country, with one of the worst education systems in the world, along with one of the more corrupt governments in the world. However, Thai Immigration for some reason is making it as difficult as possible for westerners to continue living here. That seems to be the point many are missing here. I think you can dispense with the scum comments.

I see a lot more videos on YouTube, exposing Thai Immigrations countless ever changing rules and regulations for people who want to retire in Thailand. Thai tourism send their representatives out to different countries to drum up business as the air pollution gets worst, jet ski scams continue with the backing of the local police, and immigrations campaign to rid Thailand of western retirees continue.
Thai tourism is fighting a loosing battle. The only people left they can talk into coming to Thailand is the Chinese, and due to Thailands lack of safety regulations, they have managed to kill many of the Chinese tourists. The world is watching Thailand as your days as a great tourist and retirement destination is quickly fading into the sunset.

Well, they certainly are tightening up on farang key noks. And more power to them (although the implementations procedures could stand a little tweaking....). Historically, It was embarrassing to go to the US Consulate for my annual income statement, and to witness the human trash who were certainly scamming the system when claiming to meet the income threshold (well, a few looked like their drug business may have qualified them....). Anyway, you can't blame the Thais for tightening up on just who they allow to remain in their country.
Never heard of a visit to someone here on a retirement extension.....Does he have ear piercings, and/or a forehead tattoo? Maybe his agent ratted out on him over an illegitimate financial reporting? Anyway, all's well that ends well. Clearing out farang trash is, for most of us reading this, completely acceptable -- and long overdue.
I hope you are here, when the Thai government expels the remaining foreigners living in Thailand, and confiscates their 800,000 baht bank deposits. Have you ever wondered why the required deposit has to be only in your name and not have your wife's or children's name on it too? "Farang key noks and human trash?" Where did that come from?
The retired Australian police officer deposited 800,000 baht in one of Thailands third world banks to qualify for his yearly visa extension. He doesn't have earrings or facial tattoos or any other tattoos. After this most unwelcome visit from immigration he is in the process of leaving Thailand. We both have property here so it slows our exit down a little.
There are basically three types of people in this world. People who make things happen, people who watch things happen, and people who aren't aware of anything happening. Many of the people who labor to write coherent thoughts and opinions on Thai Visa, appear to be in the latter above mentioned group. Even though you seem to harbor a hatred or at least a dislike for your fellow expats by referring to them as "key noks and human trash," I hope you are able to wake up and see what is coming your way before it is too late. Please don't bother replying with any of your naive thoughts. Maybe share them with other like minded posters in La La Land.

So, other than they drove over there in the BMW, how, exactly, did the smart car help?
The fast thinking immigration officers used the BMW smart vehicle's GPS to find the Indian restaurant. Great job BMW and the same goes for the immigration officers for taking a bite out of crime.
Thai Visa should receive some type of award for publishing this crime story. This is just another example of the threat foreigners pose to Thailand. Let's double the 800,000 baht deposit in a Thai bank requirement, and make these people take a Thai language test before renewing their yearly visa extension. That should clear a lot of these people out of here.

I thought pensions are more like 2500 to 3500 euros per person?
What's going on here? Are pensions around Europe really that low in general? 1200 per person or even 600 per person?
That's <deleted> up.The average Thai would love to have a pension of 1,200 euros a month. Most of the Thai Immigration officers who process our yearly visa's barely have two nickels to rub together.

Wow, they found a foreigner acting suspiciously, and then consulted with their BMW smart vehicle who determined the foreigner had overstayed his visa by seven days. Then on a hotline tip, they discovered two Indians who chose to cook curry dishes in their Indian restaurant, instead of spending the day at immigration to renew their visas. While these arrests were being conducted, tons of illegal drugs were flowing through Thailands border from the infamous narco state of Burma.
Hopefully, immigration will make an example of these foreign law breakers. Maybe they can round up some immigration officers and have a photo shoot with the law breakers, before giving them a taste of what it is like to do time in a third world prison. It shouldn't be too bad as long as the law breakers are into man love, and don't mind eating a small bowl of maggot infested rice daily.
I suspect, international news agencies will dispatch their top reporters to Thailand, to report on this story. It warms my heart to see the immigration hotline being used by concerned Thai citizens to rid Thailand of foreign law breakers. I tried to report one of these foreigners walking across the street at a cross walk impeding vehicle traffic, but the hotline operator couldn't speak English so the foreigner got away. I'm sure the foreigner was aware pedestrians do not have the right away on Thailands roadways but crossed the street anyway.

We must travel in different circles. None of the westerners I have ever met is involved in "illegal work, prostitution, or other illegal activities." I can't imagine any western moving to Thailand, so they can work for peanuts. As far as western women coming here to work as prostitutes, Thailand is the AIDS capital of the world.

I am yet to be visited by immigration (12 years already, retirement visa). Could be that your friend raised some red flags or maybe a new initiative where they do random sampling?
Please try to refrain from trying to apologise for immigration staff. Maybe they wanted to meet a real police officer and that is why they came to his home, and took photos of him. Random sampling, red flags??? All one has to do is bring up his name up on an immigration computer.
