  1. After many years of Thailand being a grey area for having two Passports? i.e One Thai Passport and one other Country of your country choice,as I understand it this question has never been resolved satisfactorarily,so I am asking if any other members have heard of this! what might turn out to be just another rumour?

  2. Thank for the ideas , please keep them coming ...

Now is there a better place to place the trap ?

I read that they like to stay close to walls and not out in the open ,

    any truth to that ?

I might take the top 3 ideas and try 3 traps and see if any work ,

I tried the BIG glue traps I got at Tops but have not caught any that way either !

I hate when a couple ounce mouse can be so smarter than me ,

Ohh and I do like Tom and Jerry cartoons , and we know how they all end....the mouse wins smile.png

"I read that they like to stay close to walls and not out in the open ,

    any truth to that ?"

    Yes !

  3. It took me a month to figure out why the Mice could take the cheese bait and still get out of the humane trap.

And then I used Edam Cheese (Baby Bel) squash a small, piece into one corner, they spend too much time trying to dig the cheese out, that the door drops on their escape route.

Once caught take your humane trap about half a mile away, from your home and set the mouse free, and don't forget to say goodbye.he will not be back!

PS I didn't have any Rats so I don't know how good this is for them?

  4. I dont think I lost the plot, I just thought I would be more welcome. Last time i was back nobody wanted to hear anything about my life overseas. I am not sure if it is jealousy or fear. I have not changed that much and saying I have burned bridges may not be the correct way to say it. But after we are gone for an amount of time perhpas we are seen as traitors or something. We left the clan and did not contue to go through that hardship

    they deal with.

This is partly true. We are living outside the comfort zones of most people back home. I think people who stay at home are insular in their thoughts and forget about the people who have left. However us expats are different. We've traveled and lived outside our comfort zones and guess what? We're happy!!

We reminisce about our home countries and in our minds and memories time has stood still at home. However, our friends at home have moved on and forgotten about us..When we go back we assume that its the same at home as when we left. But its not. Our friends and family have grown older...So in some ways time has moved on for our friends but in our own minds and memories time froze when we left all those years ago. That's what i discovered after moving home two times in the past ten years. One of the main differences was some of my friends started to be slightly formal with me.Just small things. Like calling me by my first name instead of my nickname. However they were, and are, still my friends. I'm probably lucky because my friends are all childhood friends who still live in my small village. They will probably never leave so they are always happy to see me....

In conclusion I think Time is what changes everything even more than distance. That and a lack of contact. The internet has shortened the distance and changed how we keep in touch. Clicking like on a picture on facebook is a subtle way of contact and helps to keep us alive in the memories of those at home...

Who would want to be kept alive in the memories of something so shallow as social media, which is about as low as true feelings get! IMHO!

  5. No way around it Luke.

But with preferred shares, voting rights, pre-signed and non-dated share transfer forms, resignation letters, signed ID copies, you can have some level of control of your company.

Of course, you may want to also have "loan" documents where the Thais have "loaned" the money from you to be valid shareholders (i.e. they bought shares), otherwise having Thai nominees is also not legal...assuming they did not contribute financially to the company.

But a Thai that is bent on causing you problems can cause you a lot of problems if they know how to...

    No way around the 49/51...

Stupid xenophobic Thai laws and they want foreign investment but refuse to give rights. They are scared for real competition based on competence.

I'm with Thais on this one, they are not going to lose their country by being bought out on the cheap like so many western countries!

  6. Below is based on Global retirement index, Thailand no 10 and Spain no 7:

    http://finance.yahoo.com/news/the-best-countries-to-retire-in-2015-170424541.html

Spain can be cold during the winters so as mentioned, if one can afford to share the time between the 2 countries that would be ideal.

If you can live in Thailand as a Thai, eating Thai food only, Thailand will be cheaper to live in(I can't, LOL).

I don't know what cars/bikes cost in Spain? If you stick with Thai made cars/bike the price is cheap for me here in Thailand.

I work in oil off-shore and pay 0% tax here in Thailand and save app 30-40% of my income for retirement, not possible if living in Spain.

