What did the family of the cop that Red Bull heir Vorayuth Yoovidhya killed?  100K THB I believe.

Here in Thailand the state is happy to separate the haves from the have nots again (as the Thaksin fiasco exemplifies).

Nobodies get next to nothing in compensation; somebodies get lavish compensation.
And if the prep is a somebody?  They skate.  If the prep is a nobody? Throw the book at them.
Here in Thailand that is called equity and justice.

1 million baht according to the news stories shortly after the incident. 1 million baht is also the common compensation for death, for example is that amount mentioned in insurance policies.

Anyone managed to obtain a tax certificate from Thai RD that they have been a tax resident in Thailand in a given year? I received dividends on German shares and was charged 25% withholding tax instead of 15% and now need to prove that I was a thai tax resident in 2022. This problem arises in a lot of circumstances where one receives dividends from non Thai shares and is charged a higher withholding tax then is stipulated in the DBA. Usually the DBA rate is 15% and more is withheld at source.

IMHO there is a possibilty that this certificate will usually only be issued if you had paid taxes in TH, which I did not. Can someone corroborate? I understand there might be a distinction between certificates one being a tax certificate and the other being a tax resident certificate. To my understanding German IRS should accept both.

I can obviously prove that I have been resident in Thailand for more then 180 days with passport stamps.

Any recommendation on the use of an agency to obtain said tax certificate without having paid income tax. In the past income tax was only levied on income remitted in the same year, which I did not.

I am currently not in Thailand so cannot apply in person.

    Thanks!

You need the R.O.21 (Income Tax Payment Certificate) and the R.O.22 (Certificate of Residence), both for the said year in question. As the R.O.21 states, you need to be tax resident with a registered TIN (Tax Identification Number) and have been submitting a Tax Return Form, which can be with a 0 baht receipt for tax payment.

Without those forms for the given year, you cannot expect to get your withheld dividend tax reduced to 15 percent.

Tax Return Form in Thailand needs to be submitted no later than the March 31st the following year.

All ticket dates are changeable, it depends on the class of ticket you purchase whether it's free, or a fee applies.

Nope, I've been using budget tickets that cannot be changed, fee or not; they are lost if not used on the booked flight.

We just try to help you with answers to your questions; just buy whatever ticket you like.

    Hi there,

My fiancé and I are moving to Bangkok in July as she has secured a teaching position at an international school. They are sponsoring her visa and work permit.

I am currently job hunting myself but it is possible/likely I may need to move out with her before I manage to secure a job and therefore a work and business visa/work permit.

What is the approach in this scenario? Do I need to apply for a tourist visa and hope to secure something within the 60 days?

My background is government and NGO work, so I wouldn't be eligible for any technical specialist routes.

We are not yet married as we were planning to do so once in Thailand. Are there significant benefits to us marrying before we leave to help secure a spousal visa route for example?

We've struggled to get a clear picture from the official e-visa website and would welcome any advice from more experienced hands!

    Many thanks,

    Kieran.

You can apply for a 60 days tourist visa and in Thailand apply for a 30 days extension of stay, which gives you a total of 90 days.

If you apply for METV – Multiple Entry Tourist Visa – you can take a short trip to a neighboring country after 60 or 90 days in Thailand and return to a new 60 days entry and a 30 days extension. That can give a total of 180 days with one re-entry.

It's my understanding that when you find a job you'll need to apply for a non-immigrant B-visa abroad and re-enter on that visa. I'm not sure if you can change from a tourist visa to non-B visa inside Thailand; perhaps others can answer that or you can find a thread in the forum with answer.

So if you're 'buying' a leasehold condo and the developers/Reit's finance is rock solid you could find yourself being kicked out before the lease is up?

Yes. Therefore, don't BUY leasehold condos or something sub-leased. There are earlier cases where people have lost their investment, some even their luxury house investments. Your contract will be with the leaseholder of the original lease, not the real land owner; so, any claim would be against the leaseholder than haven't paid the landowner.

According to all threads here I've seen in ASEAN NOW and other forums about the subject, return or onward ticket is not checked by Thai immigration. It's the airline flying you to Thailand that checks it, and if you don't have the ticket, you will not be allowed to board the airplane. So, you'll not end up in BKK without a ticket, and nobody seems to care checking it there.

