  2. I asked HR to inform SS of the change and the docs SS requested were Thai ID, former ID registered with them (in my case ID in yellow tabien baan) and the naturalization cert. As they dont issue physical cards now, I believe you will need to make the change or they wont be able to find your ID in the system when you need to use it.
  3. Quick update. Applied for Thai passport and cancelled visa at Chaeng Wattana today successfully. 1. For Thai passport, they wanted to look at my current passport, blue tabien baan and ID. Process was quite smooth, paid 1,500 thb for a 10 yr passport & 40 baht for EMS fee. Total 1,540 thb. 2. Then proceeded to Building B to cancel visa. Long queue today, and officers there requested copies of Thai ID, blue Tabien Baan, Naturalization Cert & RG announcement. Officer though kindly made copies which I didnt have then proceeded to key furiously into the sustem (apparently to cancel my visa status in the system?) before her superior wrote some Thai into my passport and signed it. No processing fee. As I walked out of immigration, I kissed it goodbye as that should be the last time I will be there. Above process / requirement in case someone finds it useful.
  4. Hmmm you are right its probably for 5 yrs. The date of issue must be when the driving license was first issued, which probably caused my initial confusion. Issue date and expiry date on my license is >10 yrs apart so that must be it. Sorry for the confusion.
  5. Mine was showing my passport number so I updated it as DLT branch was near to the khet. Do they still issue lifetime driving licenses here? Mine is for 10 years. I renewed once and you have to sit thru a 1 hr video showing gross accident videos, pass the colour test, braking test and the other test with the strings before they renew it for you.
  6. Thanks! It seemed not too long ago when I had to park at Central and walk over in the heat over to SB. Its been a process filled with red tape, but a worthwhile process. To all those who are going to apply / already applied, just have patience and dont worry too much.. you will get to the finishing line soon!
  7. Reached khet at 08:30am as per appointment and got myself moved to blue tabien baan + thai ID issued by noon with no further hiccups. Then sent required docs to HR so they will update revenue department, social security, group insurance on my behalf. Also asked them to cancel WP. Thereafter went to update driving license and also got an appointment for passport for 21st Sept at Chaeng Wattana. Purposely chose this place so I can also head to immigration to cancel visa on the same day. Long day but quite satisfied with the amount of things done. Will leave the rest for another day..
  8. A little bit off-topic. Is there a visa for parents of naturalized thai citizens? My parents can get 30 days but they would like to stay longer and spend more time with their granddaughter as I havent brought her back in recent times due to covid-19. Besides retirement visa, are they eligible for non o (visit thai family?) I read somewhere that this particular visa is applicable only for children who are minors (less than 21 yrs old) and i am obviously older than that. Tried searching the forum with no luck so just trying my luck to see if anyone here knows.. Sorry for the off-topic post..
  9. Just a quick update that khet called and made an appointment for this Wednesday to move into blue tabien baan and get new Thai ID. Hopefully everything goes smoothly..
  10. You will need your embassy to endorse an "intention to renounce citizenship" document which is required as a supporting doc for Thai citizenship process. But that is just that (i.e. an intention). Many here have gotten Thai Citizenship and have not needed to forgo their original citizenship. Just dont screw up where your past & present will then be digged up and used against you..
  11. Probably not that exhausting if he already got his ID. District office called the wife to say that report all done up and now awaiting phu yai to sign before calling us again to make an appointment. Shld be later this week or early next week he claims. Since he called as opposed to us having to follow up, I am optimistic it shld be all over soon ????
  12. Call me a hyprocrite if you will, but I have found out that the best way of getting things done here is with calmness, courtesy and wais. As an example, I have always used work permit to renew my extension of stay, but 2 years back immigration had a new regulation not accepting work permit from a different province (my tabien baan is in bangkok, my work permit in samut prakan). Another foreigner was making a scene and he was sent along his way to prepare 400k in bank docs, while as I was on my last day of visa, explained politely to officers that my work place is only a few km away from my home, albeit with some delay as they consulted higher ups i managed to get my extension the very day. My wife called me a hypocrite when I went on a long barrage during the car journey back home about how ridiculous the new regulations are. Morale of the story is that keeping calm and courtesy will go a long way to getting things done here. Just my 2 cents.
  13. Like most here who have been here a decade or more, I'm sure all of us have encountered some form of red tape / bureaucracy. Even the yearly extensions of visa / work permit is an example where we have to submit physical copies of docs (coming from where I come from, all data between government agencies are linked and all we have to do is just fill up a form online). However, the very reason why we embarked on this journey to get citizenship is because we now feel part of this society, and thus lets just embrace both the good & bad as we become "kon thai". Jai yen yen - I'm sure we will all get our Thai IDs. We are already 3-4 yrs in the process, whats another month? Good luck, stay calm and I'm sure everything will turn out smoothly in the end...
  14. Same. Most didnt had a clue and we were given run-around. Cant fault them though as they were really "chirpy" and seemed excited to help / find out more. Finally landed at someone who had the knowledge but he needed time to do up paperwork or so he claimed.
  15. Update 01 Sept - Collected cert today at SB then headed direct to district office. Given the "run-around" there until someone took up our case. Interviewed us and said will call us to come back again once he finished the paperwork (already 4pm after he verified docs etc). He says the next time will move to blue tabien baan and get blue ID same day. He said it would not take long, exchanged contact numbers and we were along our way. Keeping fingers crossed that not much more red tape to cut.. will update on progress along the way.
  16. Thank you for your advise! Will just do that if time permits..
  17. Wifey got a call from SB officer saying can collect cert from tomorrow onwards and just to give him a heads up before going. Can I head to district office directly after collecting?
  18. @david143 We are already on the final leg of this exciting journey. After cert and a few more hoops to cross at the district office, we will finally be what we set out to be, so lets embrace the culture that makes all Thais unique - Jaiyenyen. ????
