  1. The cause of the so called Mid life Crisis was self delusion, and coming to Thailand, truly believing its going to be a Paradise on earth existance,

When the Crisis is over ,you realise it was only a half truth, and being too mentally unstable to understand this at the time.

  2. If she was on a settlement visa there would be no problem , although you would have to pay until your lady /wife had been in the UK for a year , then she would be entitled to education ,My wife was only here for 3 months and enrolled on an ESOL course , But that was on a settlement visa, Now she is on her second ESOL course , because after she has done level 2 she does not have to do the Life in the UK test , As far as i am aware,

    Agreed Thongkorn:

That is exactly my understanding as well, having read the UKBA information.

Obtaining a step up to level 2 entitles the applicant to apply for ILR,once the probationary 2 years is up,without having to sit the Life in the UK Test.

  3. Rich

    Type in the following search:

    "British Birth Certificates"

There are numerous websites, dealing with your query available.

    Such as Direct.gov

Home Office Identity & Passport Office General Register Office

Dealing with Registering the Birth of Children Born Abroad.

    etc etc

The only advantage I can see,is that it will save you time when you arrive in the UK,and appears to be cheaper, applying direct.

    Good Luck

  4. Anone having a cheap go at the Royals or any other respectable public figure should get the same dose of medicine you would get if you did it on here. Punished

But why oh Why do countries spend so much time and money blocking sites like adults sites gambling sites etc/

Adults should have the right to do as they wish if it harms no one but themselves. if that's what they want to do,It's their lives at the end of the day.

No one seems to be doing anything about the amount of misleading sites con men are puting up day after day making it near impossible to find what you are looking for.

    .

Try searching for X and Y comes up offering insurance ets and it's got nothing to do with what you were looking for.

If someone is in the news they use their name to to bring up their site where they are selling some crappy product or to get hits which make them money.

Try finding a missing windows file, or after catching malware, spyware a virus etc. try and find the file removal intructions etc

    what do you get.?

Page after page after page of people telling you blatant lies that their registry fixer will cure your problem. Put in sh-i-t.exe and they'll say download it here.

Of course their program finds 100's problems and the only way you can remove them is buy there product. You panic you buy it you just been robbed and you still got the malware to attend to.

Misrepresentaion is a crime. Losing you wages playing poker isn't in most countries that's a choice. (albeit a very stupid one)

The authorites and the ISP should be constantly blocking and removing these sites so their customer and citizens are protected, not trying to stop them googling sexy susan.

Consumers put Billions of dollars into paying for a service and instead of protecting them they censor them. Something aint right.

Yes: 100s of system registry problems, created so you buy their product, much the same as the phoney massive Virus hype out there.

All designed to make you ....paranoid about Viruse's,personally in 20 years of Computing,I have only ever had 1 proven Virus on the many Systems I have had over the years.

And that goes for all the operating systems I have used,Dos 6.2,Windows for workgroups,Win 95,Win 98,Win 2000,Win Millenium,Win XP, and now Windows Vista.

I have Used many of the Virus scanners out there too, about a dozen, and none of them has picked up anything, bar the 1 mentioned.

Considering 90% of my computer use is on the Internet, Surely I can't be the only Computer User who has been lucky to be virtually Virus free for all this time?

I'm now on the MS Essentials free Virus Program,(after 6 months use, guess what? found nothing yet!)I got sick of paying these scaremongers, for yet another Virus program.

  5. Moreover, Chinnaworn is completely wrong to suggest that the countries that use English are former British colonies.

Take the Scandinavian countries, for example; they have never once been invaded by the British and yet still opted for English as their second language.
Why? Because it makes sense to them commercially, diplomatically, educationally, logistically - the list goes on.

As an Englishman born and bred, whatever mix of genes that may be I would like to point out that we were in fact invaded by the Vikings more than a time or two,

Those Vikings were of Nordic extraction and like their later followers the Romans the Normans and a few other motley crew of insurgents they left their genetic stamp upon us having conquered and colonised us.

Yet at the end of the day English is the second language of the area from whence these aforementioned came from. It proves that being invaded and indeed colonised is perhaps not such a bad thing after all.

Whether we like it or not there is no such thing as a pure bred Englishman, American ,Italian , Frenchman, Thai Singaporean, Burmese, Russian or even Chinese or Thai.

We are all mongrels, descended from strays that roamed around on sea or land, nationalism is the defence of the failure of a person or a state to actually be able to compete in the world..

To be a good patriot, a man must consider his countrymen as God's creatures, and himself as accountable for his acting towards them.Bishop Berkeley,

Patriotism is the virtue of the vicious .Oscar Wilde

"Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel." And don't forget common criminals and charlatans.

The author points out that Scandinavia was never colonized by England, and then you make a point of contradicting him by pointing out that Vikings invaded Britain?