You both completely miss the point.
I'm fully aware it's a requirement of the airline and not Immigration to have an outbound flight within 30 days when entering VE.

The reason for this is simple. If, for any reason, you were denied entry, the airline, at their own expense and inconvenience, are responsible for returning you to your point of departure.
As I understand, they are also subject to a separate fine.

Most simply recommend purchasing a cheap throw away ticket from any Thai airport, without any forethought.
My question (thinking outside the box) was simply if your outbound ticket was from any Thai airport other than the one at which you arrived, if refused entry, it would be impossible to travel to any other airport. At the very least, to avoid a refusal or complication to board at the original point of departure, make sure your outbound ticket is from the same airport you'll be arriving at.

Yes, I'm aware that the chances of being denied entry is minimal, but it's the airline that's responsible for you if you were to be refused, hence their policy.

Last year, a good friend had to return to the UK due to a family bereavement and was unable to renew his retirement extension.
Returning VE in November with the intention of applying Non O > 1 year extension at local Immigration and aware of airline policy, booked a cheap outbound ticket from Don Mueang to Kuala Lumpur.

His International flight was from London to Suvarnabhumi.
Checking in at London, the check in assistant noticed his outbound ticket was DMK to KL.
"Sir, if refused entry, how will you travel to DMK". Answer - he couldn't!

He then scurried around to book an outbound ticket from BKK to KL, before being allowed to board.

I've never heard about this before. If you have a return ticket, which is not changeable, you would need to stay 29 days or so in the arrival airport's terminal. No, the thing is that you have proof for onward travel out of Thiland with the duration of your permitted stay, which is what the airline checks at your departure point.

However, if you think otherwise, then just buy yourself a changeable return ticket, then you'll be safe...

it seems that Phuket people have a real dislike towards farangs.

I have spent quite a bit of time there in the past and the animosity from the locals was striking!

There is a specific facebook gorup based in Phuket that advocates discrimination and even violence against farang.

I wont mention the name, but if you are in the know then you know!

what is it with Phuket specifically? why do the locals seem to have a deep dislike for farangs?

BKK, Patts, CNX, even Samui doesnt seem to have this level of distaste for the holidaymaker.

considering Phuket is an island that is based on tourism and needs the tourist dollar to survive - you would think the locals would be happy about them being there,

especially after the pandemic when many phuket locals were out of work.

    what's it all about?

    bob.

The locals in Phuket seems to dislike "bag farang guys" – so to the locals here on Samui...:whistling:

Has anyone planted land with trees as an investment? If so what part of Isaan and what type of trees are being planted. Am thinking of buying land so local price in your area would be god to know. Thank you in advance

Rubber trees. Tree for paper is also an option. It takes seven years before you can cut rubber; you might need to co-work with some experienced cutters doing the work; the share is often 40/60 or 50/50. Wood for paper, the trees can be financed by the paper manufacturer.

Prices for land can be very different – you, cannot own land as foreigner, so it needs to be a Thai spouse or partner, or through a Thai company limited – and also depends of how good the land is for other purposes, like growing rice. When I bought land the price was around 10k-20k baht for low grade and low title deed rice land; and 40k baht for nor sor 4 (Chanote) title prime rice land per rai (1,600 square meters). Today the same kind of land is traded for around 70k baht and 100k baht per rai.

Be aware of title deeds. Some are kind of ownership – for example nor sor 3 variants – and can be upgraded to full ownership (i.e., nor sor 4). Other title deeds can be agricultural land given to be held by families and not sold – even it's widely traded – these titles are not registered by a land office. However, at the moment the agricultural land titles can begin to be upgraded to nor sor 4 (Chanote) title.

As an investment, you shall calculate it well, before you do it. Agricultural land gives a low average percentage in outcome (or dividend) of the investment. The gain is the expected increase in land value when it once get sold.

