  1. Thanks for the replies guys. It seems I've been flagged for some reason. I haven't been hassled every time, but twice entering Chiang Mai and one in Phuket. Several times entering Bangkok and I've not had a problem. The officer in Chiang Mai said, "maybe you work in Chiang Mai" and told me I need to have a visa to come again. Anyway, I'm not armed with all the documents and will protest next time.

I've been entering Thailand at least 10 times a year for the past 10 years and never had a problem until recently.

  2. Sorry if this has been covered before, I've tried to RTFF and couldn't find anything on this topic.

I am currently living and working in Singapore and making frequent visits to Thailand for 3-7 days. Recently, I'm being hassled by immigration officers and they are saying there is a new law that requires a visa for people who enter more than six times in six months. I've explained that I live in Singapore and shown my Singapore employment pass. They say I need a visa. If this is the case, I'm happy to get one here in Singapore.

Can someone tell me if (1) they are correct about the six entries in six months is a valid law, and (2) what kind of visa I need for frequent visiting?

  3. I use the postal service all the time getting things from the US . Only got hit once with a tax many boxes have go thorugh and never an issue ... Postal service is best value it at less that $25.00 and your pretty safe

Similar eperience to mine. I have had around 30 packages sent to me via USPS and I was charged duty on only three. It seems to be that items that are heavy or large get checked. If the items isn't valuable, it's best if you can get the merchant to send it without an invoice or with a substantially reduced price on the invoice. Items that don't get held for duty were delivered to my house by the Thai post.

BTW, I have never had a package lost using USPS.

  4. I like to make mashed and baked potatoes and I find that the varieties you find here are not well suited for either. When you try to make the potatoes, they are very dense and pasty. Back in the US I used Russet or Yukon Gold which were very light and fluffy.

I've always assumed that only certain varieties would grow here in Thailand hence the lack of varieties like Russets.

  5. I also had never heard of Unit 731 so I goggled them.

You're another one that's proved my point but you don't seem to realise it. Most of the Thais who are wearing Nazi regalia and clothing have never heard of Hitler in the same way that you had never heard of Unit 731 until you Googled it. They know as little about Hitler as you know about Unit 731.

Never mind Unit 731, how many people in the West even get educated about the Cambodia Killing Fields, for example.

Therefore, "The Western Education System Is A Joke!" rolleyes.gif

Are you assuming that peoples' understanding is only learned in school? Do people in Thailand ever read books, watch documentaries, educational television, watch movies, etc? There's just no excuse for being so ignorant of modern history, especially the atrocities.

  6. OP, Fortuner with a spare wheel cover?

You can barely see the spare wheel.

It was an SUV with a spare tire on the back. I could be wrong about it being a Fortuner.

  7. I wish I could have got a picture of this thing. I've seen kids wearing nazi t-shirts, stickers on scooters and the "cute" little statuettes of Adolf. But, this image on the truck was a 36" diameter tribute to the Fuhrer on the back of a car driving around the city for all of Chiang Mai's visitors to see. Certainly one of the most glaring examples of this terrible fad that I've seen.

  8. Was driving in the city today and spotted a Fortuner and on the spare tire cover was Hitler's mug with a swastika in the background.

What are these people thinking? Tourists seeing that shot must be in utter disbelief.

  9. If you know someone in the US it really helps. I used to have numerous items sent to my Dad's house where would take the items out of the packaging and remove the invoices and pack everything on one box.

A Thai friend told me to ship the items via USPS (US Postal Service) because the items would then be delivered via the Thai post and would be less likely to incur duty. He said Fedex, UPS, DHL, etc. are far more likely to get hit. I've had about 20 packages delivered to CM from the US and only two were flagged for duty.

  10. Thanks to all for the great info.Has anyone joined the TGA? There is link on their homepage saying "Check and Print Handicap Index Certificate" but you must have a UserID and PW to get in. This looks like the place where competitive players would keep their country wide index.

  11. Does anyone know how one posts their score and score cards to maintain a handicap? I am a member at Mae Jo but I don't see any place to post my score or deposit my score card. I called the club today and no one knows (unbelievably) what I am asking for.
