  1. I can't believe how gullible you numb nuts are. If you could actually understand what the cops said they said you can't have a knife in the car they were specific about the knife. It wasn't a Swiss army knife as you know it with all the tools it was a switch blade. And that's it. What the hell you need a knife in the car for anyway. I've never heard of a car jacking in Thailand! Glad to see the cops doing thier job. Noone should be driving around with a weapon in the car and thats what it was a weapon not a swiss toolset with a blade in it. Damn talk about tabloid news.

it's only a weapon when the person carrying it is using as such. A car can be used as a weapon too, let's not forget. Also, there is no need for childish name calling here.

What other reason is there to carry a knife in ur car? It was only a knife there were no tweezers or nothin else as the policeman explained. Childish name calling lol...im sorry were u offended?

  2. jj market has everything. What you want is the imported stuff from germany. Theres only one shop there that has all this. Bat guano peat moss etC but the german mix is the best 600 baht for 20kg. First shop on your right just after the fish place. dont buy no soils from big c and if you mix ur own youll have to wait weeks for it to cool down before u can use it. Buy the grrman mix trust me!

  4. Ah, the marketeer of local marketeers is back with a new branch store !! The PT Barnum of Chiang Mai is back !!! TV sponsors are quite legitimately given an opportunity to market in forum topics and posts. You have to love this guy! Pure entertainment, if anything! Just remember PT Barnum's famous motto! (Google it!) Below, I eventually recommend some alternatives and the suggestion to shop around.

Anyway, the effectiveness of McW's method of instruction is at the very least arguable. McW makes claims but has never really posted anything other than repeatedly mentioning "customer satisfaction," as I recall.

I enjoy the photos posted. McW does hire very lovely young women. Why does he picture them? Especially in Korea! Don't see any other sorts in his ads, but, of course, they are reflective of typical effective language "instructors" in Chiang Mai. Wonder why are they always central in his advertising? In addition, If you read past posts, it is apparent that there might be other incentives for clients (having absolutely nothing to do with women or the instructors ) that are not mentioned by him.

Ask him about his method of instruction and the teachers' qualifications to teach, if you are interested. He will probably say, basically, as he has said many, many, many times that you should come by, sit in, get to know us, et cetera.

About marketing, I took another look at his photos. I have some questions about them, and McW has always been willing to ask people to stop by, try the school out, et cetera. With such attractive instructors, who wouldn't !!

One recurrent claim that has always interested me is " *UNLIMITED* [his emphasis, not mine] STAY IN THAILAND FREE ED VISA. " Now, who might that appeal to and what are the specifics of this promise? How is it repotted, confirmed and regulated? And with whom at the Department of Immigration? If you advertise here, McW, wouldn't it be appropriate to detail this benefit?

Looking at his promotional photos, one other thing caught my eye. The top photo. At the resolution normally available, it looks a bit like a Thai health instructor showing young adolescent students how to use a condom. The banana demonstration is commonly known. He might want to consider using another photo.

All that said, I am still hopeful that he succeeds in starting up his dance school, the most recent enterprise he has advertised in Chiang Mai. Check out the video he provided on TV !!! Awesomely talented dancer!! And maybe some of his instructors could use some overtime!

Oh yes! Alternatives! There are many in Chiang Mai, and it is true that one size does not fit all. Try a range of them. Try the AUA or the YMCA. Yes, and there are a plethora of private schools, some offering the tantalizing prospect of an "easy" Ed visa. Other posters will have recommendations. For newcomers who are legitimately interested in learning Thai, you should have lots of questions to ask !!

So much for the so called alternatives, AUA is so crap their coursework is 40 years old! YMCA is not at all better and you'll find that classes never start or stop on time and repeat things you've learned already further wasting your time. So you waste your time writing all this nonsense and finally you have nothing valid to add. Chances are you don't even speak Thai to have a review of his school. I do and I can tell you their coursework is better than any other language school in CM and that includes the universities CM and Payap who's courses are also crap.

  5. Hi I went this morning ,horendas trafic jam throu a minor bumper bender lost about an hour got there at 845 ticket machien not working found another que to join got a ticket about 930 got a seat this time ticket came up at 1.20 Transation tool les than 30 sec .why is it taking so long, last time i didnt get a seat and had to stand for 3 hours, bean doing this for 10 years 75 now and standing for three hours is tiring to say the least. two new officers behind the counter and and so much slower than the guy who has served me for the past 9 years, I am sure they need to double the staff increase the number of windows and qudruple the number of parking places. or how about cutting it down to two times a year one included with your yearly visa and one at 6months.just thinking about when I am 90+. sorry about the rant ive still got a pain in my but for sitting so long

Do yourself a favour Derek and cut your trips down to once a year for your visa. The services that you can employ to do the subsequent 3 x 90 day reports only charge 1500 baht (500 baht a trip I think, somebody will correct me if I'm wrong)...

It's not like doing it yourself is "free". Even ignoring the wasted several hours of my time, it would actually cost me almost as much in fuel to get there and back, as to pay these guys.

70% of expats live on less than 50,000 baht a month. 500 baht is a lot of money for some people they'd rather not waste.

500 baht for gas what are you driving?

  6. Cool I never new about this place. Do they update Sat Nav's?

I have a Garmin nuvi but only European maps I would like to have it updated with Thai map

you can download the thai maps to your garmin.
  7. The real joke here is you went to do your 90 day reporting at 6:30 am..........

The real joke is doing 90 day reporting by yourself. It's one of the very few immigration items where you can legally skip a personal appearance.

Why anyone would voluntarily subject themselves to going there is beyond me.

That's true however If I could get someone to do it for me for free yeah sure, but who would do that for free? i'll go to central for lunch then head to immigration for 10-15min and i'm out of there.

  8. The real joke here is you went to do your 90 day reporting at 6:30 am..........

Honestly with all the people using this forum no one gives any good information.

So here you go this should save your aggravation for next time:

It's the first 15 people to arrive that get a seat, you'll need to arrive before 6:30 to get one of those seats if your lucky.

90 day reporting takes 10 minutes to do if you arrive at 1:30pm and later in the afternoon.

You do not need a number to get a certificate of residence, again go in the afternoon.

Go to the chiang mai immigration site and download the forms and fill them in before you get there.

  9. You will need photos for the Certificate...I think black and white are ok

You do not need photos for the licence as they take their own now with the computer that prints the licences.

my mate tried yesterday with black and white photos....sorry no go

  10. I speak Thai fluently I've seen all the courses from all the schools in Chiang Mai. Walen has the best coursework out of all of them.

Where did you learn to speak Thai?

I learned to speak read and write Thai at Satit Kaset school of Kasetsart university. THE most well known high schools in Thailand.

  11. There

    IT WASN'T A RUMOR.

Perhaps you haven't read the several threads that have circulated for the last several months about Immigration no longer issueing CRs.

Now you are one more confirmation that Immigration has just started issuing CRs once again.

    That's good news.

What are you talking about I got one two months ago I got another one yesterday. About the doctors certificate, yes you need one if you are applying for a drivers license, you probably don't need one if you are applying for vehicle registration.
