Thank you to everyone who answered my query.
My flight will be direct BKK-LHR and it is a relief to know I will not face any check-in problem.

I have a UK passport and will be returning to the UK on March 3rd.
However, my passport expires on 28th August 2024 leaving it just 3 days short of 6 months validity.
Am I likely to be refused a boarding pass at the airline check-in ?

Within 60 days
So supposing I buy a throwaway ticket in order to show on the evisa application form that I am exiting Thailand before my 60th day, will I still be able to obtain a 30-day extension later on ?

Thanks for your response. So if I obtain a throwaway ticket to show my departure before my 60th day - one of the requirements of the evisa online app form - will I later be able to get a 30-day extension at immigration ?

I am in the UK and preparing to apply online for a 60-day tourist visa although my intention is to stay for 90 days by obtaining a 30-day extension at immigration. The evisa travel section requires a date of departure from Thailand. Must this be within the initial 60 days ? Or will my departure home within 90 days be accepted ?

Thanks. Where exactly did you have the proceedure, here in Thailand or someplace else.
The procedure was done at Guy's Hospital in London. I'm told that the prostate Aquablation process was first developed is about 5 years ago and has since had a rapid take up in many other countries because of its precision and because it's far less intrusive and, for larger prostates, much safer than TURP. I understand that Bumrungrad Hospital in Bkk now offers the procedure.

This time last year I was listed at Guy's hospital for the Holep procedure and I was given a bed in the Urology ward. When my Consultant came round he asked me if I would be interested in having a new robotic procedure called Aquablation as someone else had cancelled. He explained that the outcome would be the same as a Holep but much less intrusive. After our discussion, I agreed, and thus became the first person to have this new procedure where the prostate is, in effect, hollowed out a bit to allow the urethra an unrestricted passage through. I have had no side effects, no discomfort and no change to the enjoyment of my sex life and I'm not far short of eighty. Hope that helps.

For those who like doing the BP crossword, it is one that is syndicated so exactly the same crossword appears in other papers including London's Evening Standard. So if the BP is sold out, you can always enjoy doing the xword here... https://puzzles.standard.co.uk/games/cryptic-crossword-eveningstandard

There was a very similar case just the other day where a Bentley Mulsanne was stolen in the UK and found in Pakistan...

My colleague arrived at Heathrow from Malaysia via Abu Dhabi two days ago. He was through immigration in about 5 minutes. Concerned that he had not been asked for any documents or forms or evidence of the vaccinations he'd had in Malaysia, he asked an official where he should present them. He was waved through without showing anything other than his passport at the egate.

Many thanks for the info and link. It was just that my friend thought that vaccines taken outside of the UK might not be recognised on re-entry.

A friend, a UK citizen, is in KL and has the option of getting his 2 x Pfizer jabs in KL. Does anyone know if his Covid jabs will be recognised on entry to UK ? Or, would it be wiser for him to wait and get his jabs in the UK ?

A number of my former students from when I was teaching in the north east are currently in the Thai army, about fifteen that I know of. Most of them keep in touch when they can and I often get sent videos of training exercises, artillery live firing and photos of the weaponry they work with etc as well as capers they get up to for a laugh. While they know bad things have happened, and sometimes do happen, in the army they have not experienced anything untoward themselves and most have made some very good friends there.

Why limit oneself to China ? Online teaching is widespread even before Covid and there are many opportunities. One such specialist platform is https://1on1.today which is very international.

I actually have a small 50g carton of Arrowroot, aka Cassava, which I bought at Tesco in London but according to the label was imported from Thailand. It is a very useful thickening agent when making stews etc and can be used to create a nice glaze on cakes and other things.

Conversely, I know of Thai students who, despite actively wanting to join the army, failed the English test and were rejected so I imagine that if your Thai is poor to non-existent then you are likely to be rejected too. After all, a soldier unable to respond instantly to orders is not much use.
A bit off topic but I have just seen an unofficial video of some artillery and helicopter deployment sequences including live firing during a major Thai army exercise that is currently taking place and the soldiers shown look highly trained and competent which is a description not normally associated on this forum with Thais.

A remedy that I was advised to use by a Thai friend which worked was to place the mattress outside in the full glare of the sun for a whole day turning it over around midday.

I too can commend the Chateau de Loei wines which have been produced since 1995 at Phu Ruea which is also a lovely National Park and well worth seeing too.

According to BBC news today Nepal has yet to receive any of the funds pledged by the various governments. Their Finance Minister said that "Not a single dollar has been deposited into government accounts."

For similar reasons I went to Malacca for a few days. Very interesting place, plenty of history, lots to see and abundant food choices as well as decent places to stay.
