  1. in relation to my above comment...

    For Tops patrons:

Currently Tops carries only two flavors of Nana Pasta Sauce (Note: their sister stores, FoodHall, does carry 5 flavors, and not all Tops stores even carry our sauce).

If you shop at Tops, and would like to see additional Nana Pasta Sauce flavors available at your store, please let us know here so we can use your comments as evidence to expand their selection:

If you would be so kind as to help us out, please provide:

    1. The flavor(s) you'd like available (aside from Traditional and Amatriciana, which they already carry) Click on the yellow banner at the top of this forum and then go to our Available Flavors page)

    2. which store location you'd like to see it(them) at

    3. a name that I can use as a reference (doesn't need to be your whole name, or even your real name - simply a first name and initial would be great). The name should at least appear to be realistic - you know, nothing like Casanova Frankenstein, Beer4Ever or the likes... :o

    4. permission to reference and use your comment when dealing with Tops

Thanks greatly to all who participate.

    Chief,

After the Traditional I just tried the Amatriciana. Excellent. I'm writing from Chiang Rai. Our Tops, the big small one has only those tastes. Supported you. Bought half of their shelf stock. Never will buy the other brands anymore. Also my Thai wife said : first class. No problem it is plain and good I can adjust to my taste with a little chilly powder. Good fresh taste. Good herbs. Good price. Of course the Sarge is right with a lot of points but I'm happy you offer this in Thailand. You think my homemade sauce comes out always as good as your sauce just out the bottle. Try Tops to put carefully Olive and Champignon in their assortment. Yes, you can quote me and I will give you a mail on your personnel page with the items under which Tops can reach me.

I wish you good luck. I think you deserve it.

    Cheers,

  2. So then, no one out there has tried these products?

    O yes,

I just did here in Chiang Rai. Our Tops had only two of his kind of spaghetti sauces. I just tried the traditional. Plain on spaghetti. No adjustments. First class sauce according to me. never will be Presto or whatever they are called anymore.

    Cheers,

  3. I recently went to the immigration office at Mae Sai, NOT the one where you go when going over the border to Burma, to report as required with my Non-Imm B Visa. I also took the forms from my landlord so I can get a letter from immigration confirming my address and register my car. The guy said the people who process the forms were off on holiday (Fri Jan 16) but he would get them to do them on Monday Jan 19 and post them to my home in Chiang Rai on Monday afternoon but not received yet. Does anyone have the telephone number of the Mae Sai immigration office please?

    Thanks

  4. sceadugenga and goski,

I will be honored to see you at Don's live and not online. And sceadugenga try the Parma ham. My wife and me use a pound a week. Delicious. I just used it as a variation on the German Schwarzwalder ham recipe with asparagus. Instead of our white European asparagus I used the Thai green ones, not the treetrunks they sell in Big C and Macro but the fine ones sold by Tops. Steam them and just cook some potatoes, a buttersauce and fresh parsley :o .

See you soon guys. Hope it will be a good Saterday night. I organised already a driver nevertheless I live only 4 km from Don's.

    Cheers

  5. Yes,

Me and my wife come there regularly. Buy we enjoy already a long time his first class products and I'm so happy with his bread. Not only a decent price baht 48, incl. VAT, but also a nice crust to bite in and a nice taste inside. I'm speaking about the dark bread. The other breads are also o.k. The same for his meat products. The best steaks I have eaten in Thailand and still there is people saying that good local beef in Thailand is impossible. His cheese is also more then OK and then the price, almost half of that of that "late" Belgium baker.

    Cheers

  6. Absolute BONKERS, a PM being told to step down for hosting a cooking show, another major step backwards for the once land of smiles. The rest of the world may wonder why the courts can prosecute a PM while the athorities take no action against the law breakers (according to the constitution) that are occupying government house ane gathering at many other locations. The world press must be having a real chuckle at this.

The PAD and the like have already cost Thailand Billions of Dollars and respect worldwide, it surely must be time to get of the streets and resolve the this crisis in a Diplomatic and Civilised manner.

pammy123 absolutely right. Thank you. Still somebody not drunk. :o

  7. Hi Chang35baht,

I paid about baht 14,000 for the computer card, bus they have now a USB connection for just over baht 10,000. For the a little bit less then baht 700 I have a real 115kbs connection. Sometimes even going faster. And yes I had to sign a one year contract.

    Cheers

  8. Halo,

Already over a year very happy with CDMA from CAT. Good and friendly service even personally from the project manager David. Live officially to far away to receive them. But provided me with extra antenna I put on a 12 m high pole and they boosted their transmitter on the Rim Kok Hotel a little to help me. For a monthly fee of under baht 700 not bad. Before a went through hel_l with IPStar. Almost baht 3,000 a month in those days and good for nothing.

    Cheers

  9. The Japan Chamber of Commerce finds Thailand least attractive in terms of investment this year

A recent survey of investment feasibility of ASEAN member nations by Japanese investors has found Thailand to be the least likely investment country.

The Japanese Chamber of Commerce recently conducted a survey to determine which nation in the ASEAN community is most suited to investment by Japanese businessmen. Thailand's investment index has fallen dramatically from 2006, with latest figures from January 2007 indicating that Thailand has the lowest investment index among ASEAN nations. A leading Thai financial analyst, Assc Prof Dr. Montri Sokthiyanurak (มนตรี โสคติยานุรักษ์ ) from the National Institute of Development Administration(NIDA) reports that Thailand's investment index has dropped continuously in the last 9 months. Dr. Montri said that Japanese investment in industrial operations and heavy machinery also dropped 26.5% from the year before.

