  1. Problem is even with some nice old grandpa or granny expats who has been here in Thailand for over 25 years and still can't pronounce things right or say the right things. There must be problem with these Thai language schools particularly the pronunciation department. There are also some other cultural things that should be learn as well because sometimes they are more important to learn than learning the Thai alphabets. E.g. It's considered pretty rude to put your feet on the table yet many farangs still do it! Not ending a Thai sentence with the word "krub or ka" is also rude but still, hardly any farang say it! Why? My parents would punish me hard for not saying "krub or ka" at the end of the sentence. Many misunderstandings and problem could be avoid. I wish I could have my own class.

  2. I also add mince cilantro with the minced onion or shallot. wai2.gif

Isn't rice pilaf just white rice/wild rice with pieces of vermicelli (the coils that you cut up with a pair of scissors)?

The way I make it is..
Saute about 2 tablespoons minced onion or shallot until translucent in olive oil or other oil or butter.
Add 1 cup rice, saute at low heat until rice turns opaque (5 minutes?) , sprinkle some salt in..
Add 2 cups broth (normally I use chicken), bring to a boil. Add dash of thyme or a few sprigs of fresh thyme, a bay leaf and a spring of parsley. Put heat on lowest setting, cover and let cook for about 20 minutes.

    So for me, no vermicelli.

Also, i checked the rice section at Tops KSK and did not see any pilaf. They did have a couple of risottos though.
  3. Many disrespectful/ couldn't careless attitude when you asked the staff about the pasta could be from several reasons, 1) they didn't understand what you want them to do because they are not Thai and may be they didn't see the bugs in pasta as a problem. Or they were too nervous to talk to you as a different people from different cultural background. I'm sure if you talked to a normal Thai staff they will remove the products from the shelf.

  4. Not sure check Dragon air, but there is one I'm sure

That would be the direct flight to Beijing I think

We are already getting flights in the middle of the night. Several landed around 3-4AM the past couple nights.

Yes, and lately some takeoffs after 1am as well.

Most China-bound flights takeoff heading north, and then veer East/NE over Sansai.

Which airline flies direct from CM to Beijing?

  5. Yes you are here for cheap holidays in an uncivilized country. Australia has been known as an Asian haters for a long time, what about that ugly Pauline Hanson of yours. You are not all that nice people so don't come over here to Thailand live here and spit on us and expect to be respected.

Let me make it very simple for you. If you are black or even brown skin colour they don't like you and yes they are racist to the bone. People from the NE are looked down upon based on nothing but their skin colour. I am Australian born of mixed breed and went to a bar in Patts a few years ago. When I entered they bouncer said "Where you from?" I said Australia. Had a good think about it and on the way out asked him why and he said "You look same same India".

Thais also don't like how Indians like to travel around in huge groups, however having said that, Thais like doing the same thing!!!

Dont take it personally, put it down to you are in an uncivilized country where the people have been brainwashed from day one to worship their elite and treat all foreigners with disdain. I hate the word farang but I keep going because its a good cheap holiday most of time. I have found the poorer people in the provinces much nicer than some of the a***holes you meet in the cities.

  6. I few sorry for the OP and yes you were poorly treated. You should talked to the manager in those hotels. However, in a hotel in BKK I've seen Indian tourists eating baked beans with their hands standing in the middle of the buffet room. One waiter told me many Indian tourist do that. Some of them whip their hands on the table. Almost all of them are looking for ways to cheats and shortcuts. I've seen farangs yell at Thai nurses at my hospital very often. It's easy for them to misunderstand you if you look Indian or Arab.

  7. Aristide with all due respect what does your post mean? ("Generally Thai people don't eat turtle soup of any kind and it is offensive to see someone kill the poor creature or eat them. I will personally report this to the Pantip website if I see any one do such thing.") Who or what is Pantip? (I know the Thai website, similar to Thaivisa as far as I understand, and there is an electronic appliance mall named that) And why would they care unless you just want to make trouble that someone is doing something you don't approve of (unless of course they are killing a protected species). I'm not tying to make trouble just might be misunderstanding your post and this is why I'm asking.

No problem junglechef, there is an animal lover forum on pantip website that many Thai will announce anything unusual in the country. I'm sure many Thai will not approve buying or eating turtle soup.

  8. Yes I know but I was unable to locate the place off the Canal Rd you mention so I might as well buy from Baan Bakery Thanks

Aristide, your map and photo are incorrect for the bakery of this topic. Maybe it's the location of brother's Baan Bakery? Other bakery, the subject of this thread, is located off Canal Rd.

  10. It's still a public holiday on monday but the OP can still post mail via the private mail agents in all major shopping malls

No. It's the Her Majesty The Queen's Birthday.

It's one of the most important public holidays in Thailand.

    http://www.timeanddate.com/holidays/thailand/queen-birthday

It's the Queen's Birthday next month!

Boy am I stupid. Yes it's next month. Now I don't really know if the post office is open on Monday or not.

Thanks for pointing out my mistake.
