  1. What is urgently needed and what would make a great confidence booster and motivation for expats in Thailand would be a system that rewards foreigners who have done all things by the book and never have been in trouble with the law for a longer period of time, let's say 10 years.

All we get is penalties, restrictions and the uneasy feeling of not truly being wanted here; do one mistake, get into a bar brawl, smoke some weed or get into a legal problem with a client or biz partner, etc. and you are always with one feet on a plane back home.

But be good and what happens? Any rewards? Citizenship? Permanent visa without all the registration hassle, uncertainty and costs that registration involves? Any easier visa processing? Anything...? No, we get NOTHING!!!

I have never been in trouble with the law in my 24 years here and what do I get for it? I am just tolerated as a guest, just as much as the next guy stepping off the plane in Bkk for the first time of his life... I am not whining about it, I have adapted and accepted the fact that I always will be a 2nd class citizen here, but this thread asked for suggestions and there you have it.

    Cheers,

  2. However the Thais are still in the dark ages on the subject, thinking foreigners will own their country.

    60 million Thais.

1,500 million folks across the border looking for a way to escape the pollution, possibly the next famine when their desertification project is complete, maybe the radiation from Fukushima, and the fricking cold weather (never mind a place to hide ill gotten gains).

Maybe they've got it right, and our politicos have been selling our countries out from under us?

And spot on you are, impulse! Well put! thumbsup.gif

  3. It's a senseless and fruitless discussion, and it is going on for decades! Thais will never allow foreigners to own land, full stop! As a foreigner living and working in Thailand, one has to accept the fact that we are allowed the status of a temporary visitor only who has no or very little rights but plenty of obligations. Anyone who can't hack it is better off in their home country.

  4. With ever tightening rules and regulations which come with a rather disturbing aftertaste of racism, a military junta with a planless leader at the helm who is so in love with himself, and who believes that politics reduce to the tasks of implementing more erratic rules and regulations and babbling useless phrases in front of cameras; with increasing prices, a decline in quality of services, decline of friendliness of Thais towards westerners, and the fact that an investor or house/property buyer in this country owns nothing and has next to none rights regardless of how many millions of Baht or dollars he/she has invested here, mixed with the actual economic situation, it is no wonder that numbers of foreigners relocating to Thailand are in a major nose dive. Too many westerners have realised: Once the superficial Thai smile fades, the true colors shine through and those colors are darker than a Waffen SS uniform.

  5. Who knows the road that this man has travelled. Who knows what pains, and who has taken advantage of him before. Who knows if he has been abused as a child, unloved as a child, treated as a nothing, a lost soul, and searching all of his life. Was he emotionly abused, paralised through life with fear and mistrust. Was he a human shipwreck, a soul always searching for love, a love that was never found. We will never know. But we know this for sure, that he was 81 years old, and a much younger lady being 41 years of age had taken advantage of whatever vulnerable state this man may have been in, and it obviously wasnt the true love that most of us would wish for. Upon the realisation that this love was false, and had never been, did this man finally crack and unleash all of the anger he had pent up inside him since he was a teenager. Did the probability of prison not act as a deterent, because in his eyes, nothing mattered anymore. At 81 had he had enough of being emotinally blackmailed in what he first may have thought was a true and lucky love for him? Who knows......But sometimes people just crack. Their soul breaks in two, because after years of being lost, and at a loss as to who they really are, and to why they even exist, a temptress comes in, and steals their last ounce of dignity from them. Who knows......A very sad tale for both of them.

  6. It however is nice to see that the Thais don't like the taste of their own medicine (ban on this, restriction on that, crackdown on foreigners and making it ever more difficult for them to legally live here, etc. while they (the Thais) can indulge in whatever illegal activity they like)...

Now they are all howling and whining... "Why ban our products? Just because we have the whole fishery industry in LOS run by sadistic sodomizing Thai captains and submissive illegal Burmese slaves? Just because we throw some of them overboard at high sea from time to time if they refuse to work harder for nothing? Come on, white people, you can't do this!? You can't ban our ploduct just because of those litten plomplems!!! It's unfair!!!!"

  7. An estimated 112 million indians in north and south America were slaughtered by "the founding fathers"... and now they make a movie where native american indians are ridiculed???

Would like to see a film like that featuring Germans ridiculing jews, and the whole planet would be in outrage, parts of Germany would burn and jews worldwide would demand to see heads roll...

But with those indians, well let's do it, why not? We all know which religion is running the movie industry, so who wonders... America should be ashamed of its past, but instead is proud of it - sickens me to my stomach! sick.gif

  8. The article provides no evidence that Thailand agreed to any of this. Only that the Chinese guy said so.

I'm guessing the Junta is playing a little game here.

No!! the Yanks were playing a big game (their guns and tanks will have made in China on them in the future) and they just lost!!

I hope that other nations (especially Asian ones) take note of this and reconsider/re-evaluate the extent of their allegiance to this egotistical country that thinks they own the world and everything in it.

If someone childishly takes their ball away then don't sulk, but go and find someone with a better ball that is prepared to play with you.

Well done Prayuth for putting them in their place by ignoring their pathetic threats and doing something positive about it!!

    Nonsense.

The US has criticized the Thai Junta, just like UK, the EU, and others. The US has slightly scaled back military cooperation. No "threats" are involved. Just the usual signalling.

