  1. I think that there is no doubt, most certainly Thailand was a better country from every aspect in 2021. Let's hope it will be the same in 2022.
  2. Does anybody know if there are any decent wall-to-wall carpeting manufacturers and layers of a decent, not the best quality in Chiang Mai? I want to carpet part of my house, about 100 sq. Meters - my extended study. If any of you can get me the information, I woud be most gratefful
  3. Unfortunately most of the money will not come from foreign tourists, but mainly from poor Thais, which could end up in an economic disaster
  4. Every country weighs the pro and contra of any action like opening casinos. I am of the view that for Thailand it would be a huge mistake to open legal casinos. Knowing a lot of people here, such a step would only add to the national private debts, which would end up in an economic disaster.
  5. I totally disagree.freedomof expression and other freedom forms are most important, but always within a country‘s and national cultural accepted limits. One can‘t destroy a nation’s culture in the name of freedom.
  6. If you like Italian food, try Giorgio's in Chiangklan Rd.
  7. Not so! Even the strict (in my view incorrect) interpretation, says "residents of Thailand" which naturally means also foreigners residing here, including, of course, Permanent Residents. If they meant only Thais, they would have clearly said so, as they do on other restrictions.
  8. We all, wherever we are, will have to learn to live with this awful Corona virus with all its old and new mutations. Vaccinations, including boosters, and all other precautionary measures will be of great assistance, but although absolutely necessary, will not eradicate the virus. Opening up, albeit in a careful and orderly manner, is an absolute necessity, as one can‘t close up the world wide economy for ever.
  9. Are you sure that the insurance is limited to COVID only, or we are talking here about a general health insurance?
  10. What you are describing is normal for airlines, who look for ways and means to enhance their income, when given the opportunity. Try and change departure or changing a stop over for a stay of one or two days, and you find yourself paying through the nose for it.
  11. what has happened to the COE as well as the Thai Pass? Have these been done away with, or are they still required?
  12. How right you are! Look at other countries including Australia, USA, UK and others. We all have to learn to live with this awful epidemic and be as careful as possible. We have to find the correct balance between being careful and keeping the country going.
  13. If PM Johnson decides to lift all precautionary measures, which he has done, then one shouldn't be surprised. Opening the country, opening the economy, shouldn't mean not being careful. Some measures, like wearing masks, keeping distances, not allowing full stadiums and theatres and other measures, are still necessary and will remain so for a long time, maybe years.
  14. What you both are doing here is telling a half-truth and taking news out of context. The numbers in Germany are still high and slightly increasing, but Germany has been largely opened, encouraging vaccinated people. The numbers in Russia are awful indeed, but you don't say why. The reason is that most people, particularly in Moscow are not vaccinated, as most Russians don't trust the available vaccine.
  15. The latest news are that a clear announcement will be made within days, hopefully this week. Obviously, as no definite announcement has been made the embassies/consulates have to go by existing regulations regarding COE, hotel quarantine etc.
  16. We are talking here about tourists. Why should a tourist wish to have a Thai Bank Account?
  17. I fully understand and appreciate that certain precautionary measures are necessary, such as full vaccinations, tests, Thailand Pass and insurance. However, what I really can’t understand is that even now, 2 weeks to go to November 1 there are still no clear rules. How are people supposed to make plans for a journey to/from Thailand?
  18. BritTim has a Thai yellow certificate, but how and where did he manage to get an du approved vaccine pa sport based on the Thai one? I would be grateful for details about this, as I also intend going to Europe soon and returning beginning of December and although I have a yellow Thai vaccination certificate, I hear that I may face difficulties there with only the Thai yellow certificate, as in the EU one needs a so called green Pass. I am fully vaccinated with 2 x AZ.
  19. I fully trust the government wishing to do what they say they intend doing. However, one doesn't and can't know what is going to happen between now and November 1. If the present tendency, which indicates a reduction of infections, continues, restrictions will probably be, at least, partially lifted. However, if infections rates increase, I am afraid this may not be the case. I also intend travelling to Europe, if possible, in November, but will not make definite arrangements till November 1.
