  1. I'd be surprised if Bangkok or Pattaya doesn't win it.

Issan will win for the sheer amount of Europeans married to the naive farm girls of that area and also the naive europeans who are supporting whole families there.

And many have wives/g/f's that work for the government (Hospitals, teaching, civil servants), and in the service industries etc, that may outnumber those from the farms. Personally in my experience few are married to farm girls. Perhaps that is because I live on the outskirts of a city and the majority of expats appear to live in the cities too.

  2. And the good deeds and decisions are pouring in every day.

Does any of the TVF members listen to what is happening or the needle has stuck on.......we want democracy, we want democracy......................

Wake up, fellow members, democracy will come when this country is ready to accept it.

For the moment is a lot to be done and this government is dealing with it and delivering.thumbsup.gif

    "delivering"?

call us when you see truly poor farmers on the land working it, living there, making money with all the correct paperwork.

i would say they have delivered less than 5% of all the "talk" they've spouted, which is good and a start

    but

try to be sensible and realistic in your praise

Suggest you try to be sensible and realistic in your assumption of <5% particularly as many of the projects are WIP.

  3. talking is fine but its the actions we need before we can say well done. Lets see these corrupt owners have all their assets seized, compensation in the millions taken from it and then thrown in jail, until then it is simply spin

You are just forgetting, that without the original holders of this land illegally selling the land, no crime would ever have been committed.

The present owners actually paid money (peanuts) for the land, they didn't steal it!!

So the guys who should be headed for jail here, are those who sold the Kings land.

And now they are going to repeat it all over again, giving land to landless farmers(!!) and in 10 years time it will all belong to big landlords again. Only this time they will be wearing yellow shirts!!

For sure it is no coincidence that the crackdowns are only taking place in the North and North East, while Mr Suthep & Co are left alone!!

It would be fair to assume that the same criteria will apply to this land as that recently allocated to poor farmers. THEY WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO SELL IT. Therefore your assertion is worthless.

  4. . . . few of the rich people who buy the luxury goods pay much tax, if any at all. They contribute as little as they can to society and prefer to spend their not-so-hard-earned money on Dior dresses rather than helping society move forward and increasing the quality for all involved

Pure BS from yet another clueless farang talking on matters he knows nothing about from the best vantage point he knows . . . his reclining armchair rolleyes.gif

    http://www.bbc.com/news/business-16260782

In terms of percentage of population, Thailand was the most generous, with 85% of Thais making regular charitable contributions.

I wonder if all those who give are poor.

Poor people in Thailand are known to donate a lot relative to their available funds. A rich person making millions or more who donates a percent or two of his enormous, untaxed income to the local temple doesn't impress me much. Or do you think those 85% of Thais are all rich people?

As for clueless farang... oh well...

It appears that according to your post there are only the rich and poor in Thailand. That's very strange as from personal knowledge over many years I keep stumbling across the middle classes. Maybe you have eliminated them in your neck of the woods?

  5. Totally agree with slapout above. A while ago we had a similar banner setup in the village. Unfortunately it was placed directly at a junction in such a way that it was impossible to see oncoming traffic when you attempted to exit a side road.

Looks a though they may have hit the concrete post the banner was attached to.

They also place signs at a height suitable to scalp you over the pavements. Can only surmise that to qualify for the job you have to be sub 5 feet tall.

  6. Save your money and install Open Office 4, it's FREE and totally compatible with MS Office etc, etc. Furthermore it will be genuine s/w! Oracle is a very big provider of s/w including Java.

Check it out before you waste your time and money. You'll wish you changed to Open Office years ago.

  7. Why is no-one using the new online process?

It supposedly went live five days ago...................

Maybe, just maybe it's in some people's interest NOT to promote it if every visitor is charged (read fleeced) of 20> 50b a time under the counter?

    Just a thought?

What's this about 20 baht every time or do you just offer it? I've had to use 4 different Imm. offices and never paid once and don't know anyone else who has either.

  8. Post to arrive 2 weeks before....not 1.

To be posted 15 days before due date, check your facts. Also if it arrives before the due date they will on occasion give your next 90 day report from date received so you end up with, say 80 days. EMS usually takes no more than 3-4 days by road (Thursday to Monday over weekend) ) although if by air via Suvarnabhumi it can sit there for up to 10 days!

  9. I thought Vitamin D is produced when you are in the sun.....Would staying more in the sun help?

    You are right!!