Please give me some ESL Thai students posting here. At least they make sense...

    S

The Vikings did indeed Invade Britain and furthermore,Colonised the British for 267 years!

Followed by the Roman Colonisation, 400 years, and the Normans etc, making the full Colonisation of the British, up to 900 years in total.

So no surprise of the choice of second language, for the above.

Thailand will have to make their own choice,

Considering the heavy financial Chinese influence in their Country? who knows what the best choice may be?

  6. Quite simply

Correlation does not imply causation. (eschew obfuscation)

You had some form of disorientation. It happened when you smoked a cigarette. It does not mean the cigarette caused it. You should see a Dr.

If I were to give well meaning medical advice I would have a PET scan done at the least as well as an EEG and EKG.

You beat me to it there, the symptoms the OP was referring to,are also partly what happens during a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack) or commonly referred to as a Mini Stroke. Definately a check at the Doctors is needed!

If only for peace of mind.

  7. Funny to me those so critical, while claiming money from the same system they criticize.. For Thais too..

Tried a Thai pension lately ?? Or claiming on a Thai wifes pension to support her farang husband

    How right you are livinLOS:

There are so many of these Ex unpatriots on this Forum, that use any old excuse to jump on the Slagging off Bandwagon, and put down their own Country, where they got their money to live on, in Thailand, in the first place.

Sad,Bitter, Losers from the UK,who laughingly think, that the UK Residents and their Society will miss them,or even notice their absence. They remind me of Kids at school, who were losing at the game of Marbles,"boo hoo im not playing anymore"

Wait till they run out of money,or get serious Sick,or need their Pension, then they will be scurrying back home like Sewer Rats. Proclaiming how Patriotic they always were, while living in Thailand, and what a terrible place Thailand is.

These people are professional Whingers/Whiners,who do this to mock the people back in their own Country, its a case of I'm alright Jack,..look how smart I am,living in Paradise, and all of you are jealous,..Arn't I a clever boy!

As you will know, there are many Topics on here concerning" Go home if you dont like Thailand" (or you have something to say that you dont like about it)

So i'm saying to them: Stay, and Rot in Thailand, and enjoy the Thai Welfare State for Farangs!

Stay away,... the UK is better off without your incessant, mean spirited,Treachery to the Country ,please...................

    "DONT COME BACK"

    Theres a good chap!

  8. My answer was to Sergeiy, who seems to think any British living abroad should feel happy to have a Pension,as if its some kind of Government gift

No, but the boom in house prices that has to be paid for by my generation and those just being born was a gift to yours ... or should that be something you voted to steal.

I think its very sad that younger people can't afford high priced housing in this day and age,

but thats nothing to do with a Government Pension that one has worked all their life for,and earned.

I personally didn't vote to steal anything, and I don't understand exactly what it is you are alluding to?

Unless you are referring to Council House Sell off /Vote Buying?

Either way, I never had one to sell!

  9. I think that all the British retirees here whose only source of income is the state pension need to take a long hard look at themselves.

If you did not have the foresight to plan additional incomes then really you only have yourself to blame and probably your best bet is to return to the motherland and get sucking on that welfare tit.

    Nothing sucks like socialism.

For sure you have missed the point being made totally  but as it seems you are one of Maggie Thatchers young entrepreneurs, I will leave it at that. :)

Likewise. I'm reminded of all that offensive cr*p, which the yuppies used to love to spout in those days, about "if it isn't hurting - then it isn't working". I used to wish then, and still do, that those insensitive twits might one day find themselves, in need of a 'helping hand' themselves. A safety-net is a whole different thing, from rampant communism, or 'socialism' as these God-fearing tea-gardeners seem to call it these days. :ermm:

Although I do know some, I would seriously doubt that many British retirees here are totally dependant upon the state-pension, certainly I'm not yet retirement-age myself, having stopped working at 50, to enjoy the fruits of my labours !

But I can still spot an injustice, when I see one, and speak out about it. I'm British ... that's one of the things we still are free to do ... despite our country having gone 'down the gurgler', which seems to me to be the way of all 'global-leaders', in the end. B)

Agree. I pride myself in looking at stuff from everybody's perspective and not just my own. People who slag off ordinary guys trying to get through life the best they can really pisses me off.

In the UK,the most expense out lay is a house, they have a job so they buy one, they lose their job and perhaps lose their house, it's a gamble, same as some who move to LOS and find the pound crashes by 30% and have a problem, no different to the guy in UK and his house dilemma and for those who come on board and slag them off cos they are well off is appalling in my eyes.

    Well said,Transum & Ricardo.

Paper Shuffling Corporate Crooks, whose fortune was paid for by the losses of the same people they despise.

