  1. Oh, one thing I forgot to say: for some dishes, they must be spicy. If not spicy, then they taste totally different sad.png

And we did not tried "Boiled Fish" yet. In China, this is a must order when you go to spicy restaurant... I don't think they can find the same fish here for cooking this dish.

  2. I had been to the Soi Welcome one several times in the past. But found it getting more and more lousy so I stopped going there.

And for this Soi 53 one, at least, from my first 2 visits, I am quite happy. Maybe the new landlady does an important role here :))) She likes to communicate with pen and paper if there is language problem. Service is good. I can feel they put heart into this new one.

Yes, the taste is quite "Chinese". Besides the "Boiled meat", you can also try the "Spicy Chicken" (my hub liked this the most when working in China. anything dry and hard he likes!), which is pieces of chicken meat stir fried with chilli in a dry way. And you can also request the dish to be spicy or not spicy. Yesterday, we requested the "pepper potato " not spicy as we had kid with us. But it would had been even better if it is spicy. This restaurant uses dried chilli for cooking and that's why many Chinese like it here. On the wall, there write many comments from the customers: Chinese, Korean and japanese .

....you can even go to Google Translate and copy the Chinese character for "spicy " and "not spicy" then show to the landlady. I'm sure it will work :)))))

  3. Hey, the photo is of the Shanghai Restaurant....

Am just back from the Soi 53 restaurant. No wonder I felt the boss looks familiar and the menu familiar too. You know what ? The old one in Jomtiem Soi Welcome was closed. So they opened this new one here. Before, the brothers ran the restaurant. Now, only the elder brother and his wife.

My personal impression is: this one is better than the old one. Menu is in EN, CN and Russian, with photos. The quantity is very big. So we adviced the landlady to provide different portion with different price, in case some customers want to try more dishes at one time.

I found Peking roast duck on menu. Landlady told me I need to order 6 hours in advance. She distributes biz cards. And some of my friends now often order Jiao Zi from her.

As I am not a westerner, it's not easy for me to recommend dishes to "Farangs". Tonight, we ordered spicy tofu, pepper with potato (this one is not spicy), jiaozi and boiled meat. We liked them all! If you like spicy, I suggest you try the "boiled meat" (Number 20). And the homemade chilli sauce on table is very nice. Strong and fragrant !!!

Yes, Soi 53 is so easy to find. After the Siam Country Club soi, you go further and will see Soi 51 soon, then next one is Soi 53. At the Soi entrance, you will see a big green sign which writes Chinese (name of a school ). This restaurant is next to K-bank and Tops on the right side of the Soi.

Anyway, it won't hurt to try. Good Luck!

  4. Hi, I found these 2 recently:

One is "Shanghai Restaurant". If you turn from North Pattaya Rd to 3rd Road, after about 100 M, you will see it on your right side (on the left sids is Soi 2). It has some red lanterns under the roof, and a small white plastic board, which writes "Shanghai Restaurants" in Chinese, EN, Russian and Korean. And you can see cook making noodle and dumpling outside. The decoration inside is nice and cozy , very Chinese, the menu is beautiful. Xiao Long Bao tastes good (made upon order), also the rib etc. To me, I like this shop better than Pao. Very delicate style. Price is not cheap, but not expensive either.

The other one is north west style . If you turn from Sukumvit Rd to Soi 53, after about 100 M, you will see it on your right side. Under the roof is a big red board which writes "中国餐馆", and some dumplings ready to sell. It serves those common Chinese dishes (Roast duck not found). Price is cheap. Style is rough, including the toilet. But the landlady is friendly and the food taste nice !

Both restaurants are new. Tomorrow eve, I will go again to Soi 53 with friends, to try more dishes smile.png))post-125519-0-60512300-1377850860_thumb.

  5. I forgot to write this:

After waiting for 2 weeks for the feedback of our vacuum cleaner, we called Numchai to push them. This time, they said one part was damaged and replacement cost 2600 baht... And we must tell them ASAP whether we wanted to change or not, because they planned to send it out to fix on the next day. (suddenly, they seemed so efficient !!!!)