A speeding violation in car/bike is about 500-1000baht here, it would likely be the same in Spain but in Euros, he-he.

As a EU citizen many advantages of living in Spain as mentioned: Stay as long as you like, no visa's to worry about.

Buy a house and own it 100%, no bullshit as here.

Easy to tour EU from Spain.

    And so on.

Best to go there and look around, check the prices yourself and see if you like it generally.

Except Spain is notorious for building houses with no planning permission, building on land not fit for building on. Houses bearing illegal land papers, beware! many people migrating have been ripped off,and forget the EEC,they will not get your money back.

  7. Having worked on the land when I was younger I don't so much feel lucky, rather I have a great deal of empathy with those working in the rice fields (be they Thai or, very often unregistered ethnic minority Thais / immigrant workers).

Bent over all day planting or harvesting is extremely hard work, the hardest work I've ever done, made harder of course by exposure to the elements.

I wonder what a Thai field worker would have thought had they seen the younger version of GH picking potatoes in frosty ground?

2 Shilling a bag, depending on the Potato size!

  8. Thanks for the replies guys, didn't realise asking for your passport as a deposit was actually illegal! In that case no problem, I will keep it for that purpose.

I've tried to refuse giving it a couple of times, but never worked! And switching to another shop is not easy if you're renting +600cc bikes.

Unlike in the US, where I'm from they just send us the new passport and tell us to cut a corner off the old passport to make it invalid by ourselves.

Yes and they cut the corner off UK Passports in the UK before they return them. It's also doubtful the worth of an expired Passport,as the International front page is in English/Thai,so not too difficult to read!

They don't cut the corners off them when renewed from here; they don't have them to cut the corners off.

So are you saying:you do not have to include your old Passport in your application for a new UK Passport? applied for from Thailand???

  10. You are not in Faraangland anymore.

Your values and culture did not fit in your suite case when you came here..they are not here.

    You have three options:

    1) Learn how to behave.

    2) Leave the country.

    3) Die

    Up To You!

Very glib Willy ! your options are non existent, unless we all follow willyumiii, law and agree with your ridiculous arguments, I doubt anyone will die just to please you!

  11. OP, may be you want to say that "We" pretend not to be racists and yes, you are right to say that "We" have got laws in our countries that do not allow us to be racists.

By reading comments about the Thais on TVF, including mine, then you can see if "We" are racists or not.

Immigration rules in Thailand are not racist but they are trying to safeguard their own people.

Also there are quite a few foreigners that have been awarded Thai citizenship the same as back in our own countries.

Also using the term "We" shows that we differentiate ourselves from the natives.

    Is that racism?

"immigration rules in Thailand are not racist but they are trying to safeguard their own people."

And so are the UK,and USA, and Australia and many other Countries ,but the Racist label is freely available, because the accusers of Racism thrive on Racist taunts, just because it suits their argument and cause, and is a very useful tool to gag the opposition!

"Also there are quite a few foreigners that have been awarded Thai citizenship the same as back in our own countries".

Costas ! When you can give official figures,of how many foreigners have Thai Citizenship, then you will have something to go on,as it is you are talking hearsay, from what I can gather (my following comment may also be hearsay) "only a tiny few get Thai Citizenship"which is protracted to ridiculous lengths, stretching over many years!

"only a tiny few get Thai Citizenship"

Now you are accusing Thai people of discrimination based on size as well as nationality and race?

I guess in your mind, since most Thai people are short, they do nt want tall people to become Thai citizens?cheesy.gif

    ( sarc )

I said nothing of the sort, size was never mentioned, neither was nationality and race,in the context you are suggesting!

  13. Friendships, like marriage need input. If not, they slowly fade away.

Frankly, if someone contacted me after being away seven years and asked me to put them up, I'd make excuses, too.

It rather depends on your mutual memories, I remember conversations from ten years ago! call it living in the past,if you like, but I can be in a conversation with a friend of 5-7-10 years and I can still have a good conversation.

  14. I admit this is the cynical me coming out,but just say you won the Lottery, wouldn't this thread become obsolete ?and we would all be inundated with long lost family, friends clammering to enquire as to our health and whereabouts!