  10. If any Brits spot him in a bar, they might perhaps care to 'bend his ear' over a Chang, about the iniquity of the UK-Pension being frozen, for those of us who dare to chose to live in this wonderful country ? :realangry::whistling:B)

You can be happy to get a pension at all, but why should a 'state pension' paid for people living abroad?

Because I left school at 15 and started work for the next 40 years, whilst doing so I paid NI contributions and UK taxes,

Good enough reason? or have you done better?

All British state pensioners pay into the National Insurance fund under exactly the same rules.

All British state pensioners qualify for their state pension under exactly the same rules.

When it comes time to pay out the pension, different rules are applied depending on the country of residence.

    Britannia Waives the Rules!

The Philippines uprated - Thailand frozen. USA uprated - Australia frozen. Switzerland uprated - Canada frozen. Israel uprated - South Africa frozen. The list goes on and on.

Over 40 countries in the world have their pensions uprated each year just as if they were living in the UK. The rest including most of the Commonwealth countries have their pensions frozen.

Yes Pierre,I am aware of all you stated on your Post,

My answer was to Sergeiy, who seems to think any British living abroad should feel happy to have a Pension,as if its some kind of Government gift, which is not the same as having worked for it,and earned it for 40 years, and of course I disagree with the frozen pension,on retiring abroad, its discrimination!

  11. If any Brits spot him in a bar, they might perhaps care to 'bend his ear' over a Chang, about the iniquity of the UK-Pension being frozen, for those of us who dare to chose to live in this wonderful country ? :realangry::whistling:B)

  12. ... the UK is the most surveiled country on earth)

    Its News to me!

Can you produce the Evidence on that statement.?

Really, a surprise? Well back in 2006 a group of academics with the title the Surveillance Studies Network, presented a report to the 28th International Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners' Conference in London, hosted by the Information Commissioner's Office. As exemplars, the report provides the following pieces of data:-

4.2 million CCTV cameras in the UK, which equates to 1 for every 14 people.

a person may be captured on over 300 cameras in a day.

By the by Privacy International literally applies the colour black to the UK [an Endemic Surveillance Society] in terms of being viewed as the worst country in the EU in terms of privacy protection.

    Regards

PS This was when the then UK Data Commissioner used the phrase "sleep-walk[ing] into a surveillance society".

Source McCahill, M. and Norris, C. (2003), 'Estimating the extent, sophistication and legality of CCTV in London', in M. Gill (ed.) CCTV, Perpetuity Press.

Source Norris, C and Armstrong, G. (1999), The Maximum Surveillance Society: The Rise of Closed Circuit Television, Oxford:Berg.:42

Most of the CCTV Camera's are placed in the inner Cities,to prevent, and apprehend Terrorists, and prevent attacks, and there has been enough of those attacks In London over the years to name but one City,in the UK.

CCTV numbered 10,000 in London at the last count.and they are also used for traffic jam report purposes, crime fighting etc.

The population of London is 7.5- 8 Million, that works out at 1 Camera to every 800 Citizens, that hardly works out at 1 to every 14 Citizens as the Author states, considering London would certainly have the most Cameras installed, than any other single area of the UK.

Also the above figures, were they counting Business?,that routinely Protect their property by CCTV? a full breakdown of the

CCTV figures and uses, would need to done to show what could be classed as Spy Cameras, per se,as the study implies.

I dont believe these Cameras are to Spy on Citizens Owellian style, which is a different thing entirely.

I fully agree with Citizens Privacy, but on the street, going about your business is hardly Private in my view.

As usual figures can be massaged to suit any point of view.

  13. ;)

mmm well I was only paying tax while I was working so I guess that doesnt help, as for a PR I wouldnt know where to start.

Bloody hel_l Im 27 and trying to plan a future here seems impossible

From what i have experienced in thailand your no more than dirt . just fork out your money and be happy . you will never own anything in this country . and even if you did somehow sooner or later the thais will have it . dont expext to get anything out of thailand .

    Spot on!

Apart from a Car or Motorcyle in your own name if you have the relevant Visa

  14. IMO anyone so desperate to want to own land here @ 40,000,000 baht investment is even crazier than someone who wants Thai Citizenship.

There is no really worthwhile gain for either course of action.

Yes I know, get Thai Citizenship and you can buy land, and no more Visa runs,

Big Deal! i'll stay Patriotic to my own Country, thanks.

And use my money for concrete investments, not Clay land and promises!

  15. Freedom of speech cannot and should not be controlled, the end of freedom of speech is the end of freedom itself and ensures that a small number of demons have control over the masses. Not only that, but it is an utter waste of time and money blocking websites as it does not work. There isn't a single person in China with a brain who cannot access what they want via VPN / remote desktop etc to a jurisdiction where they can see as much content as any other western internet user can. China with all it's might and wealth have failed in this regard because it technically isn't possible, but the ICT thinks it can succeed, sure it can.

