  1. If you're stepping up from instant coffee, I can recommend the Aeropress.

Available on Lazada but better details here:

    https://www.amazon.com/AeroPress-Coffee-Espresso-Maker-Tote/dp/B0018RY8H0/ref=sr_1_2?crid=KR63KQ91PI0B&dchild=1&keywords=aeropress+coffee+maker&qid=1624258622&sprefix=aer%2Caps%2C416&sr=8-2

The aforementioned James Hoffman made some videos about it recently. I tried both a drip filter coffee maker and a french press for travel . I gave them away after getting this a few years back.

These beans are my current favourites:

  2. I opened an account with AJBell two years ago.  I have lived in Thailand for 10 years and they were made aware of this from the start. Some additional documents had to be scanned and verified, but they were happy to accept me as an overseas customer.

I was transferring a SIPP, but I did ask if I could also open an investment account and was told that I could. I know that they have a range of in-house funds with various degrees of risk from cautious to adventurous.

I ended up opening an investment account with Internaxx (now Swissquote) to avoid an eggs-in-one-basket scenario, but I am happy with AJBell's  service and the low cost to operate the account - to the extent that I have had JSIPPS for my grandsons opened with them as well.

  3. Returning from a movie last week, I called in at the 7-11 for a carton of milk.

The young lady with a basket full in front of me waved me through to the till (and got a sincere smile and "Thank you" in return).

    Politeness does exist here.

That's it yes , if you have problem I not care .

am I give anyone advice no I am not I am saying what I do that is not advice is it .

why should I give all Those things to make a thai woman happy let her work and do it for her self I will give her a start she can never get in thailand.

read what I said ok yes she takes care of me yes but I can take care of my self ok

I said in my post I take good care of her as well ok .

I am not going to put my hard money in to a country like thailand,  I am not that stupid.

when I die she can do with  what she wants with her money, like I will not no will I , I will be dead.

You wrote "I have lost friends over trying to tell them and help them when it comes telling them about thai woman ". I think almost everyone would construe that as advising people. If you can't grasp that, it's your problem. Not mine.

Telling a partner that one is worth more dead than alive has been a fatal error in the past. If you're too obtuse to understand that "I will not no will I , I will be dead" isn't much consolation if that day comes years earlier than expected,  it's your problem. Not mine.

On this and other threads your pugnacious eagerness to have the last word is causing you to flatly contradict yourself. You're strutting around the forum like some Bogan Bantam Cock ready to take on all comers. Your superiority complex is showing, but it's your problem. Not mine.

You have to seat back and see your work mate lose the lot then tell him I told you so that's it .

Like all the first timers they get burnt and then complaining about it to there friends .

You see GEORGE I have lost friends over trying to tell them and help them when it comes telling them about thai woman I am sick of it so now , I just say up to you .

It has something to do with the the  colour of the thai pussy I think haha .

You see you have to tell your thai girl friend from day one how it is if she not like it then tell her we're the door is .

I have a new one now the last one was a C??? , But I have told the new one before I meet her this is how it is ok NO , CAR , HOME , GOLD , RICE LAND , NO MONTHLY IN COME , SIN SOR and she understands how it is she did try and move the gold post after 2 months but told her you no were the door is and she is great now .

You see what happens here not all , but for most of the  foreign men they get suck in to the thai pussy and can't say NO to there thai partners and it is up to them but not complain when it turns to shit .

Thailand is not for everyone, tell your work friend and tell him to read some books about the place.

Yes I will make a will and I have told my new thai lady this is what you will get at the end when I die she will be very , very well off after my death .

But I take good care of her and help here mum out not a lot but I do help out when I can .

I say it as I see it in thailand and lots on this web sit TV not like me but that is ok because lots of people not like the truth and I have never said anything that is not true here , but you see man who make  excuses for coming to thailand get on here and complain about it all the time , if you come here good I say I am happy for you but didn't try and run your own country down to use this as a  excuse to come to thailand , because you own country give you the chance to come to thailand and live very well off .

So, you've told your new girlfriend that there is "NO , CAR , HOME , GOLD , RICE LAND , NO MONTHLY IN COME , SIN SOR" whilst she is taking care of you but that "She will be very, very well off" after your death.

