  1. I leave the UK on 15/12 and my return flight leaves Bangkok on 13/01. That's 30 days from the UK departure date and 29 days from entry to Thailand. I spoke to someone from the Thai embassy in London and she advised not to rely on the 30 day Tourist Visa excemption permit as if my flight was delayed I would be overstaying.

So I looked at the requirments for a 60 day tourist visa application and have a few questions.

Does the 3rd point below apply to me if I am only going for holiday purposes? On the website under tourist visa it says: 'This type of visa is issued to applicants who wish to enter the Kingdom for Tourism and Medical Treatment purposes." So if I am not going for medical treatment purposes can I ignore point 3 below? It's not clear on the website.

Also I am not going to be staying in 1 place in Thailand, but there is only space for 1 proposed address in the 'Visiting Details' section.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS - Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months - check

    - Visa application form completely filled out - check

    - Two (2) recent (2 x 2 inches.) photographs of the applicant - check

    - A letter from a doctor/hospital in Thailand (for purposes of Medical Treatment in Thailand) - ??

    Thanks

  2. ...

I'm from the UK so I believe I automatically get a 30 day on initial entry?

Yes, if you arrive in Thailand by air. If you have no flight out of Thailand within 30 days from arrival, your airline may not let you board at the UK departure airport.

I will be flying to various places within Thailand but will also spend 2 nights in Cambodia. Will be flying there and back via Air Asia from BKK.

If you return from Cambodia by air you will be given permission to stay for 30 days, if on land, 15 days only.

Thanks. The thailand flight is a return and is already booked both ways, I have most of the hotels pre booked too so can show that on entry if they need to see it. Just looking now it's on the 30th day that I actually fly back to London. Although if the 30 day permit is issued on entry to Thaland then that will be on the 2nd day so I will fly back the on the 29th day.

  3. I got a travelex cash passport Globe card and they charge 1.4% per transaction, no additional fee. I gather ATM's in Thailand and Cambodia may charge (except some AEON ones?) but in terms of the exchange rate how is that determined?

I tried to press Travelex for this when I got the card and they said the rate was set by Mastercard. So at the point at which I withdraw from an ATM in LOS does that mean the rate is whatever Mastercard are showing at that time? I haven't loaded the card up yet but thought id check before I do.

Compared to other pre paid cards this looked to be the best of the bunch.

    Thanks

  4. What's spooky is I was not 5 minutes ago listening to Iron Maiden - The Clairvoyant.

Personally I think it's all a crock of shit, but each to their own. Plus if it was meant to happen, you would have found her by now, or she you ect..

  5. How will you return and are you from a visa exempt country? If you land you would be 15 days but if by air 30 days if visa exempt so no reason for re-entry permit unless you have an extension of stay you want to protect. Re-entry in normally only of real use for those on one year extensions of stay (living in Thailand). It only keeps alive your current permitted to stay date.

    Hi,

  6. I'm going to be going to Pnomh Pneh for 2 nights and then back into Bangkok so will I need one of these? My total stay in Thailand will be under 30 days. I'm from the UK btw. Will I be given a 30 day pass on each time I enter Thailand or will the 1st one be valid for when I re enter after Cambodia?

Is there anything I need to do before hand?

    Thanks

  7. Ok looks like teerak could be telling the truth. Fair dos.

Alrhough not directly related to this I find it strange how much parents rely on kids to support them. It almost seems like the kids are essentially pensions for parents. Seems her father fecked off when she was a kid so the mum supports her and her sister. Not sure if her mum even works tbh.

    Anyway thanks.

  8. Not meaning to bump an old thread but was trying to find out what the average salary in Thailand would be for someone in their early 20's working at some pharmaceutical company. She works in product quality, whatever that entails.

Anyway the reason for this was that she reckons she gets 22k a month and of that sends 15k bhat a month back home to her mother. From reading around here and other Thailand forums that seems more than even the average annual salary. Is she trying to pull a fast one here?

It's a western based company too.

  9. Pattaya is the place that has given Thailand the bad reputation as the sex capital of the world. Why don't they start by bulldozing and cleaning that place up. Start arresting and charging the bargirls working in prostitution and thier clients send out a very clear and positive message to the sex tourists that this illegal act will no longer be tolerated. The sex tourists will stop comming after they starting spending time in the BKK Hilton. (Prostitution is after all illegal)

Are you crazy? They need to ramp up with more bars if anything.

  10. Hi all,

I tried searching for more info on this but seemed there wasn't anything available about RCA other than some condos for sale. So i've changed things up on my trip and as it happens I will be spending around a week in Bangkok, not all in 1 go though.

Sure I can spend my evenings in Nana and Soi Cowboy but to be honest I like what i've read about RCA. Seems to be a more local crowd and still plenty of clubs and bars. My question is are these establishments farang friendly or will I get trouble there?

    Thanks

  11. I've got no tattoos, but I'd recommend Jay at the tattoo shop next to 7-11 in the middle of Haad Rin. Looks like a nice clean shop, lots of beautiful artwork, and as a bonus the guy has saved the lives of eight local dogs, so he's bound to be a decent human being.

Professional and the only maori-style devoted tattoo parlour (and NZ-Dutch guy too) B)

Great so they do bamboo too! Cheers

  12. Ok so I have extended my trip by a few days so could well get it in Bangkok before I leave. Or I have also considered getting a bamboo one done and getting it at the start of my trip in Chiang Mai., I will be there and in Chiang Rai for about 7 days and then Bangkok for 3 days before I head to Krabi so if I do get it there then it should be all healed up before I hit the beaches. (a bamboo one that is)

  13. i would suggest that if you want cliche, low-quality ink that your plan is a good one. if not, why not cover up and get it done somewhere in bangkok or at least from an artist with a reputation for quality work?

cant say that i have been impressed by the work or lifestyles of many of the koh phangan tattoo crowd. but hey, its not like a tattoo is forever.

the only consistent koh phangan tattooist i have heard of is the exhaust on a honda wave

Fair comment, and I am spending 4 days in Bangkok prior to that. But after im headed to Krabi and will be doing some snorkeling, not to mention exposing my leg to the sun. Is that not a no no?

Thank you. Do you know the name of his business? Does he have a website?

  15. Only a tip from me ....

My friend had a leg tattoo the day before flying out to Germany. It got infected and the flight - swollen legs/sitting down etc - was a nightmare for him. Maybe forgo a little of the suntan and have it done earlier?

This is what I am worried about. But are you saying the reason for the infection was exposure to sun? i thought that if I am flying out the next day then up until that point just make sure that I am covered up and indoors till then.

  16. So as the title suggests I'm looking for a good tattooist in koh Phangan. It has to be KPN as the rest of my trip I'll be in shorts a lot of the time so exposed to sun not to mention I'll be swimming ect. KPN is the last leg of my trip so I'm thinking to get that on the last day before I head back to blighty.

I'd like to get a tiger, but not a normal looking one. Ideally a design that is thai influenced. The ones I have heard of so far are koh Phangan Body Art, Tatoo Lotus and tattoo club koh Phangan.

Does anyone here have any experiences or info they could share?

Also I'm certain I will get a normal one and not a bamboo one but in the event I decide to go with a bamboo one are there any risks I need to be aware compared to getting a traditional one?

    Thanks