I wonder which government acronym is responsible for the garbage soaps where someone gets stabbed, beat up or shot in every episode normalising this behaviour. I never used to believe watching violence on TV had any bearinng on actual violence commited, but I've revised my opinion since coming to Thailand to live and seen what I've seen. Dealing with this garbage TV would be a better use of time and money than trying and susequentty failing to block internet sites and spying on its own citizens (yes I know this goes on the world over and the UK is the most surveiled country on earth). But despite being highly surveiled I dont know of a single website that is blocked in UK.

IMO this coupled with the recent refusal to adopt English as the second language in schools is more proof of those in power using every stoneage trick in the book to keep the masses uneducated and uninformed for easier subjugation. God forbid the masses here are informed and educated, nope can't allow that.

    Its News to me!

Can you produce the Evidence on that statement.?

  16. The liberation of the Falklands is a sterling example. Against terrible odds, and in difficult conditions the courage and bravery of HM defense forces liberated an island invaded by faciast thugs. The UK didn't just liberate the Falklands, they also enabled the return of elections in Argentina.

Hardly, and any idea that Britain still stands for "justice and freedom" disappeared when the UK took part in the unjustified invasion of Iraq.

Prior to the Argentian invasion negotiations were already well under way between Britain and Argentina to hand over sovereignty of the Falklands to Argentina (without consulting the islanders). Galtieri, however saw the invasion as the only way he could remain in power and either avoid elections entirely or avoid losing at the elections, and was never prepared for a military conflct.

The campaign could possibly have been avoided and a negotiated settlement reached, brokered by the US, had the political decision not been taken to sink the Belgrano, which was outside the exclusion zone and heading away from the Falklands.

Without belittling the courage, bravery or ability of the British troops, the odds were hardly "terrible". With the exception of the limited Argentine Air Force and their Exocet missiles, which inflicted the bulk of British casualties, and a very few Argentinian special forces and marines, the Argentine forces were poorly trained and equipped and primarily conscripts who put up little resistance to the far better trained, equipped and supported British ground troops.

    John Leech.

You have stated the facts very well,as the Historians, more or less agree on.

However it should be remembered that PM Thatcher was also in the same position as Galtiera, her popularity had wained, drastically, and she, according to the Political Commentaters had little chance of winning the next Election,so it worked both ways. Whoever lost the Falklands War,would also lose power,as proved to be the case for Galtiera.

Or as some wise man once said: Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoudrel!

In spite of the opinions of some, that Thatchers financial cutbacks, was partly responsible for the war: by lowering the Union Jack, and closing the Weather station, and also calling back the Survey Vessel,on the Falklands at the time.

And thereby signalling to the Argentinians, that Britain was no longer interested in the Falklands.

Even so,The British people were glad to see the Falklands retrieved, for the sake of the Falklanders, myself included.

  17. Why so many farang make the mistake of getting married in the first place? Please list the advantages.

to understand this one must take a look look at the men marrying issan girls. genereally not of superior intteigence---come on:who goes looking for a wife in a bar? and then those they chose have many kids, 2nd grade education and poor families to boot, and look like roadkill.

to understand this one must take a look look at the men marrying Welsh girls. genereally not of superior intteigence---come on:who goes looking for a wife in a bar? and then those they chose have many kids, 2nd grade education and poor families to boot, and look like roadkill.

No wonder men move to Thailand

I once read a research report that made a conclusion regarding the number of attractive women in various countries. In this aspect, Great Britain was listed as one of the worst countries (least number of attractive women per capita).

The interesting thing was that this guy had a theory about the cause of the high number of "less attractive" women in GB compared to other countries. He blamed the Vikings. According to him, the Vikings who raided the British islands brought all the beautiful women with them, and kicked the "less attractive ones" out of the boat. This would explain the ridiculous high number of attractive women in the Nordic countries.

I don't know if anything of this is true, but I do know that if I wanted to find a woman, Wales certainly wouldn't be on my list where I'd start looking.

You could be right about the Vikings, they did Colonise England for 267 years, but then again we do have some of their genes,so their must be a trade off their somewhere, not all of the females got the ugly genes.

  18. It would seem pretty obvious on this Post that the Argentine claim to the Falklands has no foundation whatsoever, either Legally,Strategically,or Morally.

And no doubt if the Islanders had a Referendum on being British or Argentinian, then the vote would be near 100% in favour of remaining British.

An example of a few years ago was Spain, and their claim to Gibraltar,

The then British Foreign Secretary "Jack Straw "was in favour of giving "The Rock" back to Spain, and refused a vote to the British Islanders,

Not to be outdone, they organised their own Referendum, and the result was 99% in favour of remaining British.

Since then I have not heard anything further.