Just the sort of motivational encouragement a girl needs....and you're offering advise to others?

"She did try and move the gold post" was pretty funny, though.

  6. I initially went the disposable/cartridge and can of foam route many years ago when saving time was important to a single parent in full time employment.

A couple of months ago, annoyed with the variable quality and increasing cost of cartridges, I had the basics for safety razor wet shaving delivered to me from Bangkok.

Good quality German made safety razor:    1,500 baht

    Boar bristle brush:                                             500

Italian shaving soap (>6 months worth):       350

    20 razor blades:                                                 100

It will end up being cheaper than disposables in a few months, but more importantly I had forgotten just how satisfying a ritual it is to shave this way. I end up feeling pampered, even though I'm doing it to myself.

Plenty of instructional videos on youtube for those who've never tried it.

    I used this company:

  7. I can't agree with the posters suggesting you stay out of this because "This is Thailand". That just allows the unacceptable behaviour of a sexual predator to continue.

Your wife has told you about this situation because it's upsetting her and she doesn't have a solution.

    She is your wife.

    Help her.

  8. I buy ground decaf at Boncafe, it's only 260 baht for 250grams. I'm not a coffee connoisseur so I can't really tell the difference between pre-ground the freshly ground. I mean, I sometimes buy decafe at Boncafe where they grind it fresh and the pre-ground coffee tastes exactly the same when I make it at home.

Only 260 baht for 250 grams? That makes it 3 times as expensive as the Duangdee coffee I have delivered to my door. I doubt that the decaf tastes half as good.

The chemical leaching makes the decaf more costly to produce, but it still seems like a rip-off.

20 years ago I was told by my Doctor to either cut down on my daily 8 cups of regular coffee or switch to decaf.

I bought a packet of decaf to try. Once.

I limit my coffee to 2 cups a day. My body got used to it easier than I thought it would.

  9. I went to the local Amphur Office in Udon Thani this afternoon to try and get this card. The pleasant and helpful staff provided one in about 40 minutes at a cost of 60 baht.

The only minor hiccup was getting them to accept "None" in the section for Religion.

There were two other foreigners in the queue ahead of me waiting for the same thing.

Yellow book, passport and Thai D.L. (+ copies) were the only documents needed. P.R. wasn't even mentioned.

  10. It has been posted on a local forum in Udon this week that an American gentleman went for a retirement extension and asked for it to be done on the same day (without the 30 day wait).

When he was told it was 1500 baht for "Express Service", he went to the local N.A.C.C. office and complained.

He reports that after some phone calls between Udon and Bangkok he was asked to return to the Immigration office where he was given the extension without charge.

Wow. If true that might open a big can of worms for somebody. Congrats to that American fellow for having the cojones to do that. Pretty sure I don't.

Good story. It would also be a good story whether the guy receives a service-with-a-smile treatment the next time he shows up.

Given the choice between probity with a scowl or scamming with a smile, I suspect he'd prefer the former.

    I would.

Bad or slow service may be just that and not within the mandate of the N.A.C.C.

Yes, true, but bad or slow service that disappears when a bribe is paid surely is within their mandate.

If you're suggesting they may just make things awkward on his next visit, that may well happen.

I think it's more likely that they'll deal with him promptly, knowing that he's capable of kicking up a fuss. Why draw attention to yourself when there are so many pliable victims to hit on?

    Vindictiveness requires effort.

  12. Well, have all of the supreme idiots written their clueless responses? Gosh I hope so and it always amazes me that so many who do not know squat about astrology are willing to offer their useless judgements and comments. I wonder if this is a reflection of how some of you asses assess everything in our world that you do not know anything about.

Instead of offering deaf and dumb over-generalized remarks... just do something very simple. Discover for yourself! Go to www.astro.com and enter all of the required information (if you know things like where you were born and what time) and see what comes up and see if it resonates with you. Wow! So simple! You don't have to guess anymore...won't that be fun? Do you have the intestinal fortitude to do this or are you in fear that the information you read will scare you with the truth you may discover about yourself. Most likely that is why you so easily dismiss things for which you have no information. Ever here of Seek Your Truth and Your Truth Shall Make You Free (that is my version)?