Assc Prof Montri said that the change reflected the shift in economic conditions in the nation and Thailand would need to re-evaluate its performance on the global market and to determine whether its economic policies in the last 2 months were still conducive to international investment. Assc Prof Montri added that the government's economic measures would also need to take into account the private sector, the foreign sector, and members of the public.

He reiterated that the government would need to reinstill confidence and create concrete measures to tackle the nation's economic burdens.

  10. Marshall,

Thank you for cutting short all this blah-blah. I have an other advise for all the Falang here: If you have a proboem and you are decent, just talk it over with your Immigration Officer. O.K. Be decently dressed. That doesn't mean, you need a bussiness suite. Just show up clean and try to explain politely your problem. I think in the most places they just will try to help you. Just my opnion.

  11. I have another nice story about Thai Immigration. Freshly married I went to my homeland, but in a town in Chiang Rain Province they made a mistake in our marriage papers. My embassy and the Thai authorities did everything to correct this mistake as soon as possible(A.S.A.P.). But when I got the corrected papers in my home country, it was just 11 hours before my flight “back home” was due. So, I just arrive again as a tourist in Bangkok, 5 a.m. in the morning. I told the Immigration Officer laughing with tongue in cheek about Murphy’s law and showed her my marriage papers. You know what I got? A tourist visa for one month? No; a tourist visa without an expiring date and an: “Go to Mae Sai and tell them the problem. A big smile and I was dismissed very clearly with the best wishes of a Bangkok Immigration Officer to an unknown Falang. And so are many of my experiences here in Thailand. You understand now I like them?

    :o

  12. Sorry,

I don’t understand a lot of problems here. I’m just talking about myself now. I’m under the jurisdiction of Mae Sai Immigration. I had in the beginning a lot of problems there, not because of the Thai, but because of the black gossip some people of my nationality put in the ear of an Immigration Officer. Then one of the Immigration Officers checked me out, asked Thai people around me, what thy thought about me and said later smiling to my wife;: when the people in the village said, because they don’t know my Falang Name: Oh, you mean Lung ….., he knew enough. Never have problems with this office, they know everything about me, made no problem about me being late for the 90 days, because I was running from doctor to doctor. Their only reaction was they would pray for me that I got rid as soon as possible from this skin problem. And I don’t pay, or ever have paid thee money. Of course my pension is high enough and all that kind of things, but sometimes I have the feeling that a lot of Farangs live in an other Thailand then me.

  13. Well, there is a new arrival card and that's pretty much it. Just a little form, a <deleted>' piece of paper to fill in and surely no reason to get your blood steaming.

Here, how I see the entire subject:

    - For non-Thai resident only

Don't just guess but read the Thai script instead. It translates "exclusively for foreigners". A foreigner is a person that does not hold citizenship of the country he is about to enter and/or resides in. So all of us non-Thais are concerned whether we are going to be on a short term (tourist, business trip) or long term (pensioner, supporter of family etc. - the holders of non-immigrant visas). Under these circumstances the term "non-Thai resident" is not so bad at all. An abbreviation for "staying (= residing) in Thailand as a foreigner (= not holding Thai citizenship = non-Thai) independant from the mission.

    - Income

Income is not necessarily just a salary/wage obtained for work but money someone obtains by all kind of means to make a living (it can be a salary, wage, pension, money from renting out property, interest, dividends etc.)

    - Question about yearly income

Most likely of interest for statistical reasons (for example of some value to TAT)  only and very unlikely for use of putting some stones into a foreigners attempt to enter Thailand or reside here.  The issue may, however, be brought up if a person gets into conflict with the law or features severe misbehaviour while in town. There are rumours that Thailand is not just a magnet to the Vienna Choir Boys but also to a lot of f...-ups of all kinds of nationalities but guess these are just  rumours particularly in a city that bears the name "City of Angels".  :o  Under these circumstances let us just take it for granted that the information about income is for statistical reasons only.  A question, by the way, that is quite often raised may it be when you get surveyed on the street, apply for a credit card, fill in a questionaire by a hotel, a theme park, maybe even a McDonald restaurant when they asked their patrons whether they are satisfied with the service.

The modern world just loves statistics for whatever reasons and pulls out figures on any occasion whether it is approprate or not.

Conclusion: RELAX. Rather have a Singh or a Chang to flush down your paranoia and enjoy your time of residing in Thailand. Adopt an occasional "mai pen rai" or even a little bit of Thai "mag ngai" and the sky appears to get a little more pink colored shine.

Just my two tiny little satang.

    Richard

I completely agree with Richard. Sometimes you get tired of the paranoid and anti-Thai stuff you read here.

  14. Dear All,

Now something else; is the any expat in Thailand who is interested in model railroading in big scale? I only read about visa, pubs, work permits, bad Thais and all that kind of stuff. I a have different problem. I’m living in Chiang Rai and would love to start a scratch build garden railroad in sm32 (scale 1:19), not for live steam but for battery operation. The problem is the raw material. Where to get brass, plastruct, plastic card and all that kind of things. Is there any decent hobby shop in Bangkok? Ordering abroad is possible but rather complicated. Are there other fellows under the expats with the same interest? Glad with any advice.