At the same time, the US has been strongly pivoting toward stronger alliances with countries that oppose Chinese expansion in the South China Sea. Thailand doesn't factor into that scenario.

Will the Junta actually come to any agreements with China? At this point, it is impossible to say. There is no rail deal. There is no military deal. In my opinion, these deals wont come to fruition. Quiet diplomacy will win out.

Alienating your friends and driving them towards forming alliances with your enemy because they refuse to be subservient and bow to their demands does not seem a very sensible strategy to me!!

But Prayuth's strategies are ver sensible then, aye? What kind of drugs you on?

  9. I doubt very much the US could give a flying fig about Thailand cozying up with China.

They, Thailand and the rest of the world know, for all of America's issues, the Thai's would jump back in bed with the US in a heart beat over China, Russia or anyone else.

Thailand can flutter their eyes and try playing games as much as they want, but they are not fooling anyone and i expect the US could not give a hoot.

Rest assured, they do! Thailand is and always was a strategically important stronghold against communism. Plus it is a strategic necessity for the US marine and army. You truly think they will sit back and watch Thailand being pulled from under their feet? You must be kidding me! By getting cuddly with the Communists, our Fuhrer basically signed his own death warrant.

  10. Oh, oh... bad move! Does our beloved "leader" really want the US of A to bomb this country to bits in order to "liberate" its people, or what? I truly am NOT a Yank lover, but still prefer uncle Sam sitting at my porch over sharing my bed with the communists. This could end bad, real bad...

My prediction is that a certain person here in Thailand (who thinks he stands above all, is untouchable and who obviously is blinded by his sudden rise to power and influence) will forcefully be removed soon. Then, all hell will break loose. May god have mercy on our (the expats') souls sad.png

  11. Would all not be a problem if the military regime would truly care about Thailand's nature and the beaches... Reality is that the original crackdown and beach cleanup was done because they weren't offered a share of the "corruption grease" generated here. As an answer, they simply demolished everything.

How can these people expect tourists to visit their beach resorts along the coasts if not even the very basic needs of the common tourist such as beach lounger and shade are provided? It's like trying to run a 5 star hotel without beds, asking guests to sleep on the floor. Pathetic and so utterly stupid that I wanna throw up whenever the topic comes up... sick.gif

Almost forgot - think Thai people expect a public figure by now to be put under house arrest for life because he/she demands democracy for Thailand so we all have an idol to put on walls and car stickers to at least give us hope that something will change to the better and Thailand be free again...

  12. Exploiting your kids starting at 16 months old, turning them in to monkeys in TV circus and damaging them for life with this result and than asking for privacy...

Parents like this should be in jail!

I understand what you are trying to say, but I believe it is a bit too harsh. Just imagine you would be his dad and now read something like your post...

  13. Well, they have my sympathy! Kind of envy them for their resilience and their way of life. Most likely the children who are brought up in that community will appreciate little things much more and are better behaved then any of the city kids... Plus, when the s hits the fan, globally, they and their parents will find it easier to survive than spoiled hiso brats who can't even survive without their stupid smartphones.

This would be the perfect testing ground for alternative and renewable energy. Instead of seeking sympathy from a government that obviously gives a toss, they should find foreign help organisations who engage in sustainable energy, etc. What a win-win opportunity for both parties, and what a shameful outcome this would be for the non-caring government. thumbsup.gif

  14. oh look out….here come the koh tao bashers/tv detectives/fantasists……the same few names that have been none existent the last few months when 'Pattaya' & 'Phuket' have been in the headlines DAILY……fortunately for KT its geared up for younger tourists so it will never have to deal with the likes of most of you that comment here..the lack of girly bars will be a deciding factor in that seeing as i bet thats the only option for the majority of you guys.

why can't you just be grateful that after all the bad press thailand has received lately that its still ranked highly of places to go…kind of proves that its not all that bad….after all you came her and continue to live here…so must be better than home.

There are plenty of other islands and beaches in Thailand that are by far more beautiful than Koh Tao, PLUS: they won't kill you, unlike Koh Tao. You don't get the point here, Frank82384742, the reason why all those Koh Tao bashers, detectives, etc. are upset about this piece of s(deleted) was voted number 1 is that absolutely everything on that island is wrong, starting with any structure or building there is since there never were land titles, building permits, etc. and because the first people settling on that island were murderers, rapists and drug dealers hiding from police, eventually having that island and each inhabitant who had the bad luck to arrive later in a tight stranglehold, taking hostage not only the infrastructure such as water and electricity, but murdering any person that would get in their way (in the most lucky cases only your business would go up in flames), raping and/or murdering beautiful girls who would not succumb to the divine charisma of their male offspring, just like Hannah... The fact that such an island gets a number one vote shows clearly that tourists obviously have no eye for real beauty, can't distinguish between a messed up party island and a natural gem (like Koh Kradan, Koh Lipe, etc. on the west coast), plus the fact that they seem to give a toss as long as everything, including drugs, is easily accessible so they can get comfortably numb... and this, Frank2756244, this makes me and the Koh Tao bashers angry!

So, what makes you angry is a fantasy you choose to believe in, brilliant. rolleyes.gif

I feel really sorry for you, Aleg... don't worry, you'll get better eventually.