2600 baht, and maybe another month to wait for the fixing... We told them to stop sending for fix and throw away the old one tongue.png

  6. My washing machine is fixed. And here is the whole story:

Numchai said they would come at 1pm... and they arrived at 3:30pm, 3 young boys. After doing several operations on machine (meanwhile playing with the baby ), the leading guy told me the machine has no problem. I did not believe him. And told him to reduce the spinning speed. He said: can not. the speed is auto set by machine!!! So I realised he had no clue at all.

And after they left, I used the machine and it was as loud as before !!!

During the same visit, I let the guy check my Electrolux vacuum cleaner. He could not fix it and took it back to shop to check. Afterwards I waited for 2 weeks and still got no feedback. So I told them to keep it and we will buy a new one. Numchai charged 400 baht for their last visit and if they return the vacuum cleaner, they will charge another 100 baht.

Later, we contacted that 24 hours Siemens hot line. The engineer came from BKK, checked the machine carefully and found out the problem: shock absorber and carbon brush were damaged. We waited 2 weeks for the parts and he came again for replacing. Total cost 2340 baht for parts. No service charge.

I guess maybe Numchai is good for fixing simple problems. For complicated ones, better call the product's service centre.

  7. The shark fin soup Chinese restaurant near Royal Garden, they might sell it I would think.

I think I ate bird nest in that restaurant during my pregnancy. Served with coconut as desert and tastes much better than those sold in bottle in supermarket.

Pity China does not allow to bring in bird nest dry products now.

  8. Taking birds nest to China?

Isn't that like taking coal to Newcastle?

Oh oh . It's said the bird nest from South East Asia is the best. South China also produces some, but.... the pollution in China is getting so crazy these days.....Shame

  9. Does this Consulate issue Austrian visa too ?rolleyes.gif (I mean, can people submit visa application here, instead of going to BKK...)

    First sentence, NO!

Second sentence, YES, but needs more time,

" Die Anträge müssen mindestens 14 Tage vor der geplanten Reise an der Botschaft eingebracht werden. Im Fall einer Antragsstellung über die Honorarkonsulate müssen diese mindestens 4 Wochen vor der geplanten Reise eingebracht werden."

    http://www.bmeia.gv.at/botschaft/bangkok/ratgeber/reisen-nach-oesterreich/visa-informationen.html

Hmmmmm, boring.... Am not sure if my understanding is wrong. Normally, a consulate issues visa and carries out other important functions. Otherwise, why it is called a consulate, ho ho ho

  10. Thanks for all the info ! Bad luck that I happen to know China customs now forbidden passengers to carry in dry bird nest. Only cooked one in bottle/jar is allowed.

The cooked one, to me, is same like KFC tongue.png So, no need to buy for her now !

  11. Does anyone know where to buy bird nest in Pattaya? Just normal quality is ok.

My friend is pregnant, and Chinese believe eating bird nest often is good for baby.

Last time, in airport, I saw the normal price for 1 box of bird nest is 25K Baht. I'd like to get more info. I will fly to China in Fri night, maybe I can shop some for her.

    Thanks a lot in advance!

  12. Sorry to hear that. Did you report to the police (the one on the beach road; balamung police is not in charge of this area ) ? Although the chance of getting back the stuff is close to zero. Still worth a try. Better than nothing.

I was once robbed on Naklua soi 16/2, the soi in front of Centara Hotel, at 7:50PM. Those trash should be eliminated from earth!

  13. @Susan just keep riding with your baby and I am sure you do it very carefully so you should be fine. I done some 100K km on scooters here in Pattaya and I never had an accident but admittedly some very close calls so be careful out there.

....My highest speed is 40KM.... most of the time 20 to 30... a bit faster than a snail w00t.gif

  14. Thanks to the advice!!! I've bee using a good baby carrier bag. Only the baby is too heavy now on my shoulders so a seat would be better. A sling is a cool idea for restraint . I like "Do It Yourself" style.