If living in Thailand you won't need to take supplements. All you need to do is get out in the sun for between 15 - 20 minutes a day between 12.00 and 3.00 PM with about half of your body uncovered.

Doing it naturally is the best possible way (and its free).

As long as you don't get burnt, going a slight pinky colour is fine, then it is actually reckoned to be protective against a variety of cancers (including skin cancer believe it or not). If you are doubtful or unconvinced by what I am saying then feel free to check this out on the internet by putting the relevant words into a search engine and making an informed decision as to whether it is right for you - I do this myself BTW as I appreciate how dangerous being vitamin D deficient can be and am lucky enough to be residing in a country that has sun all year round.

You do not need to go out in the sun during the heat of the day and if you're fair skinned you'll burn. 30 minutes a day in the early morning and/or before sunset is quite sufficient. Wearing shorts, flip flops and shirtless of course!

As far as I'm aware taking vit D supplements is not the real answer and are mainly prescribed for the housebound.

  10. Oh nooo, more bad news for thai aviation.

Who will fly with any of them from now on? Not me or my collegues....

But this happened saturday? Then why it's in the news on tuesday??

Because the journalist are afraid of being shot by a certain prime minister/general.

Cheap shot, much? Member for nine years and 895 posts. That's a hundred posts a year. I think you are a troll.

Some of us have better things to do than spend our lives on TVF. Another kbd warrior generalising.

  11. i have had wills drawn up in the uk as well as thailand.if you want part of your estate to go to your son in the uk.you get one drawn up in the uk.you have a copy in english for him and have it translated in thai for your wife.

then as you want your wife to recieve 50% as well, you get one drawn up in thailand with a copy going to your son translated to english.

make sure you stipulate on both english/thai wills that you have made one in your own country as well as thailand.

funnerals in thailand are money making, where all the family and relatives come out of the woodwork to get what they can.

so tell your wife she and nobody else are to collect the ENVELOPES.

see other post about carving up the assets

see section 19 of the Condo Act in case you are thinking of leaving a condo to someone living outside of Thailand

PLUS UK law on death duties

    ohhhhhhhhhh headache

what i got in the uk.stays there and the same here.i have seen the bickering that goes on if you want to call it that.

so put it in black and white from the start.

then if your extended family want to fight so be it.no need for you to worry.coffee1.gif

I presume that you have taken due account of Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 ?

I guess that you have also taken care to cross-reference the Wills and ensure that one Will does not negate the other. You can, obviously, only have one last Will and testament if you have revoked all others.

I have two Wills one in the UK with the UK executors that takes care of all my assets there and cross refers that it is not negated by my Thai Will or vice versa. A copy of it is kept with my UK Will writer. There is also a Thai Will that looks after my assets in Thailand and that is written in English and Thai on a paragraph by paragraph basis. It also cross refers to my English Will with the same reference about not negating it. As my wife is the main beneficial with only a small bequest to one other person she has a copy of the Will. The main assets are the house, land and bank accounts. As she has her own income and bank accounts there is no problem with my accounts being frozen.

  12. China is rising, the West in decline. The old empires are fading, just as the old European powers such as Britain, France, Germany faded in the 20th century to be replaced by the US and Russia, now those powers wane as well. Asia is the future, and China will be the major power in that realignment....

China has its own problems if you care to check. However, they are trying to do something about it. Not sure what the US is doing about its own problems apart from spending ever more and more $'s.

  13. You will have to like very much the all wheel drive system and the sport handling to appreciate Subaru. Comparing with any other brand, only to the much expensive Audi or Range Rover. It is true that imports brands like GM, Ford, Hunday, Suzuki, and Subaru, and others, may leave the Thai market if cannot compete with other brands. That's the risk. But also is true that Honda,Toyota and Isuzu are overpriced in Thailand. Nissan, instead, offers very nice cars and trucks for the money.

You forgot to mention the Mitsu Pajero Sport. Better equipped and cheaper too. They're certainly popular up in Isaan and the service centres are good too.

  14. Different taste but I would never live in a stand alone house in Thailand.

You have to build it like a fortress to avoid burglary.

There's good and there's bad mobaans, I prefer the good ones.

Not true. We built a house on a 30x30 m plot with walls all around, a gate and proper windows and doors uPVC double glazed, The neighbour across the road is a school for the handicapped with a village behind us 100m away. We do have security lighting but no need for anything else. Previously my wife lived in a detached bungalow in a small village.
