  1. Thailand is party to the CRS, they made their first report last year
  2. Maybe he has never seen inside a Thai Jail, thinks it's like a Swiss jail
  3. So simple to deal with the taxi overcharging issue if the will is there. Do as in some other countries. Compulsory notice on the dashboard of taxis saying " NO METER - NO CHARGE" with a phone number to call for assistance.
  4. Would be easy if the authorities actually wanted to tackle the problem. Just do what I've seen in other cities. Notice required on all Taxi dashboards saying. "NO METER - NO CHARGE" With a number to call if any problem.
  5. No mention of a license in the article but for a tourist to drive any vehicle legally in Thailand you need a license from your home country and an international driving permit from that country. I believe most tourists don't have both and bike renters will be unlikely to tell you this legal requirement. Insurers will insist that you must be driving legally otherwise they may not pay out.
  6. Sonthi Kotchawat, an independent expert on the environment, has criticized the bills’ content, saying they mostly repeat existing laws on air pollution. He says the solution lies not in passing new laws but in ensuring proper enforcement of the laws already enacted. At least there's one guy with a functioning brain!
  7. What's a Buffalo Bear? Don't think there's such a species. This is a black bear I think, indigenous to Thailand.
  8. You don't need all this nonsense. Just pass a freedom of information bill and see that it's upheld. But I won't be holding my breath
  9. I've done my 90-day reporting online for over 3 years without problems. I logged in to the site today to check on any changes. There aren't any changes to the site so I don't know what this is all about.
  10. "The implicated company or employers could face further legal actions if found complicit in the illegal employment practices" It seems no employers were arrested for illegally employing them and possibly arranging their entry into Thailand. As usual, just punish the victims and we will never hear any more about the perpetrators.
  11. They wouldn't be mercenaries, they are Israeli citizens with Israeli passports and can be called up for military service.
  12. This is a problem in Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar & Laos. Pollution does not respect borders. I would have thought it would have been a good idea to bring up the problem in the past with ASEAN when they meet and party every year in alternate countries. Thailand will never solve the problem alone.
  13. Thailand has joined the CRS (Common Reporting Standard) https://www.mazars.co.th/Home/Insights/Doing-Business-in-Thailand/Tax/Automatic-Exchange-of-Information
  14. I agree. The tax authorities don't possess the necessary expertise to efficiently handle tax matters for foreigners from many countries who bring money into Thailand from various sources, some with dual taxation agreements and some without. I had an experience when I visited the tax office four years ago to register for taxes as I was renting out a property in Thailand. When I inquired about the necessity of registering for tax as a foreigner, their response was, "It's up to you."
  15. Probably right, but as usual not much information. Better to find out before you get caught on the hop
  16. Absolutely nothing in that statement to say that there anything wrong with him
  17. You don't know that, she's 58, he could outlast her. He has all the rights to use the house and she's given away her rights in the Usufruct. We don't know her circumstances, If she needs money then she might well go for some split of the proceeds, I didn't mention half. At 58 she won't be getting many hits on Thai Friendly over the next few years. He doesn't have many options, if he can negotiate and come away with something, that's better than spending his last years miserably, fighting what's probably going to be a losing battle.
  18. I understand what goes on and agree that it could take years waiting for lawyers if there's a dispute. That's why I suggested he come to an agreement with her to sell and split the proceeds. If a buyer was found and they agreed to share the proceeds it could go through in weeks. That depends on how much she needs money. She's 58 and he's 75, he could conceivably live for another 10-15 years.