Hmm, to some other posts. Alas!
Yes, we have a nice car and a nice apt (bought) on 43rd floor on Wong Amat beach, one side facing koh Larn and the other side facing whole pattaya city . Some like to mock others so they feel superior. I hate to mention money, property etc (how silly and shallow), but to some people, these are the standards they judge others with!!!
Universal values are the same everywhere, such as kindness, honesty, uprightness etc. But "common sense" is a rather relative concept. Countries differ in climate, economy, history and culture etc, so do the "common sense". In my country, it is a "common sense" to drink warm to keep healthy;but in west, people like to drink iced. I won't make a fuss and say the westerners are "committing suicide" everyday by damaging their stomach. And I won't say the welfare system in EU is spoiling the lazy ones and hurting the diligent ones.
Although I hold high respect to the good west norms, I also disagree with some of them. Look at the various problems appeared in west in recent years. Some of the west regulations seem too "stiff" to me. They tend to "generalize", instead of being more detailed upon different circumstances.
My brother in law also used baby/kid seat for m/c in Pattaya for 2 years. And so do other westerners as I have seen on road. Nothing is 100% safe. Once born to this world, we have to face various dangers every day. Life is not easy. People still take flights in US after 911 right?
Pattaya is already very polluted with tons of cars (sad for environment). I'm not car-addicted. Doodling around with m/c is a good way to experience local life and my baby likes it very much. And yes, most of the Thais people are so friendly to kids. I know my limit when riding m/c.
English is not my mother tongue. I apologize for my inappropriate wording sometimes. Wish I could have more time to read and write.. I've no intentions to inflict my personal opinions on anyone!

  15. Ok ok ok, I know you all have good intention, but it's really not necessary to involve such a harsh tone !

If you search in google, you will find some seat photos. I'm not looking for a crap one, that's why I'm asking here.

.....adults differ greatly even of same age (some 40 look like 70, vice versa), so do babies (some can already walk stably of 10 months, some still have no teeth of 12 months.). We are a sporty family. I rode motorbike alone to BPH for delivery on that day ! If you are strong and alert, you have more control and confidence. So long as the safety methods are done, no need to have panic. How many people still get killed every year, even with the proper car seat and belt on?! Once you're on road, your safety is a bilateral thing. What can you do if a drunken fool is driving a heavy truck towards you ?!?!

I'm not riding motorbike like in Grand Prix, and I ride mostly in sois for shopping and sightseeing, and mostly in the early morning (when most of the *@(#&$(*#&$(*@#$& have just fallen asleep :)))))))

I post here for info and advice, not for unreasonable accuse . Be fair!

  16. Hall to all Mr. know everything biggrin.png ,

My baby is 9 months old, and my scooter is Yamaha. Where can I buy and install a baby/kid seat on motorbike ? Someone told me to try the shop called PUN YON near Pattaya Klang. And another shop opposite Friendship supermarket.

Does anyone have experience ? Normally how much is the price ? Thanks a lot in advance !

PS: Driving car in downtown is same like having a constipation , ho ho ho ... Scooter is much easier smile.png))))

  17. Hello,

Where can I find good service for Siemens drum-type washing machine? The drum makes loud noise when spinning for drying, and the last minute for drying takes 2 hours. The screen shows whole washing process is 2:02 hrs, but actually it takes 5 hours now!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks

  18. Hi Tolley,

...my mom will have the card and copies of my husband's passport, working permit etc... But no way to present her son-in-low !!!

A quick ask though: later, did Thai airway return you the ticket money that you paid with company card? full amount?... Just curious.

  19. Urgent help needed!

I just bought an e-ticket for my mother on Thai Airway website with the payment of my husband's credit card.

Later, I noticed: that the card holder also must be present during check in.

My husband will not be travelling with my mother. So, will my mother really meet trouble when she checks in ? (She can present the card, but can't present the holder !!!)

Or, is there any authorization letter etc will help ? Any one had such experience before ?

PS: 7 years ago, I was in Koh Samui airport with same situation (with Bangkok Aiwarys). But no problem at all. Not sure if it is still so now...

    Thanks a lot in advance

    Susan
