  1. Robotics expands human productivity but you still need a controls electrical engineer to program the robotic functions and others humans to perform maintenance on those robots, researchers and professors to improve knowledge, etc. Robotics makes products more affordable and raises everyone's standard of living. Robotics will not reduce the need for human workers but will stimulate change and work in new areas to further improve our lives.

However, we all need income when we no longer work and one way we can all pursue our passions and careers while working, without each person becoming investment experts and constantly monitoring their investments, is to also have a pension system that frees us to be more productive. Pension plan oversight boards, independent accountants, legislators and regulators aren't doing enough to protect the funds for the intended beneficiaries.

  2. What are you going to do when 50%+ of the elderly in poverty without pensions and/or social security? Its absolutely necessary to have pension plans as many can't save or invest, won't save, or lose their savings for a multitude of reasons and will end up on welfare, become criminals to survive, scavenge garbage dumps, etc.

Abuses have to be stopped in the US like the ridiculous growth in disability benefits that used to go to one in 51 workers who pay in and now goes to one in 13 workers, allowing government workers like Rick Perry Governor of Texas to collect a Governor's Salary and a retirement, annuity at the same time, allowing government employees to juice up their retirement with overtime, excessive salaries or other special pays in the final years of their employment used to calculate their pension benefits, etc. Improper investments for quid pro quo favors and failing to make actuarially required annual employer contributions may also enrich management with undeserved bonuses, kickbacks or continued employment will also cause a retirement fund to become underfunded. Current controls just aren't working.

  3. Rest in Peace Doctor Ketunti.

It is reported elsewhere that Ketunuti's parents were said to be travelling to Philadelphia from Thailand. Her father is Thai and her mother is Belgian. Her family released a statement saying they were "devastated by this senseless act of violence."

"Melissa's friends from childhood, college, residency and elsewhere remember her many kindnesses, even during long hours, as well as her zest for life: traveling, running and spending time with friends and family," the statement said.

"Melissa was a source of joy to everyone in her life. Her passing has left an enormous gap in our lives."

  4. I used one financial website application that wouldn't run for me now that I have uninstalled JAVA. Their website wanted to install the latest JAVA update to run their application, which I declined. Customer service wanted to assure me its safe since they use HTTPS. I doubt that would solve the JAVA security issue so I told them no thanks. Fortunately, they have a new application that uses Adobe Air to provide most of the same information. I hope its more secure than JAVA.

  5. So they ruled out pneumonia in the lung that they think might be cancer? Have you ever had the pneumonia vaccine? I have heard that it is difficult to be sure if it is cancer when observing a mass in the lung on an XRay and they might want to stick a needle in it to determine what it is but then that could deflate the lung and be a problem. The flu can lead to pneumonia. I am no Doc but I would do some research on the best antibiotics for influenza B and pneumonia and be sure you are taking one of them as that might clear up both lungs if it is not cancer.

  6. We are on a city sewer system and don't get that. I suspect something is wrong with your plumbing. In city systems they do a smoke test and inject smoke in the main lines and look for smoke coming out where it shouldn't be to identify broken or cracked pipes. Maybe there is something like that for septic systems. During the smoke testing it is normal to see smoke coming out of the plumbing vent pipes on your roof. Maybe you have a cracked pipe or one not connected properly?

  7. Yes, and the price is volatile as the oil companies try to find alternatives due to the rapid rise in guar bean prices from $1/Pound to $12/Pound. It sounds like guar powder is just ground up guar beans and not difficult to do. The oil and gas companies probably just buy the powder and mix it with their other chemicals on site before injecting it into the oil/gas wells being drilled. With fracking spreading to places like China, etc. new supply channels should be developing in producing countries probably by the same wholesalers in the ag and food processor businesses locally since it is even now used in ice cream. http://www.marketplace.org/topics/sustainability/how-fracking-affects-bean-grown-india

Farming is just risky business so diversification should help. Maybe those beans won't grow well in Thailand?

  8. Also one of the best antioxidant sources next to the little red bean and a good source of protein. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxygen_radical_absorbance_capacity

Also known as a musical fruit because the more you eat the more you toot, the more you toot, the better you feel, so eat beans with every meal! or some variation of that... its good for your heart so cut a ...... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beans,_Beans,_the_Musical_Fruit

  9. Is anyone growing Guar bean in Thailand? Its making farmers rich in nearby India as the oil and gas fracking industry has a new and ever increasing demand for guar gum made from the plants. Demand will soar from $2 billion per year now to $200 billion in 8 years and 90% is now grown in India. There is an interesting CNN video on Guar=black gold here. http://money.cnn.com/2012/12/21/news/economy/epa-fracking/index.html?iid=HP_LN

  10. 10 days before the race they use six 747 cargo jets to fly in 1.2 million pounds of equipment to run the race. Prior to the race local politicians get free trips to other races to observe the monster traffic jams and need for hotels etc. to house the groupies that follow F1 races around the world. It just lasts for a little longer than one weekend. I suspect that if this comes off in BKK, the race track will need to be built not too far from an airport. I think the taxpayer gets taken to the cleaners and the locals spend a lot of their income on an event that doesn't do them any good except to pump a temporary adrenaline charge. http://www.kvue.com/news/First-F-1-Cargo-Jet-arrives-and-public-safety-plan-announced-177746921.html

  11. This British billionaire comes in and sucks up money from the locals and spits out air and noise pollution. He did this recently in Texas and even got $25+ million of government tax money from the politicians.

The only way I would go to see one of his races is if they stretch him out as a speed bump in the first lap.