My girlfriend/wife is 35 years younger than me.... someone posted that a few days ago. It sounded pretty proud. But what can he be proud of? Has he ever thought about what it would be like to be with a woman who is 35 years older than him? Why does this man think the woman is with him? Because she loves his big belly so much? Or his wrinkles? Or his bad teeth? This woman has a financial interest and is playing her part. She may have a husband, her family and several children to look after. And the man? Buys a partner to escape being alone. Maybe he's already part of the leftover ramp? And what kind of image of man is being spread here? Is it all about sex and not about a lasting, resilient partnership? Does the man I described above think his lady will be happy if he has sex with her for a few minutes every few days under the influence of Cialis and can feel his smelly breath? I was born in Italy and I miss respect in this forum. There is hardly any discussion, everyone thinks their opinion is the only right one. Other opinion holders are denigrated and dragged into the mud. Why is that? Is it because of the origin of the members? Are the majority from the UK? Old, bitter, disappointed? There are about the same number of Germans in Thailand. I'm not treated so rudely by them. Maybe they come from a different background. So, dear members: Respect! Women are not sex objects!

Lucky guy, my girlfriend is only 32 year younger than me.

We are not equal, it's very individual how relationships work and age difference in same. If the older part is young in mind – and perhaps also keeps a healthy body – it can work well; I'm talking from experience, however with a few less years the the mentioned poster. For me, it has so far worked well 20 year now...

However, my lovely girlfriend is getting older; so, perhaps it's time to restart with a new young model...:whistling:

Due to urgent necessity a friend of mine had to use part of the funds that he kept on his personal Thai bank-account and dipped 150.000,- THB under the required tresshold minimum of 800K to meet the financial requirements for his next 1-year extension.  He did this during the first 3 months after he applied for his current 1-year extension based on his Non Imm O Visa for reason of retirement.

He did not have sufficient funds on his other Thai bank-accounts, reason that he had to use part of the required 800K during that initial 3-month period.

However, he has been transferring more than 65.000,- THB every month from abroad.

His Imm Office is CW, and his current Permission to stay is due to expire 31 October 2024.

    QUESTION

    > Are there any AN-members that have switched when applying for their 1-year extension  from the 'Funds-in-Bank' method to 'Monthly-income-transfer' method?

And if so are there any additional requirements to be met at CW for such a switch besides proof of having transferred +65K funds from abroad each and every month for the 12 months preceding the application for his 1-year extension in October 2024?

    Thanks for any responses.

Note: He is well aware that if he would not meet any additional requirements that CW might impose for such a switch at his next 1-year extension application, that he would have no option but to leave Thailand, and on return start the application process from scratch again for a 90-day Non Imm O Visa.

To my knowledge, part of the permission for an extension of stay is to keep the deposit as requested; i.e. 800k baht 3 month after permission of extended stay, and not under 400k baht the remaining period until two month before next application, where you need to top up to 800k baht again. Getting below the mandatory levels means that your present extension of stay terminates, and your friend will need to restart with a new non-immigrant O-visa.

Absolutely no idea where to post this - maybe some kind moderator😀 wil redirect if necessary

My gf wants to buy some gold - why I have no idea - being a cautious person I just want to understand how it works over here:

In Europe/US gold is priced per oz or gram - over here it seems to be priced in some weired way she calls Baht (the same as the money BUT not the price - the weight)

If anyone can tell me about this much appreciated.

Also is buying gold in Thailand a risk of being scammed or are there established routes for legitimate purchase?

Gold is very important for Thais, especially Thai ladies.

It's safe to buy gold from the many gold stores that normally have red front and lots of shining gold on display. The gold is 23.9 carat and sold per weight. It's also used for investment/savings, where you can show your savings at the same time; more serious physical gold investment would be in gold bars, which some of the gold shops also sells, but they are not as good to make face with.

The weight measure is "baht", which is 15.244 gram or the original weight of 768 rice grains. It's the same weight as money-baht originally was, but the money has been devalued, so you today needs more than 30,000 money-baht to get one "real" baht...

What's acceptable as an onward ticket. By bus, train, flight, from where, to where?

Buy a cheap budget flight ticket that you can afford to throw away; for example the short distance from Hat Yai to Kuala Lumpur, it's very cheap on certain week days. Another possibility might be "Onward Ticket", which is a reservation system for next to nothing in cost, but I have not reference if it's accepted; perhaps some other forum members have experience.

However if I go to that link and then press English the page changes and I get various options under Forms and Downloads. One of those is e-Form Filable Tax Return. If I click on that and then 2023 at the top of the new opened page and then click download pdf I get an English version of what I presume is PND 94 (the bit in front of 94 is in Thai script) with fillable boxes. As none of them have drop downs are you accessing a different link to the one I have mentioned or is it because you log in first?

You shall make the tax return form online, not download...
