What is it about Thailand and the gutter press here that makes reporting suicides so interesting and seemingly compulsory?
Probably the same thing that makes all the keyboard warriors want to jump to conclusions b4 after considering the facts.

Indians in Pattaya wearing jewelry to the tune of USD 30,000 (not $ 300.00 as the article says)? When usually they are so cheap that 3 of them share one bed with 3 ladyboys? Right!
The article is from Pattaya Daily news
I'm not sure any comment was required on either it's accuracy or journalistic skills.

thugs like this for some reason attract a following, like the Australian Mark Chopper Reid...mercifully they live hard and die relatively young
He doesn't seem to0 bad
Thats a great laugh-havent seen that one-Eric Bana at his comedic best taking the piss-nice post mca thankyou
I think you will actually find it is Ronnie Johns - funny - but I don't think Eric Bana would waste his time on shit like that.
Chopper was actually sitting in a pub in Richmond and a young guy walked up to him and said "I know who you are" <pause> "you're Eric Bana"
Funny as

Is Thailand the country where all failed sub-editors and journalists get a job?

Perhaps we need a thread on that.

Getting back to the OPs original question which I am going to assume is not renewing his one year provisional license but obtaining a full five year license.
I did this last month in Chon Buri (near Regents School).
The documents I took were:
- Residency Certificate
- Medical Certificate
- Passport
- Copy of photo page of Passport
- Copy of front and back of current (one year's driver's license).
I had to do the "sitting tests" again - braking, perception etc.
No vids to watch.
And as Thai's do PS very well it wasn't quick.
(and as stated in previous post other documents can be substituted for Residency Certificate).

Thanks a lot! Very interesting and...a bit scary. I know people who wouldn't be able to pay and leave which means, theoretically, being indefinitely held in a DC.
I wonder what does international law say about holding someone indefinitely anywhere. And are there organizations one cans ask for help?
Countries execute minors. hold minors in detention without trial and conscript them into armies.
"International law" is silent on these things.
Not sure it's something I would be relying on.

WRONG
Bang Lamung is a district (amphoe) but there is also a township/subdistrict (thasaban tambon) called Bang Lamung within the amphoe of Bang Lamung.
I guess an easy to understand comparative use is NY City and NY State. Same name, different geographical status.
We could also complicate things further by saying Chon Buri is a township (tambon) within the District (amphoe) of Chon Buri within the province (changwat? no doubt will be corrected) of Chon Buri.
But let's not.

I have never been addicted to drugs or alcohol but have had some alcoholic friends - rather than put these people in jail - they should be given therapy - he may not be a great father, but if he is simply incarcarated, then he will be no father at all and can offer no support for his child.
Mr Chaiwut was charged with theft, and will be sent to a drug rehabilitation facility

Is Banglamung in Pattaya????
No
The other way around
Banglamung is a district IN Pattaya. When you drive from the North you see signs that say "Welcome to Pattaya" then you drive through Banglamung. Pattaya begins just after Laemchabang and ends around NaJomtien.
Banglamung is at the Northern most end of Pattaya.
Living in Pattaya my official address is
Nong Prue (Tamboon or Sub-District)
Bangmalung (District)
Chonburi (Province)
But I think we are wandering a bit off topic.

I really want to thank you guys for some of the greatest wind ups of all time.
A guy falls off his roof and we are going to engage in a massive campaign of raising balcony heights and putting railings on roofs.
Absolute gems.
Keep up the good work - TV is always good to get the day moving with a laugh - even in tragic circumstances.