I have been studying my own astrology for 50 years...yes 50... and find it to be very accurate...ooooh...scary huh? I have been also studying the charts of over 100 others who have their minds open enough to take a look and guess what...they are all quite amazed at the accuracy.

Has anyone ever heard of Carl Gustav Jung, the great psychiatrist of the time of Sigmund Freud who accurately saw so much evidence of astrology and its accuracy when he did charts for couples, that he integrated it into his practice and was successful in assisting couples in their challenges for years?

So, will you do that? Will you check it out for yourself? It may take an entire minute or two! OMG! This may be the biggest thing that you ever did but for many of you, you will prefer to not do that and prefer to stay firmly in your ignorance, or you may see if I made a spelling or grammar mistake and then you can feel really powerful...yes?

Insulting, condescending and credulous - must be a Capricorn. facepalm.gif

  13. The OP is certainly someone who loves quality coffee. I don't imagine they have any need for opinions from those of us with our 1000 baht coffeemakers.

IMHO.... They all suck...I have used a French press for 30 years...wonder coffee,

And I drink 6 cups a day....oh, Bon Cafe All Day roast is great....grind your own

    Beans for fresh taste.

Bon Cafe is the by far the nastiest coffee I have ever had. I thought that maybe I just got a bad batch the first time I bought a bag. A second try several months later let me know that it's just the way the coffee tastes. I ordered a coffee in Ko Samet, and knew right away that the sludge they gave me was Bon Cafe. It's nastier than cheap instant.
A French Press really makes coffee taste so much better, it's almost magical. But I'm afraid making Bon Cafe even tolerable is like trying to turn poop into candy.

Have to agree with Timmyp on this - if I see a Boncafe sign outside a shop I will emulate Dionne Warwick and "Walk on by".Also, after their "repair" on my Simonelli Oscar they'll never get to work on any machine of mine again.

http://www.aromathailand.com/2015/product.php?catid=1&typeid=1&ch_lang=En have a good variety - My wife likes their medium roast executive blend.

http://www.northernthailand.com/duangdeecoffee/ Classic blend is still the best value (taste v price) for me. Around 350 baht a kilo, delivered.

  14. Have you ever noticed that confrontational people seem to have more confrontations in their lives?

    I have.

Have you ever noticed that those feckless and pusillanimous types who roll over at the first sign of conflict with some numpty in a uniform seem to also be the same types who end up getting fleeced in business by con-men, rooked in relationships by con-women and generally losing out in life to anyone with a semblance of a backbone?

    I have.

  15. It may well be that the official some of you are tipping is getting more money each month than some of his victims.

On my last visit to the Immigration Office I saw the officer demand 2000 baht for a 1900 baht fee from 3 customers in the 20 minute period I was waiting. Out of ignorance, apathy or fear of confrontation, they all paid without a murmur. It's only 100 baht, not worth worrying about, right?

    But:

I have seen both fewer and more customers on other visits; if he can do this 3 times in 20 minutes, he only has to manage it 3 times an hour to be raking in over 40,000 baht a month.

Add to that the steady drip of 500 baht charges for stamp transfer or provision of a residence letter and the heavier flow of 1,000 – 3,000 baht bribes now being paid to do a task which is standard practice for free in every other Immigration Office in the Kingdom (i.e, give a visa extension on the day it is applied for).

I suggest a figure of at least 50,000 baht a month is quite plausible.

This is more than 3 times the average wage in Thailand.

To try and put this in perspective , it is the local equivalent of a similarly corrupt U.S. Official getting more than 18,000 dollars extra every month in unauthorised fees.

It should be clear that these aren't some dirt-poor Thais trying to eke out a living. Even without the graft money, they're Government employees with a salary, benefits, pension and job security that the majority of Thai workers would envy.

Over the years, like many of us, I have bought and sold property, obtained driving licences, yellow books ,blue books and gone through marriage and will registration in various Government Offices. It hasn't always been straightforward, but the State employees have mostly just done the job they're being paid for.

Udon Thani Immigration should not be any different.

I'm not parading high morals, just a practical concern that this new con could spread like cancer once it's realised how many sapheads are actually willing to pay it.

If by 2020 it turns out that everyone in the country has to pay a fee for "express service", a significant cause will have been the connivance of some feckless farangs in Udon who made the larceny so easy and lucrative.
