  1. I just had fasting blood-tests, but my doctor warned me that my results indicated I was heading toward diabetes. He recommended a Mediterranean diet. I went gradually Vegan, but once I fully cut out the chicken, fish, beef, milk, yogurt and cheese the pounds came off faster I. still have a little ice cream and cinnamon once in awhile. My blood pressure is down to an average of 106/72 and on my next semi-annual office visit I hope the cholesterol will be so low that the Doc will discontinue cholesterol meds.

  2. Not diabetic, but trying to avoid it by going vegan as I was obese and heading in that direction. Breakfast is usually Old fashioned oats and fruit, usually some banana, apple, red grapes, cinnamon, kiwi, mango, oranges depending on prices at the grocery store. Very effective for me, lost 16% of weight since November 2012.

Have tried a lot of diets but vegan works and keeps me healthy. See diet gurus below starting at about 48 minutes 32 seconds into the video.

  3. Youtube has presentations by even Bernstein's "truth" and its free. Also, Amazon and other books sites have customer reviews and comments on each of these methods. No need to spend a lot of time and money experimenting or risking your health with unhealthy eating if you comprehend those resources. Sounds to me like these doctors recommend: exercise like riding a bike in safe area, eating plant based whole (unprocessed) foods, testing, and seeing your doctor frequently as your diet changes to determine adjustments needed with any medications you take. If you don't exercise and clean up what you consume, then it appears doctors can only try to help you with meds. Up to you.

  4. So do your own research, but you could go to McDougall's website and find references to supporting studies. It will take you a little time to navigate within his website and click on the tab called medical info and and then any of the subject areas and read the supporting note that provides specific references to the studies that you may Google and read. That's as much help as you can expect for free from a respected expert in his field sharing presentations to other medical professionals with supporting studies that makes sense.

There are no guarantees in life, so do you own research and eat whatever you want, its entirely up to you.

  5. Practice of medicine regarding diabetes type 2 is evolving worldwide and some research indicates the consequences can be reversed but the solution reduces profits for drug companies, etc. To me, whether or not that is a reversal of diabetes is a mute point if consequences of diabetes are reversed and medicines can be stopped safely. Here are some doctors discussing plant based diets reversing diabetes consequences.

I don't have any personal experience with diabetes but like plant based diets for longevity.

  6. Starch is important to satiate hunger and give the feeling of fullness so I don't eat too much. My favorite is the sweet potato partly because of its anti-inflammatory rating,

However, other veggies may be a better choice for those looking for starch veggies available in Thailand. Here is a 20 page list of the most nutrient dense satisfying foods in terms of the feeling of fullness (list starts around mid page so scroll down).

  7. There are some good youtube channels on healthy eating mostly recommending cutting out dairy products, meat, fish, chicken and eating green veggies like kale, spinach, and eat starch like sweet potatoes, rice, and potatoes to let you feel full. Here is one doctor's recommendations

  8. My Mom's disciplinary tactic was to give me a whipping with a belt or a hanger (1950s-1960's, Texas). I guess it worked but I never did that to my kids. The older one got an occasional spanking and the younger one just stern talking to for discipline. Now she disciplines her kids with stern talking and time out and that's as effective as any method I have seen.

I guess its true that what you are or do depends on where you were when.

  9. I have been considering replacing my cow milk consumption with soy milk but have run into a lot of articles on the internet like this one listing all the dangers of soy milk like aluminum that can lead to Alzheimer's, phytic acid that prevents absorption of magnesium, calcium, zinc and iron, enzyme inhibiters preventing body's use of protein and on and on with some calling it child abuse to feed soy products to infants.

    http://www.healingdaily.com/detoxification-diet/soy.htm

So I think we will just reduce the amount of milk we consume and switch from whole milk to low fat milk. I will offer the same to my grand kids.

Human breast milk is probably best for kids and then cow's milk up to some age but soy milk, tofu, and other soy products is off the menu from here on until I see research that might disprove the claimed dangers of soy products.

  10. Maybe it is good for children but at some age it becomes harmful, clogging up the arteries and preventing some of our organs like the liver, kidneys, etc. to function well enough to prevent heart disease, cancer, etc. I grew up with it too and still have milk with coffee and have it around for the grand kids too, but I may stop it as this topic is new for me and I am hearing more and more convincing evidence about the harms of milk & meat. Maybe the radiation from Nukes like Fukushima will get me first but I have sworn off tuna and salmon too.

  11. Well I guess if China ever makes a serious move to take over another country then you should get together and have World War III with them, but I don't see it happening, if we just learn to get along with our neighbors, knowing that nothing & no country is perfect.

China has its own internal problems with great income disparity between the rich and poor. It has the brains and productive capacity to solve its problems over time, so they don't need to take over their neighbors & take their wealth as the Europeans did centuries ago. One must always be on guard and not too trusting, but the lines of communication should be open as China is no North Korea and trade can be beneficial to both countries with great opportunities to advance people everywhere thorough negotiation and cooperation without going to war.

  12. I see China as a country who does a lot of good in the world producing cost effective products that we all use. I haven't observed the Chinese government threatening others as the North Korean government does. U.S. may need to move some balance of forces to the Philippines and other locations from Japan due to the Japanese nuclear radiation problems and probability for even worse earthquakes. I don't think its due to any military problems with the Chinese. I don't think it would hurt for Thailand to keep open the lines of communications with the Chinese including military forces.

  13. There are insignificant terrorists' threats coming from Thailand and the killings in the south are regrettable but no more than parts of other countries so there is no basis for saying they are number one on the list. FBI should know that currently North Korea it the number one terrorist with its leader making daily nuclear bomb threats against millions of people living in South Korea, Hawaii, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Austin, Seattle, Japan, etc. Whoever in the FBI put Thailand on the top of such a list and then presented it in public should be fired, or demoted to a position of irresponsibility commensurate with his/her error rate.