I'm not sure why you don't do it prior to your leaving the country.
Unless of course your leaving the country for a period > 60 days prior to 1 November.
The OP is currently out of Thailand so that option is out.
Also as far as I know currently, Jomtien is no longer liberal on 60 day out applications. 30 day early is standard and welcome but recent reports say they no longer welcome early applications than that.
I did one last year but had proof that I would be out of the country when my extension was due to expire - but no need this year so no worries.
And that will learn me to read things b4 I post.
Thanks

The good old US of A has a superb record on banning things -- except of course for things that might actually kill you immediately
But slightly off topic
mea culpa

Yea and they took the Australian Government to court on the same issue and lost. Then again they couldn't pay off the legal system in Aust so they might just have a chance in Thailand.
The under developed world is the last stronghold of these killers and they will fight moves like this by whatever means - fair or foul -
and the fact that they do this shows that moves like this do have an adverse effect on sales
Good luck to the Thailand government -- and to all the legal people who will make a bomb out of this (last bit is tongue in cheek by the way)

Here in Chiang Mai, they won't do give 15+ months visa extension in one appointment. Instead, they want you to convert to a 90-day O visa and then return during the final 30 days of that visa to obtain a 1-year extension due to retirement. Each step requires a fresh letter from either the Thai bank and/or the consulate. You'd think they'd welcome the opportunity to reduce their workload, but no!
It would help if the OP told us where he planned to live. Unfortunately, local practices do differ.
The Thais do Public Service well -- and each Office appears to be it's own little fiefdom

i will probably retire in 2 years time in thailand so the posts on here are very informative .It is much cheaper to do everything yourself than pay an agent.
absolutely - and you'll probably find with an agent u do most if not all the grunt work

Personal experience !
Last November I had to leave urgently and unexpectedly -- and no re-entry permit! (flew Phuket- Perth Aus.)
On return received a 30 day visa exempt entry.
2 days later visited the immigration guys.
About half an hour later had an "O" visa conversion of my visa exempt entry AND my retirement extension reinstated ----total cost 3900bht.
Before you ask ----yes, I do also now have an "emergency" re-entry permit in my passport ! (1000bht)
That was basically how my first visa extension went.
Arrived Thailand on a tourist (airport) visa.
I'm fairly certain that there had to be greater than 14 days left on the visa so the next steps could be done.
Converted tourist to non-imm O - this gave me 90 days.
On same day got non-imm O extended for 12 months due to retirement.
Cost was (from memory) 3900 baht
I used an income Stat Dec not a "seasoned" bank account
Then got a multi entry that good until the expiry date of retirement extension (which is not a retirement visa)
This was all done in 2011 - and I walked out of Jomtien Immigration with 15 1/2 months ---
I'm pretty sure I have terms right but of course stand and no doubt will be corrected

one day I'll read this shit and one of you will say something positive
doubt it tho

I am assuming this happened in Sutus Court. Because unlike the experts on here speculating I am staying here. For hours they sealed the area off and a team of Police with masks, gloves and other CSI like devices where here and an ambulance was here for a very long time. The wing the body was in can be accessed from Soi Lengkee without reception knowing quite easily. So I saw a team of professional looking investigators, Police, medical crew and whatever and some concerned looking staff. But of course to some wannabees on here everyone has screwed the pooch. The lady on the front desk is painfully efficient and I doubt the wind can get past without her knowing what room it is heading but that wing used to be part of Opey De Place but there are a lot of CCTV cameras about. So let the Police do what they can without sniping at all concerned.
Amazing and finally a post on ThaiVisa that makes sense
The Moderators should pin this in the gold section.

Sorry Australia has already beaten you to it. Australia now has plain packaging with the entire box taken up with graffic pics and warning. The tabacco companies took the government to court over this and lost. Unless Thailand intend to make bigger packs then sorry they have ran 2nd. The court proceeding were being watched by a lot of other countries who may now follow Australia's lead.
The main Australian lead was the removal of branding from cigarettes and that's why the peddlars of death took them to court and lost.
And as such were world leaders ---

I lived in Pattaya for a couple of years (which will not go down so well with the holier than thou on these forums) - I was under the impression that there were death squads wandering around just waiting for falang to wander onto their balconies so the death squads could throw them off.
Sadly a lot of older retired people go to Pattaya - become disillusioned or broke or both and see suicide as their only option.
The "newspapers" that sensationalize these events do little credit to themselves.
